Hive will not recognize column name in the 2nd condition in the query - sql

I ran the following and query and got the following error. Please see that error message mentions the column name (platform) that it thinks is not there. weird.
hive -S -e 'select * from devices.device_app_action where ds= '20160511'
AND platform= 'ios' limit 3;'
FAILED: SemanticException [Error 10004]: Line 1:73 Invalid table alias or column reference 'ios': (possible column names are: duid, id, dt, app, platform, app_level, tier1, tier2, tier3, tier4, tier5, tier6, first_geo, first_v, first_lang, total_events, min_ats, max_ats, ds)
Its telling me the column platform does not exist and its there in the list

could be you have to enclose the query in proper quotes
'select * from devices.device_app_action where ds= "20160511" AND platform= "ios" limit 3;'

SemanticException [Error 10128]: Line 1:33 Not yet supported place for UDAF 'sum'

My command was this in hive shell:
select name_of_state, max(total_confirmed_cases/sum(total_confirmed_cases)) from total_india_case;
I got this error:
FAILED: SemanticException [Error 10128]: Line 1:33 Not yet supported place for UDAF 'sum'
Plzzz help
You are getting error because you are not using group by clause. You can't use aggregate functions like this.
I am not sure what are you trying to achieve, but assuming that you want to fetch the state name having maximum ration of total_confirmed_cases to entire India.
With total_sum as (
Select sum(total_confirmed_cases) total from total_india_case)
Select name_of_state, max(total_confirmed_cases)/total from total_india_case
left outer join total_sum on 1=1
group by name_of_state, total limit;

How to fix FAILED: ParseException line 7:0 cannot recognize input near 'user' '.' 'time_zone' in selection target

I am currently analysing Iron man 3 tweets sentiments and getting error when I categorise the country wise tweets
Tried in both linux console and Hue hive editor
CREATE VIEW tweets_simple AS
SELECT

cast ( from_unixtime( unix_timestamp(concat( '2013 ', substring(created_at,5,15)), 'yyyy MMM dd hh:mm:ss')) as timestamp) ts,
text,
user.time_zone
FROM tweets_raw;
Errors:
FAILED: ParseException line 6:14 cannot recognize input near 'user' '.' 'time_zone' in selection target
If column name in source table having dot like in your case user.time_zone, You can try using like this `user.time_zone` using back-tic (`)
Else hive consider the first part before dot as database, alias of any subquery result.
JAR was missing, actually once logout we need to run the command again other wise it will not execute, well thanks for your suggestion and time

Facing issue while running select query on DB2

I'm querying a DB2 table (STG_TOOL) with 2 columns - T_L_ID - Integer, Name - VARCHAR(20).
SELECT T_L_ID, Name FROM STG_TOOL;
The query returns answer. However, the below query gives error.
SELECT T_L_ID, RTRIM(Name) FROM STG_TOOL;
This query gives error at 78th row.
DB2 Database Error: ERROR [42815] [IBM][DB2] SQL0171N The data type,
length or value of the argument for the parameter in position "1" of
routine "SYSIBM.RTRIM" is incorrect. Parameter name: "". 1 0
The reason identified is that Name in 78th row has a replacement character - ''.
Even, the same query with a where clause gives us the error.
SELECT T_L_ID, RTRIM(Name) FROM STG_TOOL WHERE T_L_ID = 78;
The sample date on 78th rows is T_L_ID = 1040 & Name = 'test'
The above mentioned error re-occurs for the above query.
What does the error implies? How can this be handled/solved?

Toad for DB2 is being used for querying. Toad version - 5.5

hive date format error when used with the table

I have fields like date_column = 20140228 in the table 1. When I hard code the number like below it works, but when I specify the column name its failing. With error
H110 Unable to submit statement. Error while compiling statement: FAILED: ParseException line 2:1 cannot recognize input near 'select' 'date_format' '(' in select clause [ERROR_STATUS]
Working:
select date_format(from_unixtime(unix_timestamp(cast('2014022817' as string),'yyyyMMddHH')),'yyyy-MM-dd HH');
Failing:
select
select date_format(from_unixtime(unix_timestamp(cast(date_column as string),'yyyyMMddHH')),'yyyy-MM-dd HH')
from
table1
Why are you repeating the select? Try this:
select date_format(from_unixtime(unix_timestamp(cast(date_column as string
),'yyyyMMddHH'
)
),'yyyy-MM-dd HH'
)
from table1

DB2 query error during the retrieval of a CLOB field

From Java I am doing the following query on DB2:
SELECT * FROM PRV_PRE_ACTIVATION WHERE TRANSACTION_ID = ?
The field TRANSACTION_ID is a VARCHAR of length 32. I set the parameter in the preparedStatement using the setString method.
I get the error:

Where the sqstate means "Capability is not supported by this version of the DB2 application requester, DB2 application server, or the combination of the two." But I don't use any strange functionality.
I have tried using an squ client the query:
SELECT * FROM PRV_PRE_ACTIVATION where transaction_id='A'
And it goes ok.
What is the cause of the problem?
UPDATE: The code where the statement is prepared:
s = con.prepareStatement(sSQL,
ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,
ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
Try changing to a specified list of columns in the select list -- my guess is you have a user defined column type (or some other type) which is not supported by your driver. For example, does the statement
SELECT TRANSACTION_ID FROM PRV_PRE_ACTIVATION WHERE TRANSACTION_ID = ?
work? If so then start adding columns in and you will find the problem column.
I've came across this problem lately, and after some searching on web, I've came across this link:
DB2 SQL error: SQLCODE: -270, SQLSTATE: 42997, SQLERRMC: 63
, which specifies this:
A column with a LOB type, distinct type on a LOB type, or
structured type cannot be specified in the select-list of an
insensitive scrollable cursor.
With help from an colleague, we came to this conclusion:
1, Q: When will you get this "SQLCODE=-204, SQLSTATE=42704" exception?
A: When a scrollable PreparedStatement is prepared & executed, yet there are [B|C]LOB fields exist in the select list. e.g.:
String strQuery = "SELECT NUMBER_FIELD, CHAR_FIELD, CLOB_FIELD FROM TABLE_NAME WHERE CONDITION IS TRUE;"
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, REsultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
rs = stmt.executeQuery(strQuery); //and this exception will be thrown here
2, Q: So what's the solution if we want to get rid of it when [B|C]LOB fields are queried?
A: Try to use ResultSet.TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY while creating the query statement.e.g.:
stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
Or simply try this one:
stmt = conn.createStatement();
Note that the same rules apply to conn.prepareStatement() too. You may refer to Java API doc for more information.
