Wakanda Studio (Ent. recent release), is crashing upon opening a project.
The answer to this problem has been posted on the Wakanda Forum, which I cannot access.
Make sure that you have full (read/write) access to the solution (.waSolution file, project folders, etc.).
Also make sure that the .waSolution file refers to existing .waProject and .waSettings files.
You can also clear the preference folders located at the following locations:
C:\Users{Name}\AppData\Roaming\Wakanda Studio
C:\Users{Name}\AppData\Roaming\Wakanda Server
C:\Users{Name}\AppData\Roaming\Wakanda Enterprise Studio
C:\Users{Name}\AppData\Roaming\Wakanda Enterprise Server
C:\Users{Name}\AppData\Local\Wakanda Studio
Rename the folders above when Wakanda is not running and then launch Wakanda to let the application recreate the default preference files.
The studio crashing bug was solved by creating a new project, and copying into it from the crashing project all the .js files, etc.

I am using Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Projects to make a setup file for my C# app and when I install my app it says:
Failed to update database because the database is read-only
Here is screenshot of my database in Microsoft SQL Management Studio that shows read-only is false.
Here is screenshot of my database file in installer that shows read-only is false.
Yet after installing my app I get error above.
Any idea?
Solved
While comments above were helpful but easiest solution for me that didn't require lots of editing and coding was to change Application Folder path to outside of Program Files (86) folder something like this
C:\[Manufacturer]\[ProductName]
Here is screenshot of where to change that path and everything works fine now
Now it will install on path like C:\My_Company\App_Name where there is no permission restrict for system to access database file.
I have a new .net Core 2.0 Web API project (In Visual Studio 2017 Version 15.3.5) where I can´t build the solution if I add a new database project.
error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\dotnet\sdk\2.0.0\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v11.0\SSDT\Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.SqlTasks.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk.
I have tried all kinds of solutions
Installed almost everything missing from the Visual Studio Installer
Installed Visual Studio Build Tools 2017
Repaired Visual Studio
Without luck I tried to find Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.SqlTasks.targets file on C:\ to the add reference to it in the project file (I then don´t know if that works while building the solution in VSTS).
So why can I add a database project to a normal API project and everything works just fine but not to a .net core one?
Do database projects not work with .net Core? I have searched for information on this but sorry I just can´t find it.
I´m not sure what to do. Hope somebody can help.
Ok I managed to find the Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.SqlTasks.targets file on my computer.
I then needed to unload the project and edit it
There I changed this line
<SSDTExists Condition="Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v$(VisualStudioVersion)\SSDT\Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.SqlTasks.targets')">True</SSDTExists>
to the hardcoded path of my file
<SSDTExists Condition="Exists('C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v14.0\SSDT\Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.SqlTasks.targets')">True</SSDTExists>
And now it builds on my computer and on VSTS.
But why this is like this I don´t know.
I was having the exact same issue building a SQL Server project on an Azure DevOps CI/CD pipeline, and locally on VS Code. On Azure DevOps none of the pre-built build tasks would work for me, and locally I could only compile the SQL Server project on Visual Studio, which was annoying. Your solution didn't work for me, after doing what you suggest, I would get a .dll missing error, related with the first error.
I solved this by avoiding to add a SQL Server project to the solution.
I achieved this by using an MSBuild SDK, capable of producing a SQL Server Data-Tier Application package (.dacpac) from the set of SQL scripts. By adding this second project to the solution, I managed to continue taking advantage of linking the project to a live database through SQL Server Object Explorer on Visual Studio. I gave a more detailed explanation about my implementation in this answer.
I am facing a strange problem. Some of my projects aren´t loading into visual basic 2010 express under windows 7. But when I log with an account that has administrator privileges i am able to load those projects, build and compile without any problems.
Thanks in advance
After deleting .suo file and bin and obj folders, and then rebooting the IDE could load again the projects. What was strange is that another project with the same problem was working again but i did not do anything.
I have been using Visual Studio 2010 Pro for my vb.net desktop application development. I publish the apps via clickonce to a web server with ftp. My settings look like this:
Publishing folder location: ftp://www.webaddress.com/folder/
Installation folder : http://webaddress.com/folder/
This works perfect in VS2010.
I am now trying to upgrade to Visual Studio 2015 community edition. When I try to publish my app, I get the error "The components for communicating with FTP servers are not installed". I am getting this error on both computers I have installed VS2015 on.
Strangely enough, there isn't much info on this error. The only solution I've seen is to repair the installation. I did this but still a no go.. Another cause I read about is having Xamarin installed, but I have never had that installed.
Has anybody run into this and know what the fix is??
EDIT:
It appears to not actually have anything to do with installed components. After I posted this question, I realized the publish via FTP had worked earlier on a little sample Hello World project i made (brain fart). It was only once I loaded my existing project that this error started showing up.
I closed the solution, created another simple project, and still got the error. I closed visual studio, reopened the sample project, and ftp worked! I then opened my existing project and ftp worked there too?! So I don't know what the trigger is, and I haven't had it fail again yet, but maybe this info will help figure out what is causing the failure.
EDIT (3/30/2017)
Just an update - I am still having this issue. This issue happens on visual studio 2013, 2015, and 2017. I have tried reinstalling the c++ redistributable, still nothing. It seems others are having this issue with a web project but mine is a desktop app publishing with clickonce via FTP. It must be something to do with solution I am working on that was originally created in 2010, as the issue is not present in any other project.
I had the same issue with Visual Studio 2017. What fixed it for me was to start the Visual Studio Installer and install the ".NET Core cross-platform development" workload.
I had the same issue in Visual Studio 2015 / Update 3. It was resolved after installing the 32-bit version of Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784)
See also https://github.com/aspnet/Tooling/issues/748
I had the same problem with Visual Studio 2015. And Publish used to work fine so I went going crazy looking for and trying different solutions. Then I read on another thread of doing a Setup-> Repair (submitted by Erikest). I did a Setup->Repair and the publish process now works! I think it's also possible that the Repair not only did the trick on the FTP components but also replaced the C++ redistributable (often mentioned as a solution to this problem),
This is a total work around, but I've noticed I get this error every time I open my app (that originated in VS2010) and try to publish without first opening a sample app. I created a new project and published it to my FTP server. When I receive this error, I close Visual studio, reopen and the open the sample project, publish that app, then open my real app. The publish then works.
This works every time, and seems to be a bug in Visual studio, and probably has something to do with the fact that my app was originally built in 2010.
Maybe this will help somebody else with the same issue. It's a big pain so hopefully MS gets a fix in for this.
I have been banging my head against this problem for many months, re-installed VS over and over and just did a clean install of Windows 10 in the hope it would work but to no avail. By chance I cleaned some old .accdb files from the App_Data folder that I no longer need since I converted to SQL Server database and FTP publishing now works.
So it seems VS does not like the .accdb files but was happy with .mdb files when publishing with FTP.
As soon as I put the file back in App_Data the problem returns. Hope this is some help.
I had the same issue here, I was using the Publish right click option on the project, which had been working fine. What fixed it for me was going back through the publish options and re-testing the connection. Publish seemed to work after that. Maybe it forgot a password or settings?
I also installed the x86 C++ Redistribution Package.
Hope this helps someone who is in the same boat.
After many successful website publishes with Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition, we experienced the "components for communicating with ftp servers are not installed" issue. :(
First attempt at resolution was uninstalling VS Community 2015, then installing VS Community 2017. Received the same error: "components for communicating with ftp servers are not installed" when attempting to publish our business website.
With some work, we found that by uninstalling Microsoft Web Deploy and re-installing, this seemed to fix the problem. We can now use Visual Studio > Publish function to our ftp without problems.
See this link for download of Microsoft Web Deploy components.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43717
Dont know what broke this VS IDE functionality, but hope this fix helps some.
I encountered the same error with Visual Studio 2019
I fixed it by using the Visual Studio Installer to install the Web Deploy (inc .netcore 2.1) under individual components
I just did a simple "repair installation" in the installer. Worked for me.
I am using Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2019 and had this problem for a while.
The problem went away after I updated about 10 NuGet updates that were over due.
I had the same problem, I closed all the open windows I closed Visual Studio and then I opened again and published and then it worked!
I have a small windows forms application created in Visual Studio 2012 that uses ReportViewer version 11.0.0.0.
The application target framework is .NET 4.0 and its deployment method is ClickOnce
On my PC it installs but on client machines, intallation fails with error
the application requires that assembly microsoft.reportviewer.processingObjectModel version 11.0.0.0 be installed in the global assembly cache first.
On the client machines, i have installed
.NET 4.0
ReportViewer 2010
Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 Runtime CTP
SQLSYSCLRTYPES.msi
in the project application files settings, i have set microsoft.reportviewer.processingObjectModel publish status to Include(Auto), in the references i have also set its Copy Local property to True.
what am i missing?
I have even followed the instructions here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms251723.aspx
Here is (arguably) the best way to deal with this issue... without downloading or installing any extras. This worked with Visual Studio 2012 (Ultimate)
Goto the main project within your solution(default/statup project)
Right Click and Click Properties / Select "Your Project">> Project>> Properties
Click on "Publish" Tab to see publishing options
Goto "Install Mode and Settings">> Click "Application Files" and Dialog opens
Go down and look for the items set with "Publish Status" > Prerequisite
You will find ReportViewer and Several Other Files set to Prerequisite
Change all the Publish Statuses to "Include" in the drop down
I know you only need the ReportViewer Only but this will eliminate other potential problems I came across
Now all the required files will be added to your installation setup good to go!
For interest, you can change include a desktop icon under "Install Mode and Settings">>Options>Mainfests>Create Desktop Short Cut
you are missing the ProcessingObjectModel.dll file find the version 11.0.0.0 in gac assembly C:\windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel and add it to bin dir.
We had the same issue, but the thing is, its automatically adding it to the references (microsoft.reportviewer.processingObjectModel), if u EXCLUDE it from the publishing properties(properties->publish->application files), It might fix it.
A better option would be to install the Microsoft Report Viewer 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package at:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6610
Your users will need to have this package installed as well. If you just copy and paste a MS DLL, you'll have to redeploy it every time you upgrade your application.
If you are using WinForms, to me it seems pointless to worry about installing this DLL in the GAC when it's being used for a report viewer that is deployed via click-once. This isn't a big file and you're probably using it as a report viewer control on a form, nothing more. One possible solution is to do the following:
In Visual Studio, go to the reference in your project for the assembly Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModeland locate the file path to the folder for that assembly. Mine was version 12 and so my file path was C:\windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel\12.0.0.0__89845dcd8080cc91
Copy the file path of the folder the assembly is in and remove the reference from your project (right click the reference and select "Remove").
Win + R to get a 'Run' prompt. Paste that folder path in there and execute to jump right into the folder of that DLL.
Find the DLL, it should be the only file in that folder, and copy it to your Visual Studio project folder. You shouldn't care about 100kb of extra space on your drive consumed, and I don't think this DLL is one you'll need to update.
Back in Visual Studio, right click References, Add Reference, and browse for that DLL in your project folder. After adding the reference, make sure that the Copy Local property is set to true.
Clean and rebuild, test the application on your local computer, than Deploy your ClickOnce again.
Now when users install your application with ClickOnce, the reference will not refer to the GAC at all and there won't be any need to rely on the prerequisite check/installation process for this DLL because you have included it directly in your published application.
It depends on the setup type you are using but basically, it means the required library is missing from your server or computer. To enable the application to download from the server (In a client-server architecture), you need to include the file(s) in the project.
Go to your application option and locate the "Publish" tab
Click on "Application files"
In the ensuing dialog, select to include all the libraries you want included (or that are required to run your application on the client machine and click "Ok")
Build your application and then publish to the server.
I hope this works for you, it worked for me in Visual Studio 2010 Professional
In case of Windows 10 it won't work installing Microsoft Report Viewer 2010 SP1 as describe by user1236560. First you need to install Prerequisites for SQL Server Management Objects (SQLSysClrTypes.msi) need to choose between x86 and x64 depending on your hardware. You could find it on: http://origin.www.ms.akadns.net/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=16BC778C-357B-46E9-8356-D575903AC831
After that you need to install MICROSOFT® REPORT VIEWER 2012 RUNTIME that you could find on: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35747
Both of this package will have to be installed.
I encountered this error
System Update Required
Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly
Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel Version 11.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first.
Please contact your system administrator.
this error popped out when installing an application made from Visual Studio
meaning I am one of the client
I have Visual Studio 2015 and a Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and didn't know about Crystal Reports and other related stuff to it. I do check the version of my .NET Framework which is version 4.6.2.
I have several extension files and distributable files downloaded and yet doesn't solve my problem.
I do not know if I solve the problem generally but I do become successful in installing the application
so I downloaded and installed the ff:
SAP Crystal Report for Visual Studio 2015(latest, just to make sure)
Microsoft System CLR Types for Microsoft SQL Server 2012
Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 Runtime.
the problem took me about 2 days to trouble shoot, Be careful on downloading and installing extension files and distributed files cause it will munch some space too.
The Best answer is:
