Test Function Against Every Table Value SQL - sql

I have two tables:
FINAL_VIEW:
and tblUnits:
I need to check that every Value in FINAL_VIEW, if present in Units or if LIKE any field in Correct_Unit, is a case sensitive match for that Correct_Unit(presumably using strComp(Value,Correct_Unit,0)). I'm using this as a criteria for selection.
For instance, if Value was BarG it would be LIKE barg but would then evaluate to false on the strComp().
The stage after this is to return the relevant Correct_Unit (in this case barg) in another field.
I have tried using a subquery within the strComp() but that doesn't work and I have no idea where ot go from here. Any help would be appreciated!

My question can't have been particularly clear but I worked out a solution for both parts.
The key was to link Value with Unit and then perform the query, whilst having my subStr() in the WHERE clause and selecting the Correct_Unit.
Essentially, the linking did the work.

Query takes too long to run, how to optimize it?

The query structure: Helper-select in "with" clause - selects most recent entry using 'top 1 transaction_date'. Then does many joins. It takes too much time to run - what am I doing wrong?

There are a lot of things that does not seems good. First of all, your base query must be a lot simpler. Something like this:

For example, you are joining the DWH.DimWarehouseLotNumber but you are not extracting columns - do you really need it? Also, there are other columns which are not returned by the view - why to query them?
From, there you are first filtering by date and then y other fields, so your first TOP 20 records may be filtered by the next conditions - is this a behavior you want?
Also, do you really want this cast?

It's better to use CONVERT, not FORMAT in performance aspect. Also, why not saving/materializing the TRANSACTION_DATE as INT (for example using a persisted computed column or just on CRUD) instead of calculating this value on each read?
Filtering by location code using LIKE clause can heart the performance, too. Why not adding a new column WareHouseLocationCodeType and set a same value for all locations satisfying this condition:
(wloc.WAREHOUSE_LOCATION_CODE like '6000W01%' OR wloc.WAREHOUSE_LOCATION_CODE like 'BL%')
Then you can filter by this column in the view since this is very important for you. Also, you can create filter index on this column to increase the performance, more.
Also, you may want to create a inline-function instead a view and pass the date as parameter:

The query optimization is science today. If you want to find bottlenecks in your query you can follow some of these steps:
As the first step, enable statistics with these commands:
SET STATISTICS TIME ON;
SET STATISTICS IO ON;
Once you execute these commands in some query windows in the same window execute your query. When your query is executed switch to the Messages tab and you will see a lot of useful information like TIME execution, parse and compile-time and maybe the most interesting I/O reads.
As the second step, try to understand which table has a lot of reads, for example if you are expecting 10 rows from the query, but in some tables you have 10k or 100k logical reads something is wrong. That means for the 10 rows query execution from one table reads 10k pages. Obviously you are missing some index on this table, try to find which index you need.
If you are having some static values in where clause like the following one, then think about Filtered Index:

Not always, but in some cases conversion can break your indexes if you are casting them or using some other function in where clause like the following one, even you have an index on this column query optimizer will not use it in query execution:

The last one, if you have OR logical operator in your query try to execute one by one part of your OR logical operator separately see to performance. This logical operator can really kill your query, and this is one example:
AND (wloc.WAREHOUSE_LOCATION_CODE like '6000W01%' OR wloc.WAREHOUSE_LOCATION_CODE like 'BL%')
Once, you determine here that you don't have any issues you can go more further.

I am stuck on getting a previous value

I have been working on this SQL code for a bit and I cannot get it to display like I want. I have an operation that we send parts outside of our business but there is no time stamp on when that operation sent out.
I am taking the previous operation's last labor date and the purchase order creation date to try and find out how long it takes that department to issued a purchase order.
I have tried LAST_Value to add to my query. I have even played with LAG and couldn't get a anything but errors.

The basic function you want is LAG (as you suggested) but you need to wrap it in a COALESCE. Here is a sample code that illustrates the concept

To apply it to your specific problem, I'd suggest using a COMMON TABLE EXPRESSION that replaces LastValue and using that instead of the raw table for your queries.
Your example picture doesn't match any tables you reference in your code (it would help us significantly if you included code that created temp tables matching those referenced in your code) so this is a guess, but it will be something like this:

The previous code is the responsable of include new data in some fields, since all of the other fields will carry the same data of the upper register. I'll apreciate some sugestions to acomplish this.
Here is a revised version of the UNION which you removed from the question. The original query was a good start, but you just did not provide sufficient details about the error or problem you were experiencing. My comments were not meant to have you remove the problem query, only that you needed to provide more details about the error or problem. In the future if you have a UNION, make sure the each query of the UNION works separately. Then you could debug problems easier, one step at a time.
Problems which I corrected in the second query of the UNION:
Removed reference to table [Type] in the query, since it was not part of the FROM clause. Instead, I replaced it with a literal value.
Fixed FROM clause to join both [Bill] and [Bill_Details] tables. You had fields from both tables, so why would you not join on them just like in the first query of the UNION?
Grouped on all fields from table [Bill] referenced in the SELECT clause. You must either group on all fields, or include them in aggregate expressions like Sum() or First(), etc.
Replaced empty strings with Nulls for the False cases on Iif() statements.

Combining 2 tables without losing any data

My first table (actually a view) is:

What you can tell, what really matters for me in the second table (TBL_POINTS_AND_CYCLES) is the field "TYPE".
What do I need help with:
I need to return everything from VW_MAIN_INFO and TYPE (from TBL_POINTS_AND_CYCLES).
However, if I cannot find a type in TBL_POINTS_AND_CYCLES, I should return a specific value (for example, "EMPTY" or null).
How can I achieve? Is the best path to use "minus" like this?
Finally, my problem with minus is that I don't have the same structure in both tables.
Any help? Ideas?

I am receiving errors because the sub-query generates more than one field. What I need is a way to specify a condition to the sub-query to only display data pertaining to a the specific work order in that row, specifically the work order number. I'm guessing this is some sort of loop function.
Any suggestions?
BTW, the bottom line is correct. The platform I use interprets values in braces as local variables.
A Sub-Query in select MUST return a scalar value. Use TOP 1 in your select and it should fix the issue. Or Alternately you can do the following ....
