installing lxml on 64 bit windows - lxml

So I'm trying to install lxml on my machine, and I can't seem to get it to work.
I've got Windows 8.1 64-bit and python 3.5
I've used both
pip install lxml
and
easy_install lxml
I keep getting this error message:

I have also tried downloading the .whl from http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#lxml and attempted to manually install the wheel but receive this error message:
C:\Users\jgarber\Downloads>pip install lxml-3.6.4-cp35-cp35m-win_amd64.whl
lxml-3.6.4-cp35-cp35m-win_amd64.whl is not a supported wheel on this platform.
even with the python -m pip install statement.
At this point I'm not sure what I'm missing, any help would be greatly appreciated.

By default, Python will install as 32-bit on Windows, even on 64-bit systems. Therefore, to match this, you must select the wheel for 32-bit systems.
You can verify that your Python interpreter is 32-bit, because the REPL will look like this when starting:
Python 3.5.2 (v3.5.2:4def2a2901a5, Jun 25 2016, 22:01:18) [MSC v.1900 32 bit (Intel)] on win32
You should pick the lxml-3.6.4-cp35-cp35m-win32.whl package for Python 3.5 on Windows (unless you explicitly selected 64-bit when downloading Python) which should solve your issue.

They fixed this issue as of lxml version 4.2.5.
If you are still getting this issue, see if your requirements file specifies a specific version of lxml. If so, you should be able to fix the problem by updating the specified version to 4.2.5 or above.

Can't build wheel and single-version-externally-managed not recognized error on pip install pythonnet WSL 2 VS Code

I am on WSL2 in VS Code. Using Zsh on VS Code.
I am trying to install pythonnet though am getting two errors:
ERROR: Failed building wheel for pythonnet
error: option --single-version-externally-managed not recognized
This is from using pip install pythonnet==2.5.2
My versions are:
Python 3.8.10
Wheel 0.37.0
Mono: 6.8.0.105
pycparser 2.20
I have searched high and low online though I can't find a solution - everything seems to point to updating wheel and installing mono - as you can see from the above version numbers, I have them installed.
I am doing everything from within a virtual env.
Does anyone have any experience with this or know what to do to get past these errors?

Check the logs for full command output.
You need a newer version of Mono. The one you have does not support C# 7.3 that Pythonnet build needs.

2.1.- Optional (documentation)
$sudo apt-get install manpages-dev
3.- Verify GCC compiler installation
$gcc --version

Error when installing Tensorflow with Conda on Windows

Operating on Windows 10.
I am trying to install Tensorflow within a conda environment. The Anaconda 3 version I am using is the one that can be installed from within Visual Studio, conda version number is 4.6.14.
I created a new environment with conda create -n test python=3.6 and afterwards tried to install Tensorflow:
> conda activate test
> (test) conda install tensorflow-gpu
after which I'm getting the following error:
Downloading and Extracting Packages
tensorflow-base-1.13 | 217.6 MB | ############################################################################ | 100%
[Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Visual Studio\\Shared\\Anaconda3_64\\pkgs\\tensorflow-base-1.13.1-gpu_py36h871c8ca_0\\Lib\\site-packages\\tensorflow\\include\\tensorflow\\include\\external\\eigen_archive\\unsupported\\Eigen\\src\\SpecialFunctions\\SpecialFunctionsPacketMath.h'
Any idea on what could be the error here?

I have the same issue. Like you, I also did the convenient "mistake" of installing Anaconda with the Visual Studio installer. As James pointed out, the problem is indeed that the file path is too long (> 260). Anyway, it would seem we have to swallow the bitter pill, uninstall Anaconda and reinstall it at root level (I'll go for Mini-Conda this time).
Before I do that, I'll try to find a way of moving the Anaconda3_64\pkgs\ to a different location. Should that work, I'll post it here.
Edit: Got the solution, no reinstall necessary!
The problem comes from windows itself, which by default does not support long file paths. But this can be changed using a registry flag:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/The-Windows-10-default-path-length-limitation-MAX-PATH-is-256-characters.html
Open Regedit as Admin
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
Change LongPathsEnabled to 1 (DWORD 32 bit)
Warning: it could break compatibility of older programs. So far, for me everything is still working fine. If you should run into problems, simply revert the setting (and remember you have changed this setting!)

How can I figure out why Linenoise is failing to install?

This is on 64-bit Windows 10 Pro with MSVC 2015. This question has a long body because I want to give full information up front, but the actual question is rather straightforward:
How can I get panda to keep the working directory around (like cpanmdoes) after an install failure so I can diagnose what went wrong?
As you can see from the log below, linenoise.dll seems to be created in the right place, but come install time, it is nowhere to be found.
The .panda-work directory in %TEMP% is gone.
I just built Rakudo from source by doing
git clone git://github.com/rakudo/rakudo.git
cd rakudo
set CFLAGS=/O2 /favor:INTEL64 /Qpar
perl Configure.pl --gen-moar --gen-nqp --backends=moar --prefix=c:/opt/perl6
nmake test
nmake install
nmake spectest ← The number of failures has gone up since the last time I tried this, but that's not related to my question
Then I installed panda by doing:
git clone --recursive git://github.com/tadzik/panda.git
cd panda
perl6 bootstrap.pl
which worked.
Then I did
panda install Task::Star
I got a test failure:
==> Building NativeHelpers::Blob
==> Testing NativeHelpers::Blob
t/00-trivial.t ..
Dubious, test returned 5 (wstat 1280, 0x500)
Failed 1/1 subtests
but I force installed that because I wanted to get to as complete an install as possible as quickly as possible.
So, forging ahead, I hit this:
C:\Users\...\Temp> panda install Linenoise
==> Fetching Linenoise
==> Building Linenoise

The Build.pm file for Linenoise is simply not written correctly. They are hard-coding the 'lib' prefix to the library name while also trying to use the platform library name guessing mechanism in another part. If it wants to use $*VM.platform-library-name then it needs to generate a file named linenoise.dll, not liblinenoise.dll
I'm also not sure that Linenoise works on windows even if it did install.
You should probably be using zef instead of panda. If you were, you could view the working directory used at ~/.zef/store/p6-linenoise.git
