I'm having some trouble getting multiple redirect rules working in an .htaccess file without it causing a redirect chain:
First I want to force HTTPS
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301]
Then I want to ensure a trailing slash is applied
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(/$|\.)
RewriteRule (.*) %{REQUEST_URI}/ [R=301]
However, I want to do these both as ONE redirect. So if a request comes in with:
http://example.com/page
in ONE 301 redirect it should give
https://example.com/page/
I'm using httpstatus.io to test the redirect chains. Many thanks

I have to following configuration in my .htaccess. The first rule puts https before the URL and the second puts www before the URL, if not set already.

These redirects work perfect for the homepage. However, if you call a subpage, these rules wont work.

domain.xy/contact -> http://domain.xy/contact (doesnt work)
The weird thing is, the favicon get redirected correctly. Example with the contact page, as seen on
this picture.
How can it be, that my configuration only works for the toplevel, not for any subpage?
I'd say your RewriteRule is wrong. It should be .* instead of ^:
# https redirect
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on

The problem was another rule in the .htaccess-File. Our hosting provider automatically generates a .htaccess suiting the Typo3 installation. I had to place my rewrite rule before the following lines:
# If the file/symlink/directory does not exist => Redirect to index.php.
# For httpd.conf, you need to prefix each '%{REQUEST_FILENAME}' with '%{DOCUMENT_ROOT}'.

RewriteRule ^.*$ %{ENV:CWD}index.php [QSA,L]
This rules, as far as i understand, redirects any request, which is not a file, directory or symlink back to the index.php. So in my case if i call domain.xy/contact, it redirects back to the index.php.
Because this rule has the [L] flag at the end, the .htaccess stops processing here. So i moved both my rules above this block and they get called before this block comes to action.
I have tried using some rewrite to change my /welcome.php page to http. it is located in the root directory, but what I have done has seemingly forced all pages on my site to http instead of just the one. Here is what I have tried:

As you can see I am also force removing WWW from all urls at the same time I am trying to force my one page (welcome.php) to be http. I believe the error is in this bit of code

However I am not sure how to syntactically correct my issue, any advice?
Try with below I've edited the part of your rule and made a check to exclude welcome.php.

I made the switch of my website from http to https. Now, I want to 301 redirect all http content to https.
I want to use this rule:

The issue is I also have another rule already in place which redirects all non-www pages to www ones.

You can use this single rule to add www and http->https in single rule:

This rule should be kept just below RewriteEngine line and make sure to clear your browser cache when testing this change.
I'm trying to add a single subdomain to an existing website. We've added the appropriate 'A' record. We want staging.example.com to display the contents from example.com/test/ (and remain staging.example.com).
The .htaccess file (written by someone else) redirects all non-https to https, and all non-www to www:

This is because you are directing BACK to HTTP with your WWW redirect. Change it to https:

I am trying to achieve something which is working 99%, but there is a tiny issue.
Let's say my live URL is https://www.example.com/sample-page/
I want all the following URL variations to redirect to the live URL with a 301 status.
http://example.com/sample-page/
http://www.example.com/sample-page/
https://example.com/sample-page/
All of the above should redirect to https://www.example.com/sample-page/
I managed to get this working by using the htaccess rule displayed below.

The problem with the above rule is this: http://example.com/sample-page/ does a double redirect.

As you can see, http redirects to https and then https non-www redirects to https www. I have been trying a few tweaks to this rule and reading up, but I am sure someone here would have a quicker and more robust solution?
You can use this single rule to redirect http -> https and add www and there is no need to hardcode host name in the rule:
