I have followed these instructions found in several places on the internet https://www.interfacett.com/blogs/repeating-freezing-column-headers-ssrs-tables/
to get the headers to repeat on every page and it doesn't work. Are there any other suggestions for getting this to work?
First Page:
and the next page:
Try setting the next static column over (usually right below the first column in the advanced mode list) to repeat on next page as well. Sometimes this works. Otherwise, you might want to try generating a new table and it might work with the new one. SSRS is finicky with this for whatever reason.

I have folders labeled by their keyfield, so 1, 2, ... 999, 1000. located in currentproject.path\RecordFiles\KeyFieldHere so like currentproject.path\RecordFiles\917.
I want to run a query that will count how many files are in each folder. I know this can be done with the DIR function through visual basic, but I can't seem to run it through a SQL query.
I've tried using this function in a SQL equation, so Expr1: [FlrFileCount("Y:\Education\Databases\RecordFiles\")] as one of the fields just to see if it can work, but it prompts me for a value and then returns nothing.
EDIT: I tried an approach using the FlrFileCount function in a continuous form, and it does work, BUT... I get an error after every single line. I have a field in a continuous form of =FlrFileCount([currentproject].[path] & "\recordfiles\" & [ID]), but when I run the form I get an error "Error 76, Error source: FlrFileCount, Error description: Path not found." Which is crazy because IT WORKS, it properly lists the number of files in the folder for each record.
I just need to get this functionality over into a SQL query so I can pull that data for mail merges.
I currently have something similar in a form. The form has an onload property to run a module (Link here) to create a list of all the files in the relevant folder to that record, and then I have another field that just counts the number of entries in the list. However a list can't be a value in a SQL query, so I don't think that code will help.
Thanks to Tim Williams, the answer was to put
=FlrFileCount(Currentproject.Path & "\recordfiles\" & [ID])
It seems the [currentproject].[path] part was where the error was. What's confusing is that in other places, MS Access adds the extra [] around currentproject and path, and I don't know why.
Thank you so much for your help! Now to the tricky part: Implementing a proper naming scheme by program ID across a sharepoint so that the relevant folder can be opened consistently even when program names change.
TL;DR:
Is there a way to embed a console inside a form, so it becomes a part of it?
Scenario:
I am writing a chat-application with client, server and database using Windows Forms in VB.NET. The server should log all communication it has with clients in a textbox.
The Problem:
So far that would not be a problem - If there wasn't a maxlength for strings! I expect this server to almost never stop (Okay, there is always some point where it does.. but lets ignore that). So if i go for Textbox1.Text &= vbnewline & "Something" it will some day reach this length and run into an exception each time something is about to be logged. I also don't want to just remove the first characters of the string.
My Idea for a solution:
My idea for a work around: Use a console instead of a simple textbox and embed it into the form, so it becomes a part of it. Is there a simple way to do that? By simple I mean that I should have to write thousands of lines of code to achieve that goal.
I am open minded for different ideas and ways to do so as well.
Why not just log your chat to file (you could create a file per day)?
Dim filename = String.Format("C:\Temp\{0:yyyy-MM-dd}-log.txt", DateTime.Now)
My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(filename, "line of text", True)
Then to display it - use a ListBox and append each new line to the end of the listbox? Each time you append, you could check how many items are in the listbox and remove the first 100 if you are over 1000 as an example.
Visual Basic .net automatically inserts a "Next" statement when you enter a "For" statement; e.g., if I type:
For i as integer = 1 to 10
a Next will automatically be inserted, so that the code looks like:
For i as integer = 1 to 10
Next
It is optional to put the counter variable ("i" in the above) in the Next statement, so that it would read:
Next i
I'd really like to make this the default, as it really helps when one has nested For statements. I can't find anything in the Visual Studio settings to do this; maybe it's partly buried somewhere in Intellisense. I thought perhaps someone out there has already figured this out.
You will want to modify the .snippet file associated with the pattern. For the one you are looking for it is, by default:
VisualStudioInstallDirectory\VB\Snippets\1033\common code patterns\conditionals and loops\ForEachNext.snippet
You can also track down the exact location by looking in
Tools > Code Snippets Manager..., select Visual Basic for the language and browse to Code Patterns - If, For Each, Try Catch, Property, etc - the file location will be listed there.
I have a weird bug.
The below report is built from from a complex Excel Macro and below is a single page from the report output. The page is built from a range so the report is all in tables which is fine.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-A_d72xVQXtfmVQUFFHdmVvUUdldUpLT1dmRnk4bXowaDNtUWt0eE5yeE1mZHRKNEpyck0&usp=sharing
The problem I am having is that the table Excel has put into this particular page (and about 1-2 others), is that the "show/hide formatting marks" button (e.g. the backwards P at the top of word) also show and hides the table and anything in the table.
I can expand on this as much as needed and have provided a download link as the only way to really show it is for it to be seen by turning the formatting marks on and off. I have removed text on that sheet as some of it is sensitive.
Excel code being used to copy and paste is below. This code works fine for the other 100-200 pages.
Sheets(curr_sheet).Range(sp(0), sp(1)).Copy
oDoc.ActiveWindow.Selection.Paste
any ideas?
I have found the answer thanks to #Tim Williams pointing me in the right direction.
It was because of the hidden text flag being set to true, I do not know how it got set to true as I can not find any reason for it to be.
Anyway if anyone else is looking this sloved my problem
oDoc.ActiveWindow.Selection.WholeStory'select everything
oDoc.ActiveWindow.Selection.Font.Hidden = False'Turn hidden off for whole document
I have a image URL contained in my sql database.
I create a bookmark for that column in the word document (this works fine).
Now I want to use the image URL that is passed from the database to insert an image.
I have tried hyperlink (does not work and does not display image).
I have tried Quick Parts - IncludePicture (does not work).
I have been Googleing and have not found anything that works.
Ok let me simplify this.
I want to insert a image using an URL.
You can do this in alot of different ways I know.
For instance using Quick Parts and the selecting IncludePicture you would the past the URL of the picture and BAM image inserted.
Now I want to do exactly that with one exception. The URL is a microsoft word bookmark that I get from my database.
For some reason this does not want to work. I have also checked the bookmark data and it is correct and yes it is a valid URL because if I copy and paste it from the database in the way I described above it works.
So is there any other way to do this?
To be honest I still don't know where is exactly your problem. I assumed that you have knowledge and code to take both bookmark name and url from your database using VBA. If so, there would be quite simple code which would allow you to load picture from web to bookmark in your word document.
Below is the code I have tested with half of success. If I add any picture it will work fine. But will not work with url of active google map. I have no idea what you you mean with 'static google map' (in comment), you didn't provide any example therefore you need to make your own test.
Before you run this for test be sure you have two bookmarks in your active document: bookmark_logo and bookmark_poland. Hope this will help a bit.
Sub Insert_picture_To_Bookmark()
Dim mapURL As String
Dim soLOGO As String
soLOGO = "http://cdn.sstatic.net/stackoverflow/img/apple-touch-icon.png"
ActiveDocument.Bookmarks("bookmark_logo"). _
Range.InlineShapes.AddPicture _
soLOGO, True, True
mapURL = "https://maps.google.pl/maps?q=poland&hl=pl&sll=50.046766,20.004863&sspn=0.22047,0.617294&t=h&hnear=Polska&z=6"
ActiveDocument.Bookmarks("bookmark_poland"). _
Range.InlineShapes.AddPicture _
mapURL, True, True
End Sub
