I am looking to move B to the above row. It can either be placed where the Null value is in Column B or another column can be created. The value of B is linked to value A through an ID. The ID for value B is always X + 2 (the values in the ID column are integers).
I can’t just move the value up because the table I am working with has thousands of rows. It must be linked to the ID’s.

You can use a conditional subselect for that

Some databases could have a problem so you can make
UPDATE Table_Name T1
SET Column_B = (Select

WHERE Column_B IS NULL
You could just do it with 2 updates statements
UPDATE Table
SET Column B = 'B'
WHERE ID = 'X'
UPDATE Table
SET Column B = NULL
WHERE ID = 'X+2'
If you need to do it in a select statement you could do it with a case statement too
SELECT ID,

CASE WHEN ID = X AND Column B = NULL THEN 'B'
ELSE Column B END
FROM Table

select id, case col2 when true then col1 from table
and it is showing an internal server error. I want to select the col1 from table when the corresponding col2 is true.
probably just a simple syntax error in your case statment.

I am constructing an SQL statement with some parameters. Finally, an SQL statement is created like
"select * from table where column1 = "xyz"".
But I also need the rows which are filtered with this statement. In this case they're rows which are not "xyz" valued in column1. More specifically, I am looking for something like INVERSE(select * from table where ...). Is it possible?
Edit: My bad, I know I can do it with != or operator. Here the case is, select statement may be more complex (with some ANDs and equal, greater operators). Let's assume a table has A,B,C and my SQL statement brings only A as result. But I need B and C while I only have the statement which brings A.
select * from table where column1 != 'xyz' or column1 is null;
If you want the other ones, do it like this:
select * from table where column1 <> "xyz"
column1 <> (differs from) "xyz"
To check if something is no equal you can use <> or even !=
SELECT *
FROM yourTable
WHERE <> 'xyz'
OR
SELECT *
FROM yourTable
WHERE != 'xyz'
Many database vendors support (see list) both versions of the syntax.
If you're retrieving both result sets at about the same time, and just want to process the xyz ones first, you could do:
select *,CASE WHEN column1 = "xyz" THEN 1 ELSE 0 END as xyz from table
order by CASE WHEN column1 = "xyz" THEN 1 ELSE 0 END desc
This will return all of the rows in one result set. Whilst xyz = 1, these were the rows with column1 = 'xyz'.

Is it possible to alias a column name and then use that in a CASE statement? For example,

I am trying to alias the column because actually my CASE statement would be generated programmatically, and I want the column that the case statement uses to be specified in the SQL instead of having to pass another parameter to the program.
This:
SELECT col1 as a,

...will not work. This will:
SELECT CASE WHEN a = 'test' THEN 'yes' END as value
FROM (SELECT col1 AS a

Why you wouldn't use:
SELECT t.col1 as a,
CASE WHEN t.col1 = 'test' THEN 'yes' END as value
FROM TABLE t;
...I don't know.
I think that MySql and MsSql won't allow this because they will try to find all columns in the CASE clause as columns of the tables in the WHERE clause.
I don't know what DBMS you are talking about, but I guess you could do something like this in any DBMS:

can be that the t.col1 is not an actual column in the table. For example, it can be a value from a XML column like

I use CTEs to help compose complicated SQL queries but not all RDBMS' support them. You can think of them as query scope views. Here is an example in t-sql on SQL server.

If you write only equal condition just:
Select Case columns1 When 0 then 'Value1'
when 1 then 'Value2' else 'Unknown' End
If you want to write greater , Less then or equal you must do like this:

ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'a' in 'field list'
In MySql, alice name may not work, therefore put the original column name in the CASE statement

Sometimes above query also may return error, I don`t know why (I faced this problem in my two different development machine). Therefore put the CASE statement into the "(...)" as below:

I think you're looking at a Stored Procedure with an If statement. CASE will work, but it can't change the number of columns returned.
