Modal Dialog Not Supported in Edge Browser - dynamics-crm-2013

I want to use edge browser for CRM. But certain code is not supported in edge.One of them is the showModalDialog method. It is not supported in edge.Is there any alternative for this except window.open()?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks In Advance.

It depends. window.open is in fact okay if you only need it to work on the Web Client.
If you also want to make it available on Mobile/App, then you have to use Xrm.Utility.openEntityForm (for record pages) or Xrm.Utility.openWebResource (for, as the name implies, web resources).
Anything else (i.e. the new MsCrm.CrmDialog trick from another answer, which leverages internal CRM functions) might work and fit your needs perfectly, but is neither documented nor supported. Also, it will most likely break when you upgrade.
More information about Xrm.Utility on MSDN here: Xrm.Utility

You could use Mscrm.CrmDialog
var crmDialog = new Mscrm.CrmDialog(Mscrm.CrmUri.create(url), window, width, height);
crmDialog.show();

Opera Next extension autoupdate via update_url

I got problem with my company internal extension. They don't want to publish it, as it does gather data on external server. So I need to host it myself... but would like not to lose ability of autoupdate.
As far as I read I need to use update_url in manifest, but nothing more is said in Opera documentation...
"update_url": "http://path/to/updateInfo.xml", - as it is said in documentation page
Ok... and what should I put in that xml? Will it autoupdate or just notify users about new updates? Where do I put rest of updated files?
I tried to concat Opera itself about this question, but they don't give any contact information except something like if you have problem, ask on stackoverflow... so here I am.
If it does not work, I was thinking about really BAD method, using unsafe-eval and keeping newest version in local storage... but would rather like to avoid that.
In general the behavior is the same as for Chrome. You can base on this document: https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/autoupdate

Is _method=DELETE really supported?

I just noticed that my application can not remove a like on a media object. My code for liking / unliking is identical except I add the parameter _method=DELETE to the unlike case (both use POST). The documentation states that this is supported, and it's pretty common for RESTful API given the lack of support in most browsers for DELETE. I've tried in from the Apigee console too, and the same problem seems to exist, however DELETE does seen to work. I'd attach screenshot from the Apigee console, but apparently I need more points or something.
Yes, this is really supported, but it has been broken since February 3rd. It has now been fixed!

Umbraco: A/B testing, links in structure

I'm having a problem when trying to A/B test certain nodes in my node-tree in Umbraco.
What I want to do is to copy a node in the node-tree to a specific spot and use that B-structure to see which of the structures works best, using Google analytics.
For example we have two node structures, let's call them "Private" and "Sweden".
Their structure with childnodes and properties are exactly the same. The only difference between them is the propertyvalues (content). The "Private"-URL is www.mysite.com/Private and the "Sweden"-URL is www.mysite.com/Sweden.
What I would like to do is to change every link on the B-structure, so that it points to its match at the A-structure. The problem is that since it's two different structures, it will have two different alternative links.
With other words, it should be a coinsidence that it enters the B-structure, then be moved back to the A-structure in the next click.
We manage what page it should load (either the A-node or the B-node) with scripts, so that it has a 50% chance for each node, and if it lands on the B-node, Google analytics will save data. What we can't manage is that every link on that page will be to the A-node.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

David
There's a couple of ways that seem likely to give you a start at least.
The /config/urlrewriting.config file allows you to set up multiple redirect rules within umbraco so a section like the following might work in sending all requests (whether (/sweden/pagename/ or /private/pagename/) back to the private structure. Not sure how GA will handle it:
rewriteUrlParameter="ExcludeFromClientQueryString" destinationUrl="http://www.mysite.com/private/$1" redirect="Domain" redirectMode="Permanent" ignoreCase="true" />
Secondly a simple httpmodule (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307996) can process all page requests and redirect as required - you could do a gaq_push here directly or indirectly.
I'd be interested to know how you get on - it seems a good area for extension to Umbraco.
I'm not sure I have understood perfectly what you need to do, so please excuse any assumptions that may prove mistaken. Here's what I think:
Since A & B nodes should share the same html content (besides the links of course), why don't you make the link href attribute dynamic by using a bit of razor in the template or macro:
#{var isANode = CurrentPage.Parent.Name == "Sweden"; }
A similar approach would work if you are using web forms.
We finally came to the final decision to use the alternative template-solution. Since there seem to be no generic solution for my case of this problem we had to create an alternative template with specific macros to render the different information for every documenttype we're using.
Creating dynamic links for every page is a hell of a job in this stage in the project, since there are so many pages and links. Also some links are made in javascript, so there's another problem.
I copied the a-structure to another node, only for the reason to be able to change propertyvalues. There might be a problem logging and track the information with Google Analytics though, so that's the next step for us in this project. In our alternative templates we're getting the propertyvalues from the b-structure.
Still, if anyone have some better solution I'd highly appreciate it!

How do I test my double-click prevention?

I have seen many articles on how to prevent double-clicks (linked to the one I am using). But now how do I test it so make sure it working as expected?
It depends on what exactly you're testing and what technique do you use. E.g., you can use Selenium to click the button several times. Or, if you're more focused on the server side, use httpUnit to submit a form twice.
I would point the form towards a test email or even provide a CC address to test these. By utilizing what was pointed out in the link, or using preventDefault, it should work just fine

Refresh browser via cron(or not) to a different page on remote request?

I need to display pages in a tutorial fashion. I looked in to netsupport, beamyourscreen and other possibilities but, I do not want the viewers to download anything. I cannot use gd / send screenshots due to audio / video instructions embedded in some of the pages.
Basically, I need the ability to "refresh" a users browser window to a different page via an interface on my end. Whether via a form submission, javascript or any other type of "controller" that allows me to change the page on the viewers browser. PERL preferred but, PHP / javascript whatever works and is cross browser. I set up a simple javascript page forward timer that "works" but, page load times and conversation interruptions are a huge factor.
The entire tutorial website will be developed around this ability.
I was looking in to curl / cron / wget methods but, found little information.
I have seen forum and chat scripts that basically perform a similar task but, there must be a simple(ish) solution in leau of hacking up another script to suit my needs.
I do not want others to control the pages either. The site really, only needs to be accessable during the tutorial however, It "could" remain web accessable as long as user interaction was normal unless (being controlled).
The initial site concept is based on instructing people how to properly introduce new pets into a home. Will be operated by a veteranarian that saved my pets life. I wanted to give something back.
Possible? I really appreciate simple examples etc...
You have no other way but to keep polling the server for "instructions" using javascript. No, you can't send nothing to the end user browser, neither curl nor wget.
Mainly, you'll have to set up a simple request/response protocol between the browser and the server.
If you want to go deeper, you can use something like cometd/meteord/etc. If not, a hidden iframe that reloads himself and receives pages with javascript code for the needed actions can do the trick.
Another alternative.
With javascript dopolling and single character flatfile. Have a simple one character flatfile with a single var. Write it in perl (it is faster and uses less resources than php). The parent script calls a javascript variable in a flatfile. It hits the flatfile and goes wherever the var sets it. The flatfile is written to by the controller. Done.
I guess you could also rename an empty flatfile and use that as the controller. I am usure which is faster, open and read a specific file or hit the directory and return the file name. On the controller side, opening and writing to a file vs renaming a file. Maybe they counter each other in resources and time?
This way the site can act as a normal site. When you want to have remote users see a "presentation" (automatically being shown the site pages at the controllers pace), the controller activates polling and tells the viewers to push a start button. This allows a remote instructor to load pages for the viewers at his leisure.
It is a simple solution that works with nothing really sophisticated going on. No frames are needed either. Just need javascript enabled.
Any better suggestions are welcome!
It occurred to me that what you might want to use is HTML Push technology. Check out the wiki, they have several links. I have never used it myself
