I am trying to check whether a checkbox is selected. My checkbox is styled using input and span, not using the checkbox tag. As it's not a default checkbox I can't use methods such as isSelected or isChecked to check its state. I was then trying to check if any class belongs to a state but not the other. However, the only difference I've found so far is that when the element is selected an ::after appears but not sure how to go about checking this?
I found a tutorial with a similar issue, but don't know much about Javascript and not sure how to adapt it to my case.
https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-locate-After-and-Before-css-tag-in-selenium-webdriver
Before clicked
After clicked
That's what is being used and as per #pguardiario answer
System.out.println(js.executeScript("return window.getComputedStyle(document.querySelector('.custom-checkmark'), ':after').getPropertyValue('content')"));
But both when it's selected or not it returns the same output (empty string)
UPDATE
Found the difference between the selected and unselected states. The .custom-checkmark:after style has display-none when the checkbox is not selected.
Not sure still how to use this info as that's what I have at moment and they return display none both before and after the checkbox is clicked.
#Test
public void testingCheckbox() {
JavascriptExecutor js = (JavascriptExecutor) wd;
System.out.println(js.executeScript("return window.getComputedStyle(document.querySelector('.custom-checkmark'), ':after').getPropertyValue('display')"));
lp.clickCheckBox();
System.out.println(js.executeScript("return window.getComputedStyle(document.querySelector('.custom-checkmark'), ':after').getPropertyValue('display')"));
}
NEW FINDING
It seems there's actually 'two checkboxes'. One with the span tag and the other one with the span. They appear together when unselecting some attributes.
Thanks for the help.
I can't test it but it should look something like this:
driver.executeScript('return window.getComputedStyle(document.querySelector(".custom-checkmark"), ":after").getPropertyValue("content")')
Sorry about the long line btw, Java doesn't have heredocs which makes this painful :(
Try use JavascriptExecutor, import them :
import org.openqa.selenium.JavascriptExecutor;
Try this :
WebElement chk = driver.findElement(By.xpath("//*[#class='custom-checkmark' and ./preceding-sibling::*[#id='terms_checkbox']]"));//or you have
String getPro;
getPro = ((JavascriptExecutor)driver).executeScript("return window.getComputedStyle(arguments[0], ':after').getPropertyValue('background-color');",chk).toString();
System.out.println(getPro);
chk.click();
Thread.sleep(1000);
getPro = ((JavascriptExecutor)driver).executeScript("return window.getComputedStyle(arguments[0], ':after').getPropertyValue('background-color');",chk).toString();
System.out.println(getPro);
Not sure with .getPropertyValue('background-color'), but this may be a clue.
Try the below CSS selectors for identifying that
span.custom-checkmark:after
And also please see the below link for more details
Extracting content in :after using XPath
Got the code to work. Targeting the input tag instead of span solved the problem. I had a mistake on my code when tried that first time so that's why though the isSelected field wasn't working and moved on to target the span tag instead which opened this thread here. Sorry about that and thanks for everybody's help.
This was just a random script I made to complete a quiz but I can't seem to access the final element. I want to select the element, click the element and then send some text to the element.
I have tried to access the input box by class name, CssSelector and by XPath.
The website is https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test
Here are the XPaths I have tried:
//*[contains(#class, 'email-wrapper')]
//div[contains(#placeholder, 'your#email.com')]
//div[#class="row request-info-wrapper"]
//*[#id='request - email']"
Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm new to the framework and would very much like to know what I'm not understanding about locators! Thank you!
EDIT:
I can't seem to target this element or any of its children:
You have selected wrong tag DIV.Try this following Xpath. All should work.
"//input[#id='request-email']"
Or
"//input[#name='email']"
Or
"//input[#placeholder='your#email.com']"
Your field has a (presently) unique ID of "request-email".
Thus you can simply use, as a CSS selector,
('#request-email')
Then, in you can simply tell Selenium to hit ENTER to save your data. Let me know if you need help doing that.
I am clicking with the help of following lione oc code->
actions.moveToElement(objDriver.findElement(By.id("id_popcode")),coordinates.getX(),coordinates1.getY()-1).doubleClick().build().perform();
Basically i double click at a position(x,y) in our application. Individually we cannot click that particular element bcoz it has to be clicked at particular (x,y) itself. So i want to get the properties of that clicked element(which i click using actions command which i mentioned above) liked id, classname. Can some one help me with this...kinda stuck here..........
edit:
try execute.elementFromPoint() with JavascriptExecutor to get element by coordinates
JavascriptExecutor js = (JavascriptExecutor)driver;
WebElement theElement = (WebElement)js.executeScript("return document.elementFromPoint(arguments[0], arguments[1])", coordinates.getX(), coordinates1.getY()-1);
System.out.println(theElement.getAttribute("tagName"));
System.out.println(theElement.getAttribute("class"));
old:
you are using negative value in getY()-1 which mean coordinates above the element, it maybe the parent or preceding-sibling of element try to select it using xpath
WebElement popcodeBefore = objDriver.findElement(By.xpath("//*[#id='id_popcode']/parent::*"));
// Or
// WebElement popcodeBefore = objDriver.findElement(By.xpath("//*[#id='id_popcode']/preceding-sibling::*"));
System.out.println(popcodeBefore.getAttribute("class"));
actions.moveToElement(popcodeBefore).doubleClick().build().perform();
If you have any specific text at that particular coordinates make use of it. I too had the same issue like this where I need to double click on a cell which had text 0.00%. I have done hovering action first using the text and then performed the double-click
Ignore the syntax issues since I am working on the protractor these days
browser.driver.actions().mouseMove(driver.findElement(by.xpath("//*[text()='00')]").build().perform();
and then perform the click
Still, you have issues, check if you have any attribute like ng-click which can be helpful to get the coordinates for that particular location. please always share the HTML code so that It may help us to check more deeply
I am doing project on different crawlers and trying to mimic user actions. As part of it, I am crawling this url. Here there is a zip code box and I am trying to click on it and extract text from the drop down which will appear after that. I wrote the below code but not sure why it is not working at all. Can anyone please help? I did exhaustive search to find root cause but got nothing. Any suggestions would be much much appreciated.
driver.getUrl(aboveUrl);
WebElement inputBox = driver.findElement(By.id("pincodeInputId"));
inputBox.click();
System.out.println(driver.findElement(By.className("_3mWImx")).getText());
-- This gives null;
Awaiting help !
The reason is the node that you picked is the parent node of the element that has the text
You should use
System.out.println(driver.findElement(By.css("_3mWImx span")).getText());
And that would work. Also note that there are multiple element with the class _3mWImx, so this will only give you the first one. If you are interested in all of them, then you should be using driver.findElements and looping through the result
Actually there are more than one values in the drop down if you want to print all you have to used findElements(). Use this code it will give you desired result :
WebDriver driver=new FirefoxDriver( );
driver.manage().window().maximize();
driver.get("https://www.flipkart.com/moto-e4-plus-fine-gold-32-gb/p/itmevqynuz4fwxca");
WebElement inputBox = driver.findElement(By.id("pincodeInputId"));
driver.manage().timeouts().implicitlyWait(10, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
inputBox.click();
List<WebElement> elements=driver.findElements(By.className("_3mWImx"));
for(WebElement ele:elements)
{
System.out.println(ele.getText()); //It will print innertext of each element
}

I'm trying to detect the different drop downs on this page (depicted by the filters by the text boxes). The problem i'm having is that it seems that the filters all have the same ids. I can get the webdriver to find the initial filter button but not target the options in the drop down.
Note the filters I'm talking about are the ones from the funnel buttons. For example contains, isEqual, between etc *
This is wrong but an example
it('Should filter grid to -contain Civic', function() {
browser.element(by.id('ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_RadGrid1_ctl00_ctl02_ctl03_FilterTextBox_Model')).sendKeys("civic");
browser.element(by.id('ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$RadGrid1$ctl00$ctl02$ctl03$FilterTextBox_Model')).click();
browser.element(by.xpath("//*[contains(text(), 'Contains')]")).click();
})
NOTE The answer that was being looked for is at the bottom of this answer after the word "EDIT". The rest of this answer is retained because it is still useful.
It's a challenge to test webpages that dynamically generate ids and other attributes. Sometimes you just have to figure out how to navigate the stable attributes with an xpath. Here's an xpath that finds all four dropdowns:
//tr[#class='rgFilterRow']//input
To differentiate between each one, you can do this:
(//tr[#class='rgFilterRow']//input)[1] // Brand Name
(//tr[#class='rgFilterRow']//input)[2] // Classification
(//tr[#class='rgFilterRow']//input)[3] // Transmission
(//tr[#class='rgFilterRow']//input)[4] // Fuel
Using numbers to specify elements in an xpath isn't really desirable (it will behave incorrectly if the order of columns in the table changes), but it's probably the best you can do in this case because of all the dynamic ids and general lack of reliable identifying attributes.
EDIT
I misunderstood what you were trying to get because I didn't look at the image that you linked to. Once you've opened up that menu, you should be able to use an xpath to get whichever option you want by the text. For example, if you want the "Contains" option:
//a[#class='rmLink']//span[text()='Contains']
This page is highly dynamic. You had better brush up on your XPath, as nothing else will be able to help you. You can use this: http://www.zvon.org/xxl/XPathTutorial/General/examples.html .
Here is a simple example of how to access the Brand Name "pulldown". This is written in Groovy, which looks a lot like Java. If you know Java you should be able to get the idea from this:
WebElement brandName = driver.findElement(By.id("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_RadGrid1_ctl00_ctl02_ctl03_BrandNameCombo_Arrow"))
brandName.click() // to open the "pulldown"
List<WebElement> brandItems = driver.findElements(By.xpath("//ul[#class='rcbList']/li"))
brandItems.each {
if(it.text == 'BMW')
it.click()
}
Unfortunately, the above id is not very reliable. A much better strategy would be something like:
WebElement classification = driver.findElement(By.xpath("//table[#summary='combobox']//a[contains(#id, 'ClassificationCombo_Arrow')]"))
Selecting its items is done similarly.
classification.click() // to open the "pulldown"
List<WebElement> classificationItems = driver.findElements(By.xpath("//ul[#class='rcbList']/li"))
classificationItems.each {
if(it.text == 'Sedan')
it.click()
}
If you are not up to the task, you should be able to get help from your development colleagues on how to locate all the elements in this page.
