How can I set PhpStorm file structure view to show inherited members by default (or change key binding from Ctrl+F12 to show)?
The question pretty much says it all.
I configured file structure to show up with Ctrl+Alt+S, but cannot change the default setting for show inherited and can't change the keys either.
Is there a file, where default non editable configurations are in?
For example there is an xml file under PHPStormRoot\config\keymaps
What would the action be for that?
Is there a plugin for more configurations?
Should I consider writing a plugin myself (would I be able to change such things)?
I found that if you remove the other configurations(ctrl+F12) for opening file structure, show inherited members becomes your keybinding(ctrl+alt+S).
However it can be buggy, won't open until you re open the IDE.
Also you will be delighted to know that if the method you are looking for doesn't exist it will automatically search from inherited members too.
I also removed f12 from my keymap at PHPStormRoot\config\keymaps\$YOURCONFIGFILE.xml

I'm new to the IntelliJ IDE. In the past I was working with Visual Studio or Eclipse.
In those IDEs there was an asterisk * above the name of the file which has been modified.
But in IntelliJ with the default configuration I can't see if the file is modified. What's more the file is saved automatically when I change focus to another window.
I've found some options under Settings -> IDE Settings -> General -> Synchronization:
Synchronize files on frame activation
Save files on frame deactivation
Save files automatically if application is idle for...
After unchecking all that options the file is not saved automatically every time I change focus to another window, which is good. But still I can't:
see if the file is modified (no asterisk)
decide if the file should be saved when I'm closing it (IDE doesn't ask for that)
And when I'm closing IntelliJ file which has been modified is saved without even noticing.
Do you know what can I do to change how IntelliJ behaves?

The exact Save feature like eclipse is not available in IntelliJ.
Because IntelliJ IDEA has the ability to change so many files
simultaneously in large refactoring actions, and change them without
ever opening them, single file saves don't make very much sense. In

To show an asterisk when a file is modified: open Settings (CTRL+ALT+S), switch to Editor > General > Editor Tabs and select the Mark modified tab with asterisk checkbox.
To remove autosave, uncheck: Appearance & Behavior > System Settings > Save files on frame deactivation
Does anybody know how to change the default sources folder in Netbeans 7.1.2
I've looked through the files but can't seem to locate where the default directory is stored - I have been through the forums but can't find anything useful..?
currently C:\Users\wayne\Documents\NetBeansProjects\PhpProject7
I have read that if you select a different directory then that becomes the default - this is not the case on my installation

If you are using Windows 7 or vista, you are gonna find it here C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\7.1.2\config\Preferences\org\netbeans\modules\projectui.properties.
However if you you are using windowsXP remember the USERPROFILE enviromental variable is not Users but rather Documents and Settings. Enviromental variables change depending on the operating system you are using. To know whats the USERPROFILE variable for yours just open a command prompt window and type SET USERPROFILE. Or you can simply type %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\$ENTER_YOUR_NETBEANS_VERSION_NUMBER_HERE\config\Preferences\org\netbeans\modules\projectui.properties and that will send you to the correct directory.
It's actually pretty simple.
"C:\Users\wayne\.netbeans\7.1.2\config\Preferences\org\netbeans\modules there is a file called projectui"
is right on the money, but he forgot one detail that you need to keep in mind for changing the directory. If you want to set the default project folder to (in my case):
"C:\Program Files\glassfish-3.1.2.2\glassfish\domains\domain1\docroot"
then you have to double the slashes. Instead of the above link you have to put:
"C:\\Program Files\\glassfish-3.1.2.2\\glassfish\\domains\\domain1\\docroot"
without spaces. I had it that way originally but it hid one of each of them.
In newer versions, right-click on the project you want to move in the 'Projects' tab, and then click 'Move'. This will allow you to move the project to a new directory.
Tip! I found (on Windows 7) that the AppData folder is hidden, so doesn't appear in windows explorer files by default .
To make it visible, open a window for the USERPROFILE directory as above, and use
Organize ->
Folder and Search Options ->
View (tab) ->
Advanced settings list ->
Hidden files and folders radio button to show them.
(Or you can open it via search or run if you type it right)
I hope that saves you the several hours it cost me...
I'm having an issue with IntelliJ, that I cannot seem to find a solution for myself. I have not changed any settings, yet when I started my IDE this morning, all Inspections and other highlighting has disappeared.
By highlighting, I mean stuff like variable names becoming purple, static finals shown with italic text, etc.
Inheritance seems to be broken as well, in that an implementing method links to the implemented interface method, but interface methods do not link to the implementing method.
My search for this tells me that there is an icon for this in the bottom right. That's set to "Inspections", and under configuration, it seems like everything is set to default.
Is there some way to un-break my IDE?
Another solution:
File -> Power Save mode
It needs to be disabled.
The (or at least one) answer to this is:
File -> Invalidate Caches
Make sure the folder the code is in is marked as the sources root. If it's not marked as the sources root, syntax highlighting will be very limited.
To mark a directory as the sources root, right click the directory, then navigate down to "Mark directory as" and select "Sources root."
On the compile tab of the project properties:
If you look at the configuration dropdown it typically shows debug/release/active/all.
I attempted to add another option at one point in the build->configuration manager window, but decided that I didn't want to keep it. I removed it there, but it keeps showing up in the dropdown on the properties, as well as generates a folder by that name.
Does anyone know how to remove this? I can't find any "delete" or otherwise options.
You likely just removed it at one level. Check the configuration manager on your Solution, and then on each of the projects within the Solution, and make sure it's removed from each.
(By going to the drop down, clicking , then remove just as you did before)
onload i do a msgbox (my.settings.mytext)
it returns a value, but i cannot find where in the project i have set this value!! it was definitely set by me, but i cannot find it anywhere. please help

This last line that I have emphasized is most likely where you want to look.
Maybe you could goto the Edit menu and do a Quick Find on the Settings name, if it finds it you'll probably find out where you've set the value.
Also, have you checked the Program.vb file? I always forget about that file.
