Is it possible to set up a Virtual Host for Apache in CentOS somewhere outside /var/www? (say /home/myuser/mywebsite)
I tried different alternatives but none worked.
This is the entry i added in my vhost file for testing:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName testfer
DocumentRoot /home/builder/testfer
<Directory "/home/builder/testfer">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
Require all granted
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>

I have lost my local vhost configuration for this app.
The index.php file is outside of the xampp folder because of reasons.
How do I configure my vhost so I can access this index via my-app.local?
I've already tried multiple things but it always just shows me the index of the xampp htdocs folder...
<VirtualHost my-app.local:80>
DocumentRoot "E:\MyApp\App"
ServerName my-app.local
<Directory "E:\MyApp\App>
Require all granted
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "D:\xampp\htdocs\backoffice\public"
ServerName dev.backoffice.local
ServerAlias 192.168.2.21
<Directory "D:\xampp\htdocs\backoffice\public">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI
AllowOverride All
Require all granted
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
I did have this working before, but honestly don't know how I did it...
I am trying to create virtual host with xampp but it seems my apache configuration can't read host I created.
Every single time when I'm going to moodle36.dev/moodle/install.php in my browser it's reading xampp/htdocs/moodle instead of moodle from vhosts
That's my htttpd-vhosts.conf
NameVirtualHost *80
...
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/vhosts/moodle36.devel"
ServerName moodle36.dev
ServerAlias www.moodle36.dev
<Directory "C:/xampp/vhosts/moodle36.devel">
AllowOverride All
Require all granted
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
That's httpd.conf
<Directory />
AllowOverride all
Allow from all
</Directory>
DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs"
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
Allow from all
</Directory>
<Directory "C:/xampp/htdocs">
...
</Directory/>
I uncomented
Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
and System32/drivers/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 moodle36.dev
I'm completly stuck and i would apreciatte any kind of help.
It might be because .dev is an existing top level domain.
Try .localhost or something that isn't in this list:

Centos 7.1 and apache 2.4 - We have installed a new drive in our server and want to move all of our sites to that drive (mounted as /data) and sites are located in /data/vhosts
When trying to access the site we are presented with the apache welcome screen. I can confirm that the vhost is loaded as trying changing the permissions of the dir above results in a forbidden access. There is also an index.php file located in /data/vhosts/test.mydomain.com/public_html
# IP has been changed for example:
<VirtualHost 91.91.91.91:80>
DocumentRoot "/data/vhosts/test.mydomain.com/public_html"
ServerName test.mydomain.com
<Directory /data/vhosts/test.mydomain.com>
Options All
AllowOverride All
order allow,deny
allow from all
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
UPDATE 1:
I have deleted the welcome.conf file in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ and I am not given a forbidden 403. It is important to note that this is a new drive and no permissions has been set on /data (or sub folders) for apache. I am not entirely sure if that makes a difference?
I have also made some slight alternations to the vhost conf file but no difference:
NameVirtualHost *:80
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "/data/vhosts/test.mydomain.com/public_html"
ServerName test.mydomain.com
<Directory "/data/vhosts/test.mydomain.com">
AllowOverride None
# Allow open access:
Require all granted
</Directory>
<Directory /data/vhosts/test.mydomain.com/public_html>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI
DirectoryIndex index.php
AllowOverride All
Require all granted
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>

</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot C:\wamp\wwww\sk\public

SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV "development"
<Directory "C:\wamp\wwww\sk\public">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
DirectoryIndex index.php
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
Require local
Allow from localhost ::1 127.0.0.1
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
Hosts file:
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 sk.localhost
When I try to access localhost or sk.localhost it gives me 403 error (Wamp is green and Online. Anyone can help please? I don`t know what am I doing wrong here. I tried several methods from Internet but with no luck. Any help would be much appreciated. Best regards, Bogdan.
PHPMyadmin is working.
This is probably because you are using 2 different versions of the access security syntax and Apache is getting confused.
Change your Virtual Host definitions as below to use just the Apache 2.4 syntax and not the Apache 2.2 ones.
Also you should create a VH for localhost as well, as when you implement Virtual Hosts, Apache ignores the definition of localhost in the httpd.conf file.
# Should be the first VHOST definition so that it is the default virtual host
# Also access rights should remain restricted to the local PC
# So that any random ip address attack will recieve an error code and not gain access
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www"
ServerName localhost
<Directory "c:/wamp/www">
AllowOverride All
Require local
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot C:\wamp\wwww\sk\public
ServerName sk.localhost
SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV "development"
<Directory "C:\wamp\wwww\sk\public">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
DirectoryIndex index.php
AllowOverride All
Require local
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot C:\wamp\wwww\sk\public
ServerName sk.localhost
SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV "development"
<Directory "C:\wamp\wwww\sk\public">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
DirectoryIndex index.php
AllowOverride All
Require local
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
The Require local tells Apache to only allow access to a VH domain if the client is on the PC running WampServer(Apache).
If you actually want to allow access from say another PC on your local network, you can add a line like this to the domain you want to access
Require local
Require ip 192.168.1
Or if you want to allow access from anwhere replace those lines with
Require all granted
WARNING Dont allow access to the universe unless you really know what you are doing.
PS The WAMPserver Online/Offline feature only controls access and does not mean APache is running or not. Also once you implement Virtual Hosts it no longer has any relevance and shoudl be set OFFLINE as access control is now held in each individual Virtual Host.
I have two subdomains on my VPS, i have registered the two subdomains in my DNS pointing to the same IP address.
the version installed is Server version: Apache/2.4.7 for Ubuntu 12.04.
I've enabled the sites with the a2ensite command and i have enable the module vhost_alias. restart and reloaded many times
stable.mydomain.com
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName stable.mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/stable/web
<Directory /var/www/stable/web>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes
AllowOverride All
order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
beta.mydomain.com
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName beta.mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/beta/web
<Directory /var/www/beta/web>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes
AllowOverride All
order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
my trouble is pointing my browser to any url always i get the same content and to add more confusion when i execute service apache2 reload in the two subdomains i get the content from beta.mydomain.com and when execute service apache2 restart in the two subdomains i get the content of stable.mydomain.com.
I have spent about 5 hours trying to fix this
update
event i try with the VirtualDocumentRoot
<Virtualhost *:80>
VirtualDocumentRoot "/var/www/%1/web"
ServerName stable.mydomain.com
ServerAlias *.mydomain.com
UseCanonicalName Off
<Directory "/var/www/*">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
</Virtualhost>
with the same behavior explained before this update
Have you uncommented this line before defining the virtual hosts?
NameVirtualHost *:80
