HttpClient to send JSON String Windows Form app - vb.net

I'm writing a DLL but testing with a windows app and I have objects that I convert to JSON via
Private Function SeraializeStoreInfo(objt As JSON_postStoreInfo) As String
'This takes in an object of the JSON_postStoreInfo class
'and converts it to JSON to send
Dim JsonString As String
JsonString = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(objt)
Return JsonString
End Function
I then want to send this JSON string to a webservice to process. I just want to send the JSON string I've just serialized. When I pass the JasonString in as Content to this function as a string, I get an error saying that
HttpStringContent is not defined. and that Content must be of the type HttpContent.
How can a get around this?
Private Async Function SendStoreInfo(Content As String) As Task(Of String)
Dim stringContent As New HttpStringContent(Content, UnicodeEncoding.Utf8, "application/json")
Dim aClient As New HttpClient()
'Dim theContent As New StringContent(SR.ReadToEnd(), System.Text.Encoding.UTF8, "application/json")
' Dim theContent As New StringContent(Content, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8, "application/json")
'Post the data
Dim aResponse As HttpResponseMessage = Await aClient.PostAsync(theUrl, Content)
If (aResponse.IsSuccessStatusCode) Then
'this gets the response
StoreResponse = aResponse.ToString
Else
'show the response status code
Dim failureMsg = "HTTP Status: " + aResponse.StatusCode.ToString() + " – Reason: " + aResponse.ReasonPhrase
End If
End Function

HttpClient Digest authentication VB.Net

I'm writing an .NET application that uses HttpClient to connect to the API and retrieve video.
The Documentation provided for "Cookie-based authentication" details the following to login:
Call GET /api/getNonce
In response you'll get a JSON object with realm and nonce (nonce is a session key for this user)
Calculate authentication hash auth_digest, using realm and nonce (see algorithm below)
Call and pass the "auth" parameter in the json request body GET /api/cookieLogin
Server will check authentication and set session cookies
Which then expands on "Calculating Authentication Hash" with the following steps:
Call GET /api/getNonce
In response you'll get a JSON object with realm and nonce
Translate user's username to the lower case
Check the required method ("GET" for HTTP GET requests, "POST" for HTTP POST
requests, "PLAY" for RTSP etc)
digest = md5_hex(user_name + ":" + realm + ":" + password)
partial_ha2 = md5_hex(method + ":")
simplified_ha2 = md5_hex(digest + ":" + nonce + ":" + partial_ha2)
auth_digest = base64(user_name + ":" + nonce + ":" + simplified_ha2)
Here auth_digest is the required authentication hash
I use this Article written in C# as a reference, converted it to VB.NET, change a little bit of code in it according to the requirement above and then implemented it into my program. But I always get an error like this
"The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden."
When I debug the program, the problem appears when reading DigestAuthFixer.vb class in GrabResponse Function on this line response = CType(request2.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse) . I suspect that "auth_digest" didn't return the correct value so the web service to deny the request with a 403 error. My question is how to properly implement digest authentication using VB.Net ? Are there any standard methods or do I have to do it from scratch? Thanks in advance.
This is the code that I use to connect to the API and retrieve the video:

How to call the API POST method by passing the base64 image with the urlencoded in VB?

I'm trying to call the API post method by passing the image file (converting into base64 format).
I am able to call successfully in POSTMAN as per below:
But I'm unable to call in vb code and got the error message.
Below is my code in vb:
Function CallAPI(ByVal URL As String, ByVal Data As String) As String
Dim dataStream() As Byte = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(Data)
Dim request As String = (URL)
Dim webRequest As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(request)
webRequest.Method = "POST"
webRequest.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"
webRequest.ContentLength = dataStream.Length
Dim newStream As Stream = webRequest.GetRequestStream
' Send the data.
newStream.Write(dataStream, 0, dataStream.Length)
newStream.Close()
Dim Response As WebResponse = webRequest.GetResponse
Dim Reader As New StreamReader(Response.GetResponseStream)
Dim Results As String = Reader.ReadToEnd
Return Results
End Function
'Below is the code to convert the image file to base64 format:
Dim imgBase64 As String = ""
Dim imgBase64FilePath As String = ""
imgBase64FilePath = State.ApplicationSettings.WebPath().ToString() + "Photos\" + CStr(Fields.Item("EMPE_ID").Value) + "_" + epFields.GetValue("COMP_CODE").ToString().ToUpper() + ".jpg"
If helper.IsExists(imgBase64FilePath) Then
imgBase64 = ConvertFileToBase64(imgBase64FilePath)
End If
'I call the above function as per below:
Dim url = "http://" + deviceIP + "/face/create"
Dim data As String = "pass=" + devicePW + "&personId=" + CStr(Fields.Item("CARD_NO").Value) + "&faceId=" + CStr(Fields.Item("CARD_NO").Value) + "&imgBase64=" + imgBase64
Dim response As String = CallAPI(url, data)
Below is the error response:
{"code":"2000","msg":"200003, bad base-64","result":1,"success":false}
May I know which part is wrong?
Please advise me.
Thanks in Advance.

Extract cookie from browser and attach to WebRequest

I have the following code to send a WebRequest to Betfair, usually this would be sent from a browser and it would send cookie data with it to identify my login, how would I go about attaching the cookie data to this request? (I need to find out how to extract the cookie data first, if anyone can point to any useful articles relating to that it would be much appreciated).
Private Sub Place_Bet(ByVal marketId As String, selectionId As String)
Dim url As Uri
url = New Uri("https://etx.betfair.com/www/etx-json-rpc?_ak=nzIFcwyWhrlwYMrh&alt=json")
Dim json As String = "[{""method"":""ExchangeTransactional/v1.0/place....}]"
Dim data = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(json)
Dim result_post = SendRequest(url, data, "application/json", "POST")
MsgBox(result_post)
End Sub
Private Function SendRequest(uri As Uri, jsonDataBytes As Byte(), contentType As String, method As String) As String
Dim response As String
Dim request As WebRequest
request = WebRequest.Create(uri)
request.ContentLength = jsonDataBytes.Length
request.ContentType = contentType
request.Method = method
Using requestStream = request.GetRequestStream
requestStream.Write(jsonDataBytes, 0, jsonDataBytes.Length)
requestStream.Close()
Using responseStream = request.GetResponse.GetResponseStream
Using reader As New StreamReader(responseStream)
response = reader.ReadToEnd()
End Using
End Using
End Using
Return response
End Function

RestSharp response forbidden

I trying get a simple request to https://c-cex.com/t/prices.json
If i use this url in browser the correct response is showed , but if i make the same request using RestRequest i receive the 403 error Forbidden in all times. i trying HttpClient,WebRequest i get the same error
I put the header with user-agent, no cache and a lot of another values but did not work
Any ideas about this problem?
Dim url As String = "https://c-cex.com/t/prices.json"
Dim client As New RestSharp.RestClient(url)
Dim request = New RestRequest(url, Method.GET)
Dim response = client.Execute(request)
Updated code with apisign request
Dim nonce As String = CInt((DateTime.UtcNow - New DateTime(1970, 1, 1)).TotalSeconds).ToString
Dim url As String = "https://c-cex.com/t/api.html?a=getbalance&currency=BTC&apikey=" & API_KEY & "&nonce=" & nonce
Dim keybytes() = UnicodeEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(API_SECRET)
Dim hs As System.Security.Cryptography.HMACSHA512 = New System.Security.Cryptography.HMACSHA512(keybytes)
Dim urlbytes() = UnicodeEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(url)
Dim sh() = hs.ComputeHash(urlbytes)
Dim client As New RestSharp.RestClient(url)
Dim request = New RestRequest(url, Method.GET)
request.AddHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache")
request.AddHeader("apisign", HttpUtility.UrlEncode(ToHexString(sh)))
Dim response = client.Execute(request)
I am getting the response without providing the header information and It looks given piece of code is working correctly for me in VB and C#.As a best practice, base URL needs to be specified in RestClient and relative URL in RestRequest.
Please recheck without adding the request header information
VB:
Imports RestSharp
Module Module1
Sub Main()
Dim host As String = "https://c-cex.com"
Dim endpoit As String = "t/prices.json"
Dim client As New RestSharp.RestClient(host)
Dim request = New RestRequest(endpoit, Method.GET)
Dim response = client.Execute(request)
Console.WriteLine("Response Body " + response.Content)
Console.WriteLine("Response Code " + response.StatusDescription)
End Sub
End Module
C#:
String host = "https://c-cex.com";
String endpoint = "t/prices.json";
RestClient _restClient = new RestClient(host);
var request = new RestRequest(endpoint, Method.GET);
var response = _restClient.Execute(request);
Console.WriteLine("Response Body :"+response.Content);
Console.WriteLine("Response Status Code :" + response.StatusDescription);

vb.net OpenWeatherMap using HttpWebRequest

I am unable to get the HttpWebRequest to work properly with OpenWeatherMap.
When I try out the URL from the browser I get the data. However, when I am sending it from the program I'm getting a message with code id. Like this:
"message":"","cod":"404"
What Am I doing wrong?
VB.NET Code:
Private Shared AppID As String = "add_app_id_Here"
Public Shared Function GetWeather(ByVal location As String) As List(Of WeatherDetails)
Dim url = String.Format _
("http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/forecast/daily?q={0}&type=accurate&mode=xml&units=metric&cnt=3&appid={1}",
location, AppID)
Try
Dim request As HttpWebRequest = DirectCast(HttpWebRequest.Create(url), HttpWebRequest)
request.AuthenticationLevel = Net.Security.AuthenticationLevel.None
Dim response As WebResponse = request.GetResponse()
'The body of the request is sent here
Dim responseReader As New StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream())
Dim responseInfo As String = responseReader.ReadToEnd()
responseReader.Close()
response.Close()
If Not (responseInfo.Contains("message") And responseInfo.Contains("cod")) Then
Dim xEl = XElement.Load(New System.IO.StringReader(responseInfo))
Return GetWeatherInfo(xEl)
Else
Return New List(Of WeatherDetails)
End If
Catch ex As Exception
Return New List(Of WeatherDetails)
End Try
End Function
After breaking my head I found that his method HttpWebRequest is not tolerant to special characters or non printable characters.
Thus in the URL I had to hardcode the "%27" character and it solved the problem.
