i would like to ask u if there is a way to navigate through sql data with combobox. I want to "download" data form DB to standard item model, choose one column and use it in combobox. When user chose one name it will give me proper id in model->DB id and allow me to chose data to show.
for ex. row with bike name, built_year, wheel size etc and show only its name in combobox, when it get chosen then show rest data in table
i'm just asking is this a good way or just dead end.
Yes, you can.
You can use QSqlQueryModel or QSqlTableModel to get the database data into a item model.
Than you can set the model to the combobox using QComboBox::setModel().
You can choose which column display in the combobox using QComboBox::setModelColumn()

I have created a form in MS Access. The corresponding tables for these forms have zero attributes. I simply created a blank form and manually inserted text boxes, labels, check boxes, etc. Now I would like to capture specific information that is entered into the form. How would I go about this in MS Access? Do I need to write some VB code to say "record whatever value the user puts in the field for serial number" for example? There is no preexisting data in any tables.
A user will manually fill out the form in Access, I would like to capture the data that the user inputs.
Bind the table to the form and then bind the controls to the fields of the table.
Or, the easy route: Mark the table in the navigation pane, then click in the band: Create and then Form, and it will do the dirty work.
I have a ComboBox that has columns: Name, Nickname, and Code in it. Currently, it is set up to search based on Name as the user types in the ComboBox when the user would prefer to type the Code instead. Is there a way to set it up so the ComboBox displays like it is originally set up while allowing the user to search using the Code column? I know that I can easily put the Code column in front of the Name column, but the user would like to keep the format the same.
Simple answer: No. A combo box control will always search (autocomplete) the displayed value, which will be the first row source column with a non-zero width. The only way to achieve what you want would be to have two controls. You could have a combo box with Code as the first column followed by Name and Nickname, and then have a locked text box with Control Source set to =myCombo.Column(1)
I have a database in access for which I made some forms, which is going pretty well.
I only have one small issue I am running into.
I have this form on which I have several comboboxes, which get their Row source from another table. That is working fine.
But for combobox B I wanted the options limited/filtered based on the selection in combobox A. So I filled the following in the row source of combobox B:
SELECT JOBS.Numbers
FROM JOBS
WHERE CITY = Me.CITY
So there is another combobox on the same before where the CITY is picked.
Now when open combobox B it asks me to fill in the city manually and then it filters/limits the options in the way I want. However, I want this to happen automatically based on the selection in combobox A (on the same form).
I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance.
I find this feature very useful. For example I have a form where project managers select there name from a combobox(A) then in the next box(B) select their project. B uses the criteria from the first box to only list their projects.
Specifically the project table I pull the list from has an owner field. I use the name entered into A as criteria on the Owner to pull just their projects.
On the combobox query build I input the Owner criteria like this. The query runs then with whatever data is entered into boxA.
Forms![Main]![cboOwner]
On the first combo box "After Update" event add Me.ComboboxB.Requery. That will make combo box B refresh its contents based on the current value of combo box A every time A's value is changed.
I'm new to lightswitch and i searched lot, but couldn't find proper solution for this simple question. I need to add items to combo box, based on user selection. ( not from existing table)
For example if user select country ,following towns must add to combo box.
USA - Texas, New York etc
UK - London , Surrey
How can i do this? i'm using vb.net as my back end. i found this article How to create an unbound combobox as useful one. but couldn't able work according to my scenario.
what is the way to add items to combo box?
In Lightswitch, if you want to have a dynamic set of data bound to a control, that data must be in a table. You then need to create a query that filters the data in that table based on the user's selection and bind your control to that query.
Here is a pair of articles that describes implementing a situation that is similar to yours:
Nested AutoCompleteBox for data entry
Nested AutoCompleteBox for data entry Part 2
We can't directly assign our own values to combo box. we have to use either data table ( as mentioned by embedded.kyle ) or we have to create custom control to assign values.
i have used custom User Control for above scenario. detail step that i followed can be found in following Link
Adding a record that doesn't already exist in a bound table is a very common scenario. Unfortunately, there's no out-of-the-box way to do this in LightSwitch, you simply have to write code to achieve it, like in this blog post.
Add non existent records using AutoCompleteBox
Or, of course as was also suggested, you could create a custom control to do the job.
I am trying to create a combo box in an Access form to display all the types in an inventory list (ex. cables, UPS, shelves, ...)
When I make the row source for the ComboBox I only want the type to display there once. The ComboBox will later be used to make a report for the different types of items in the inventory, so I will only need each type in the list box once. These types can be changed later so I want the list to be updated automatically.
Right now I have the ListBox displaying all the types multiple times, but when I try to change the row source to:
Select Distinct Inv_Type
From Inventory;
I just get an empty ComboBox. But when I query that code I get get each type only once (this is what I want). What am I doing wrong? Why am I getting an empty ComboBox?
Doing as what Remou said; I created a ComboBox from scratch, without using the wizard first fixed my problem. Thanks!
