How to refresh SQL Server database from an ASP Web application? - sql

I have an ASP.NET web app that launches a few iMacros scripts.
Each script extracts data from a different website and writes that data into an SQL Server database.
When the imacros scripts finish their task, the web app goes into a function that should retrieve all the information the scripts have written in the database.
The problem is the database is not refreshed and the SqlDataReader doesn't have any rows. I need to manually open SSMS and right click on the database and refresh it. Only then I can see the data.
Is there a way to do this in code ? like an SqlCommand or T-SQL(stored proc)??
I tried to find more information online but I couldn't really find an example that applies to my situation. I only found something about BindingSource and SqlDataAdapter but I don't think it's what I need here.
I need to refresh the database after all the imacros scripts have finished extracting and the final data should be retrieved with an SqlCommand like Select * From table (I use * because I don't know exactly how many columns I'm going to have in the end), and it should be added to a DataGrid for display.
Any tips ? Thank you !

Get data from the db to the view page in ASP.NET MVC

I am working on live support project for a web site. I just wrote the frontend and I created the table that I need in SQL Server and then I made a connection between SQL Server and my ASP.NET MVC project.
I watched many videos and I didn't get the part which I will start get the data from the models which are created when I made the connection I talked about.
To be clear: I wrote two Divs in web page one for the sender and one for the receiver and I give messages a variable called ̰"destination" in DB so if the value is 0 it will be insert the text in sender's div and if the value is 1 it will be insert the text in receiver's div.
The problem that I know the logic but I don't know how to apply it. Please can anyone help me and tell me how to do it? Or what is the Technique that I should work with?
You should start looking into Entity Framework to get the data from the database. I think for now you should use Database First approach which is very easy as compared to Code first approach.
To start with Database first just add new item and select ADO.NET Entity Model . This will launch the wizard where you can select EF designer from database and then you can give the connection string and all the databse you want to use

Some useful functions of MySQL Workbench for SQL Server management studio

Our project is moving from MySQL to MS SQL and after a long time working with MySQL Workbench I really miss some features in SQL Server Management studio (2014).
Do you know whether they exist in SSMS or there is an alternative/replacement application for SSMS to work with database?
Functions are listed below:
Generate update data script to review and to be able to copy-paste it. Do not update data when I move to another row when the table is opened for editing.
Some changes are still made in database in our project, and sometimes it's easier to add some rows manually in 5 tables, get the script, test it and run the script at production environment. I don't want to write a script for each update and I don't want to make a mistake when copying data to production server using edit table option.
Review update table script BEFORE the changes were made, not after (I am talking about Tools - Options - Designer - Auto generate change scripts).
Upload a file using select file dialog into a binary field.
Again, I know about using OPENROWSET function, just interested how to do it as I used to.
Ability to view large text fields in a convenient way in SSMS. Now I have to copy data from a field and paste it into notepad. (For example, error message with a long trace log)
Save a few tabs with some useful scripts and open all of them when I open SSMS.
Is there any way to organize tabs to be able to work with 10+ tabs more effectively? Now only 6 of them can be shown on the screen (compate it to 15 tabs in MySQL WB).
Simple 'search field' (like Ctrl+F in Excel) to be able to search data in all fields displayed on the screen.
I would appreciate any ideas.
Thank you.

Connecting crystal reports to oracle database using vb.net code

I'm using crystal reports 9, visual studio 2008, and oracle 9i in this project I'm doing. My crystal reports pull data from an oracle database, and are displayed on a CrystalReportViewer on a windows form. How would I make this connection using vb.net code?
Imagine this little scenario:
The host name for the oracle server is myHost.
The database name is myData
The username is myUser
The password is myPass.
Please assist me with the code to make this connection.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
Basically, you have a few options. If you've created a connection inside of the Crystal Report then you can hand off different login credentials to the report and crystal will handle it. You have to do it in a specific way through or it won't work (it's very picky on the order in which it's done). You will loop through the report and all the sub reports handing off new crendentials. The second route is to use a DataTable as your DataSource, populate it via VB.Net and hand it off (this doesn't sound like the route you're wanting to go).
Here are two blog entries where I describe how to pass new login credentials off to Crystal.
https://www.blakepell.com/2010-09-17-crystal-reports-changing-the-database-connection-from-net-subreport-links-and-the-case-of-the-missing-parameter-values
https://www.blakepell.com/2012-05-22-crystal-reports-extension-methods
In the first blog entry there is a "Private Sub ApplyNewServer(ByVal report As ReportDocument)" that will show you how to pass your new login and server information. It was extracted from another class so it might need slight modification to reference the login parameters you want to pass in.
Best of luck. ;)

Pulling Data From an SQL Database in HTML 5

I am trying to develop a BlackBerry application that will show data from an SQL Database from a server. I was researching the new HTML 5 option for blackberry (WebWorks) and noticed that it apparently cannot connect to any server data by itself. Some links state that I would need javascript coding to obtain it. I looked into the option of PhoneGap (link here: http://phonegap.com/) and decided I'd try using HTML 5 to produce the application. I have never touched SQL databases before and I am wondering how I would connect the two; meaning how do you pull data from the server given that you are working with HTML5?
I have looked at:
Where is data stored when using an HTML 5 Web SQL Database
Process for pulling data from a sql database
among others but I am still unsure as to what to do. I would be looking to "view" the data from the server and display it on the app. It would be something of the sort:
- HomeScreen: What data would you like to view?:
- Dropdown list of categories (from the database)
- Selecting Entry in dropdown leads to available information (from the database)
Any help would be appreciated, and of course thanks in advance.
the new (and pretty awesome) features of HTML5 is happening in the browser on the client side. What you will need is a back-end on the server side doing some magic. It is true that browsers now have databases but these are located on the phone, computer etc and as I understand your question you want these data to communicate with data on your server. To move data across the web you will need to perform HTTP-requests which can easily be done through javascript and ajax. Look a bit into these technologies and make a little server-side script that gathers data from the database and send it in a structured format to the phone (JSON, XML), then make a script in javascript on the client-side that parse these data and utilise them.
Good luck!

Updating Datatable to EXISTING global database connection

I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express. I have a WPF-based project. I have a successful connection to a database in Database Explorer, and a working existing Data Source in Data Sources.
I created a datatable from the datasource using this code:
Dim roster_table As New DataTable("AGENT_ROSTER")
I can manipulate this datatable just fine, but I cannot figure out how to save its data to my database (agentroster.sdf) since the connection is on a global level, and isn't declared in this particular window.
How do I update this database from the datatable on this window?
By the way, I tried creating a connection on this window's code, using the exact same connection string as the successful globally-connected database, yet it said that it couldn't connect.
Tough to say given the limited information you provided. You should also note that there are a lot of ways to do this. However the most basic way is to use a table adapter. Once you've set the Update, Insert and Delete commands you call its Update method.
