So apparently the web is just chock full of old tutorials on how to configure this stuff that trying to find anything recent is a needle in a haystack endeavor.
What I want to do is move the Wamp64 homepage located on myIpAddres:8080/ somewhere else with local access.
I'd then like to make the root my landing page for various web project I'm doing for a class.
Problem is, moving index.php in C:/wamp64/www causes the dang thing to break. I'd like to keep it on local access for convenience but it simply can't live in the www folder where I want to put my own index.html I believe. Maybe I'm wrong though.
If THATS not possible, is there a way to make 'myIpAddress:8080/' point to a different folder, while still being able to access WAMP's index.php at a different address?

I took over a website which I'm supposed to admin and somebody brought to my attention that certain Indexes and Files are available, which shouldn't be. I will be using dummy names.
You were able to access example.com/intern before, but I changed a line in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf according to this https://stackoverflow.com/a/31445273 . This worked partly, as I get a 403-Forbidden when I now navigate to example.com/intern and that's basically what I want.
However the directory intern governs a file called file.php.bak aswell as file.php. When I navigate to example.com/intern/file.php I get a white website. I am however not sure, if you are able to access file.php in another way, because the site does load and I don't get a 403 like before. What is way worse and the reason I am struggling with this is: If I go to example.com/intern/file.php.bak then my Browser (Firefox) offers me to download file.php.bak, which I can read in plaintext. I want all files in intern to not be accessible via the website, but I have no idea how to do this. Can anybody help?
Things I've tried:
Removing the Indexes from the apache2.conf file like mentioned above. It only puts the 403 on the directory itself and not recursively for all the files in it.
Writing a .htaccess file as described here: https://fedingo.com/how-to-prevent-direct-file-download-in-apache-server/ and putting it in intern with the same result as in 1)
Putting an empty index.html file in the intern directory. This leads to no more 403 in example.com/intern, but the download on example.com/intern/file.php.bak is still possible. I've also tried index.php with the same result.
File System:
The application runs from /var/www/application which is also the folder for the /var/www/application/index.php I want to use. The /var/www/application/intern directory is also there. While it isn't browsable anymore, the files in it still are accessible. /var/www/application/intern/file.php can be navigated to via example.com/intern/file.php, but it seems like it can't be downloaded or read as it results in a white page. /var/www/application/intern/file.php.bak can however be downloaded via example.com/intern/file.php.bak.
Let's say Apache document root is set to DocumentRoot "/folder_one/folder_two"
Placing files in a folder_one will prevent people browsing your apache server and requesting the files directly.
Place index file in folder_two and include some code such as PHP to tell apache to include whatever files you want from folder_one.
In this manor Apache will still be able to serve whatever files you want from folder_one and people will not be able to request the files directly as the are located in a directory above the Apache document root.
I have an installation of prestashop 1.6 on a domain www.mydomain.com and a virtualhost on a server for redirecting to the prestashop/public_html folder. This is my main website working perfect.
Now i would like to clone the installation in another folder prestashop/clone_html and i created an alias on the virtualhost from www.mydomain.com/clone to prestashop/clone_html
Now if i access the clone website the frontend is not working, i get a 404 error and all the links are pointing on the main domain
I tried to change settings.inc.php change the base URI on the database and delete both .htaccess and cache but the links are never changing.
I think maybe the problem is coming from multilanguage redirect?
Do you have any idea what i should try to change?
Thanks
That is a good one! If you want to change the URL of the store and you have already migrated the contents (so no access to the admin is possible or you donĀ“t want to bother), you may do the change directly at the PS table where this information is kept. The name of the table is <prefix>shop_url. Once you access it, the content is self explanatory. You have to play with domain or domain_ssl and then with physical_uri.
Also, using a subdomain as has been suggested in a comment may be a good idea. Depending on your hosting, you may be able to define a subdomain and make it point to a subdirectory. This keeps the physical_uri to / and may avoid other potential problems.
Im currently trying to move a website to production that has been designed using contao. The website has been developed in a subdirectory of the current website. Now when I change the DocumentRoot to the contao directory the application automatically forwards me to the /development directory which in that situation does not exist anymore.
I did a database dump and searched it for "/development" to find the variable that is storing this information but I didn't find a match. I then did the same with the configuration files but it didn't show up any results too. How is redirecting handeled in contao?
It sounds like your pathconfig.php is wrong. After deploying/moving a Contao installation, you should always execute and log into the Install Tool under contao/install.php. This will correct your pathconfig.php.
Also make sure the RewriteBase in the .htaccess is set to the correct value (probably / in your case).
Reason for Problem:
I'm working on a website and wanted to work on it without making edits to the live website. My hosting package allows for "infinite" domains. So instead of editing the live website I create a new domain, without purchasing the domain name and am trying to develop with this new domain.
Issue At Hand:
This issue is that the reference file paths don't work anymore and return 404 when trying to load the webpage. My original website directory structure looks like this
cgi-bin
config
public_html
->JSfiles
->CSSfiles
->PHPfiles
The new one is the same structure however when you open the "temporary web address" the URL looks like this
http://217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/"
instead of
http://myTempAddress.com/
so when my index.html file looks for /JSfiles/someJSfile.js its requesting
http://217.199.187.199/JSfiles/someJSfile.js
when it needs to be requesting
http://217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/JSfiles/someJSfile.js
Things I've Tried Unsuccessfully:
I would really like to fix this by redirecting with the .htaccess file in the root directory on the server. Ive tried using the following directives with no success.
Redirect /217.199.187.199/JSfiles/mustache.min.js http://217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/JSfiles/mustache.min.js
Redirect /JSfiles http://217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/JSfiles/
Redirect /JSfiles http://217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/
Redirect /JSfiles 217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/
Question:
How can I redirect the requests to the right location? I need all the the requests to be of the form http://217.199.187.199/myTempAddress.com/someDir/Somefile.ex
You need to read up a bit more on Virtual Hosting in particular name based virtual hosting.
https://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/vhosts/name-based.html
It sounds like your provider might support name based VHosts but what you're trying to do is not taking advantage of that. To do what you want ie have path that points to a different version of your site is best achieved using mod_rewrite. See this
https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/rewrite/remapping.html
You need to make sure that your provided actually supports this.
I have installed Apache on Xubuntu and I am have a problem accessing it from the internet.
If I access it via localhost I can reach the home page plus pages in the subdirectory. How if I access it from the internet I can get the home page but nothing else. When I type in the subdirectory and page, no links at this point, It either never leaves the home page or gets rerouted back to it.
I have no .htaccess files in place, I have tried adding an alias and entries in the conf file and I have checked ownership and permissions. I have gone as far as wiping the machine and starting with the same results.
I feel like it is going to be a case of missing something simple but I cannot think of what. The log files have indicated that an IP tried to access the subdirectory but shows no error in doing so. When typed into the URL the /Directory/Index.html shows in the address bar but it displays the home page.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Most likely the issue is contained either in your apache.conf file or your firewall. I would have a good look at your apache.conf to see if there is anything restricting access to your sub-directories.
if you want to use default http port (80), so long story short www.abc.com without explicit port number, you must allow this on your server because 80 is privileged on most system, this could be a problem
