A number of times now the auto generated Swift.h file that's required to use swift code in objective-c is not being found.
I've removed and reinstalled Xcode. Made sure all the correct boxes for it to be generated are checked and that I'm using #objc on Swift classes.
Sometimes it works fine but then there are significant periods where for an unknown reason its no longer able to find that file.
The app does build successfully, but the editor after building claims the file is missing.
The project this is being used in has multiple targets but I've made sure that the Swift.h file is using the same name in all targets.
At this point it seems there is no way to consistently have the file be available for auto completion purposes.
Any suggestions on what else to try would be appreciated as I'm at a loss.
After seeing this issue occur randomly a number of times I discovered that I needed to build all the targets for this app. Doing that meant that the -Swift.h file that was missing was now available.
I had one target that I wasn't building as that app which was part of the project wasn't being actively worked on, but building that was the solution to the problem.

I deleted pods folder and Podfile.lock, and reinstalled Podfile but didn't solved. What should I do? (I opened the workspace file.)

there is C style #include ... and Objective-C style #import ...
both work almost the same..
where #import reads the header but does not include again if done once. As this can and does fail sometime (usually because mixing C,C++,Objc,Objc++ in different dialects) we often use #define rules to make sure the enclosed code is read once for sure and not again, which in turn works also when code is included and declared with #include. It would be included but not compiled twice.

Now why does it matter?
It might happen that a #define rule enclosing the header files content hides the header from the viewpoint of other classes.. This can & does happen often when classes are not properly written with the end developers structure in mind. It might work on the workbench of the developer but not for everyone else implementing it.
Your error clearly tells "File not found .."
So first see what both import/include rules differentiate in general
#import <LibFrameworkName/LibFrameworkName.h>
means you have to link the framework or library, even if you developed one on your own in that project. The rule is relative to your project, LibFrameworkName is a Framework/Lib. Where if found somewhere #include <LibFrameworkName/LibFrameworkName.h> is not correct unless you want to c-style include this framework header into your binarys header, 2) tells you a bit about why..
#import "LibFrameworkName/LibFrameworkName.h"
means you have to copy/offer this header into your project with a subfolder with name LibFrameworkName. Once somewhere declared properly Xcode might find and apply the headers even if declared with the wrong rule later on in that specific class, you should also get a warning in the IDE then. In case of AFNetworking you dont want to copy System SDK Frameworks into your project, also not into third party frameworks unless you know what you do. This rule is relative to the files place in project structure, meaning here it would try to look out for some folder with name LibFrameworkName below the file that carries this rule.
what it says: because the Framework is not linked, the compiler tries to find it with the given name ignoring < & > so as if it where like 2) a file with that folder name, then will not find it and throws the error or warning.
To force the precompiler to parse thru some specific folders we use sometime the header search path to explicit tell where to find it. Widely used and mostly troublesome because it also hides wrongly defined rules to the developer as Xcode skips the still existing wrong import rules in code assuming it knows this headers already. Or it throws warnings while everything is actually fine. Other developers experience trouble then, the file structure and header list don't match at all. So keep in mind, when you can avoid making use of header search path lists, go for it. It also will and should not fix your issue.
'<AFNetworking/AFNetworking.h>' File not found means a Framework module is not known to your project. This header is part of a Framework.
Solution: You have to go to your Projects Settings and scroll down to Frameworks and Libraries, hit [+] below this list. It should open the dialog presenting all SDK from your choosen Project Target and all known Pods or known frameworks of your own project when you developed some. Search for the Framework or Lib by name, click it, hit "Add".. done..
From there - there are some options to get used to it..
Because Linking does not mean Copying into your Resources at compile time by default. Usually Xcode knows it does not have to copy System SDK into a projects Framework Folder, all macUsers have those Frameworks preinstalled on their system of course in the right version.. Linking against some specific folder like ${SOMEFLAGWHEREEVERTHISPOINTSTO}/AFNetworking/AFNetworking.framework/Headers is actually wrong unless someone wanted to overrule the systems framework header and maybe also binary.
So AFNetworking should not appear under Build Phases > Copy Bundle Ressources list but after the process above is done it will appear under Link Binary with Libraries, it might also be placed in Dependencies when Xcode needs to know for some Library/Framework it must have this to compile. Last mentioned option is because you could have a framework that adapts at runtime when some framework is missing or not available. So this Entry helps Xcode to figure out in which sorting it has to compile your stuff.
finding ${PODS_CONFIGURATION_BUILD_DIR}/AFNetworking/AFNetworking.framework/Headers in Header Search Paths there must be something wrong i guess.. because the framework is very likely not copied into the Pods folder. It should be relative to your SDKs folder that come with Xcode. The Linking process told above should fix that and you can erase that entry from your header search path then.
I am using Xcode 4.6.2 and i believe i am facing circular import issue in my project which i am unable to troubleshoot. Due to which i am not able to access few methods from another class using the class method. See my earlier question here.
Although i am using #class instead of #import in my header files, still i am unable to fine where exactly the problem is. Members of the StackOverflow have suggested me to use Xcode's built in functionality found under Product > Generate Output > Preprocessed File.
I have used this functionality and it generated a file that is too long to follow and i don't know what to do with it.
I have tried searching how to use it to troubleshoot the issue but couldn't find much help. Can anyone help me point out how to use "Preprocessed File" to troubleshoot my issue. Thanks!
I also went through your earlier question you have mentioned inside the question. You have said that you are using #class instead of #import in your header files, the methods that you are trying to access are declared in the header files and there are no typos of any kind.
In such cases, usually no body points this issue but i am going to do it anyway because i have faced such issues many times. You have probably created many copies of your project to work on each functionality and also keeping a working project.
When you do this, sometimes Xcode is still using the older copies of few files. That means it is still using the older copy of the TheFeedStore.h when the methods you are trying to access were not declared by you.
How to solve this problem is very simple. Go to the file from which you are trying to access the methods and the files in which these methods are declared.
In the Utilities section on the right hand side, check the location and full path under "Identity and Type" area.
First check the names of the project, if it is different from the project name that you are working on, that means Xcode is still pulling the old copies of the files from the previous revision of your project. See the blue arrows where the project name is 13SampleMoreRequests in my case.
If this name is same as your project name, then my answer does not solve your problem. If its different, you should use the new copies of the file by browsing the new location using the sign that is pointed out by red arrow.
Once you browse and use the new files, your problem will be solved and you will be able to access the methods. If you still can't, copy these files, delete from the project and then add them again and you won't face this problem.

I just banged my head for a while and figured out a solution, but I want to make sure that I'm doing things right and that I actually know what I'm doing (I'm pretty sure I never know what I'm doing :)
I have two projects that I've been working on, each offering different functionality. I want one project (A) to be able to use the functionality of the other (B). I tried going about it by creating a workspace and putting both projects into it, but I couldn't "see" project B's files from project A (autocomplete after #import did work, but it gave a compiler error). So I tried adding it as a "sub-project" and found the same. I figured this would be easy, but guess not.
What I ended up doing was creating a new project (C) as a "Cocoa Touch Static Library" project, and put my files from Project B into it. I built it.
I then went back to project A and added project C into it as a sub-project.
Then I added the path on the filesystem of project C into the User Header Search Paths setting under Build Settings of project A.
Then I added the .a file from Project C into the Link Binary with Libraries section of Project A.
Then it worked.
But honestly I have no idea what the meaning of a static library is.
Is all this necessary? Or is there an easier way to just integrate two projects (without me having to copy the files from one project to another)?

You were on the right track with workspaces. What I do is have three projects in the workspace. One with no targets just to hold the generic classes. A second for my iOS target Project. And a third for mac. Keep the original files in the one with no target, then drag the files to the other two projects that creates references, so when you edit one it changes all three.
An iPad project I have been working on has become bloated with a huge number of files. The application is a prototype and we are considering ways to prevent this when we rewrite it.
One of the members of our team suggests dividing all of the components into separate Xcode projects which will be included in a master Xcode project.
Is this a good idea? What are the reasons, if any, to avoid dividing features/components/controls into separate Xcode projects?
You can add a subsidiary project file to a master project file in Xcode. Just choose "Add File" and add it. When Xcode builds the master it will build the subsidiary as well if needed.
I use a similar system. I often break a project into sub projects just so I can focus on and enforce encapsulation. I write the data model first, then add the app delegate, then specific UI elements. I add each project to the next in turn. This also allows me to go back and change things without as much risk of breaking.
Really, a properly designed objective-c app should be easy to decompose into multiple project. Ideally, all the components are so encapsulate that they don't need any others save the data model.
We have put some of the code in its own project, building a framework which we link against at some of the other projects. It's sometimes annoying that you won't see the implementation files of the framework code right away in another project (by cmd+clicking or cmd+shift+D, or whatever you do normally to navigate). Xcode will only show you the header, you'll have to open the other project and find your file there manually. Not a big deal, but if you look up the code often, it will bother you.
A real problem is that you change the scope of some operations. Stuff like "Find in project" will work on a different file set, which might not be what you want sometimes (trying to find where this method is called / key is used in your whole code, or something); well, there remains Finder / find, so it might be okay. Refactoring is not - all the renaming stuff just breaks, as it will change only the code of the current project, but not of projects referencing this one. If you change interfaces often, better avoid splitting up the project.
A good thing is that you will get less conflicts on your .xcodeproj files (if stored in a shared repository) as someone removing a file from project X won't create a conflict with someone else adding a target on project Y, which where previously the same .xcodeproj (not exactly sure this is a conflict case, but there definitely are some).
Now with Xcode4 you can create a workspace and add all your projects there. Only for documentation purpose :)
To view and modify subproject implementation files, you should add the sub projects directly into the main project.
1 step - Drag and drop the .xcode project files to main project.
2 step - Go to main project TARGETS - > Build Phases. Add subproject target in Target Dependencies. You can also add binary files in Link Binary With Libraries.
3 step - Add subproject source path to main projects header search path.
Go to main project - > Build Settings - > Header Search Paths (e.g $(SRCROOT)/../CoconutKit-master/CoconutKit/Sources )
An Xcode project can have any number of build targets within it, and you can arbitrarily group source files into folders. What makes you think that multiple projects are necessary?
I want to remove AssemblyInfo.cpp, because of some metadata errors that sometimes come up.
Is AssemblyInfo.cpp useful for anything? Or can it be removed without any problem?
I've discovered one distinction for this file: it has to do with values reported under calls to Assembly.GetReferencedAssemblies. I was working on tracking version numbers of our binaries from our SVN repository by embedding the revision numbers into them. Initially I too was updating AssemblyInfo.cpp and found nothing reported in the file property details tab for the binary. It seemed this file did nothing for me in terms of updating those details, which was not the case with similar updates to a csproj's AssemblyInfo.cs. Why the difference right?
Now in one such csproj we happen to reference a vcxproj and that csproj dumps to a log the versions of all its referenced assemblies using the .NET Assembly.GetReferencedAssemblies method. What I discovered was that the number that was being reported in that log was not the vcxproj's version as given by the VS_VERSIONINFO resource I added (which does get the version details into the file properties details tab). Instead the number reported was actually matching that defined in the AssemblyInfo.cpp.
So for vcxproj files it looks like VS_VERSIONINFO is capable of updating the contents you find under the file properties details tab but AssemblyInfo.cpp is capable of exposing the version to GetReferencedAssemblies. In C# these two areas of reporting seem to be unified. Maybe there's a way to direct AssemblyInfo.cpp to propagate into the file details in some fashion, but what I'm going to wind up doing is duplicating the build info to both locations in a prebuild step. Maybe someone can find a better approach.
So far I never had the AssemblyInfo.cpp in my managed c++ dlls, so I don't think it is necessary.
(I just added the file to have version information for my c++ dlls).
Why not just fix the errors? On that note, what errors are you getting?
This file provides information such as a version number which is definitely needed in order to use the assembly you have built.
