Find all tables in database By primaryKey - sql

I'm searching for a query that can retrieve all the tables by the specified key/keys name on a specific database.
Something like this:
SELECT table_name
FROM information_Schema.columns
WHERE column_name='ID_UNICO'
AND Constraint_Type = 'PRIMARY KEY'
I've been searching and the best I could find was:
SELECT Col.Column_Name from

this retrieves the PK's of a specific table, I want to find table_name BY PK name.

also found this but this gives me the first column of the table, which doesn't ensure me that it it the PK.
Couldn't find any duplicate either.

You can use this query. Replace 'YOUR_COLUMN_NAME' with your primary key column name.

Here you go, join TABLE_CONSTRAINTS to CONSTRAINT_COLUMN_USAGE to tie the constraint name to the column then return your TABLE_NAME:

I need to update the columns of certain tables with maxlength of 256, so is there any easy way for finding the sql tables?

Image you want to update all columns from NVARCHAR(128) to NVARCHAR(256). You can use the following script:

Note, that if the column is part of index, it should be dropped first. Then, change the type and re-create the index.
Also, note that the max_length is the length in bytes. So, for VARCHAR(128) its 128, but for NVARCHAR it is doubled.
You can use INFORMATION_SCHEMA views to accomplish this

If you only want to know the table to update

but, if you also want to know which column has a length of 256 :

How to drop all foreign keys from a SQL Server database?

I want to drop the all foreign keys that have the following conditions.

There is a table named INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS which stores all tables constraints. constraint type of FOREIGN KEY is also keeps in that table. So by filtering of this type you can reach to all foreign keys.

Similar to what Siyavash suggested, but I prefer a bit more control over the process..
If you use this query:

Run it; it generates a list of drop commands for every FK in the DB. You can then either pick out the ones you want to execute or you can add more clauses the the WHERE to restrict further
As with all "SQL that writes SQL" you run it by copying the results out of the grid, pasting into a new window in SSMS and running them (F5)
Hence, your query, with the CONCAT that writes the drop command:

Find all columns of a certain type in all tables in a SQL Server database

How can I find all columns of a certain type (for example NTEXT) in all tables in a SQL Server database?

You can use the system view INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS. The data_type column has what you're looking for.

sql select column names where the column is a key

using this query,

What is the equivalent of 'describe table' in SQL Server?

I have a SQL Server database and I want to know what columns and types it has. I'd prefer to do this through a query rather than using a GUI like Enterprise Manager. Is there a way to do this?
You can use the sp_columns stored procedure:
exec sp_columns MyTable
There are a few methods to get metadata about a table:
EXEC sp_help tablename
Will return several result sets, describing the table, it's columns and constraints.
The INFORMATION_SCHEMA views will give you the information you want, though unfortunately you have to query the views and join them manually.
Just in case you don't want to use stored proc, here's a simple query version
select *
from information_schema.columns
where table_name = 'aspnet_Membership'
order by ordinal_position
You can use following: sp_help tablename
Example: sp_help Customer
OR Use Shortcut Keys
Select the desired table and press ALT+F1.
Example: Customer Press ALT+F1.
Use this Query
Select * From INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS Where TABLE_NAME = 'TABLENAME'
In addition to the ways shown in other answers, you can use
SELECT TOP 0 * FROM table_name
This will give you the name of each column with no results in them, and completes almost instantly with minimal overhead.
Please use the following sql query; this worked for my case.

The SQL Server equivalent to Oracle's describe command is the stored proc sp_help
The describe command gives you the information about the column names, types, length, etc.
In SQL Server, let's say you want to describe a table 'mytable' in schema 'myschema' in the database 'mydb', you can do following:

To execute the procedure type:

If you want to get a description an object of the current database (and schema) simple type:
EXEC sp_desc 'YourTable';
As sp_desc is a system marked procedure, you can even leave the exec command, too (not recommended anyway):
sp_desc 'YourTable';
You can use the sp_help 'TableName'
try it:
EXEC [ServerName].[DatabaseName].dbo.sp_columns 'TableName'
and you can get some table structure information, such as:
TABLE_QUALIFIER, TABLE_OWNER, TABLE_NAME, COLUMN_NAME, DATA_TYPE, TYPE_NAME...
In addition to above questions, if we have table in DB like db_name.dbo.table_name, we may use following steps
Connect with DB
USE db_name;
Use EXEC sp_help and don't forget to put table name as 'dbo.tablename' if you have dbo as schema.
exec sp_help 'dbo.table_name'

I tried this and it's working for me
exec sp_help TABLE_NAME
First connect to your DB,
use DB_name
Then
exec sp_help 'Production.Et_Issue'
here 'production' is the schema name. If you dont have a schema,
you may simply write sp_help table_name
The problem with those answers is that you're missing the key info.
While this is a bit messy this is a quick version I came up with to make sure it contains the same info the MySQL Describe displays.

If you are using FirstResponderKit from Brent Ozar team, you can run this query also:
exec sp_blitzindex #tablename='MyTable'
It will return all information about table:
indexes with their usage statistics(reads, writes, locks, etc), space
used and other
missing indexes
columns
foreign keys
statistics contents
Of course it's not a system and not so universal stp like sp_help or sp_columns, but it returns all possible information about your table and I think it's worth creating it at your environment and mentioning it here.
