I was trying to migrate a VS Project from TFS 2013 on Premise to Visual Studio Team Services. Unfortunately i had an issue:
OH-SCM-009: Error occurred while sync. TF10131: The workspace name
OH_6_14572940012671457294001269-Diego Italo Castillo Castillo87664
contains more than 64 characters, contains one of the following
characters: "/:<>\|*?; or ends with a space. Type a valid name and
try again.
I was trying to migrate a project (Source Code Only) for about 8 hours and i was getting the error in an specific Changueset.
I cant find the real problem.
I Attached logs.

Visual studio 2019 Test is failing with error "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): This program is blocked by group policy

I had recently upgraded to Visual studio 2019 from 2017. The tests (xunit) was working fantastic until this update. But after updating, when i run my tests it just says "Outcomes Not Run".!!! strange, even it doesn't shows any details of any error under Output window, later found we have to manually change
"Show output from: " drop-down in Output window to "Tests" to see that. I got these details as below
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x89710016): Unable to start program C:\Users\bb00001\.nuget\packages\microsoft.testplatform.testhost\16.5.0\build\netcoreapp2.1\x64\testhost.exe.
This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator.
Since I works in a very restrictive environment, understood i cant run any exes under that location since GP restriction. But got access to particular locations under C Drive.
Is there anyway I can change my testhost.exe file location? which visual studio can pickup the exe from a configured path?
After referring the link https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/nuget/consume-packages/managing-the-global-packages-and-cache-folders,
I had set an environmental variable like below, where i set a new nuget-package source which my group policy allows me to run applications
This will automatically override the default location to newly setup location. Later restart the visual studio and rebuild the solution, it must add all the dependencies to new location. It worked for me. Not sure this issue will occur to anyone else, but maybe helpful, if someone with need.

USQL Unit testing with ADL tools for VS 2017 - Error after upgrading to 2.3.4000.x

One of the team member after upgrading the ADL tools for VS to version 2.3.4000.x, getting the below error..
Error : (-1,-1) 'E_CSC_SYSTEM_INTERNAL: Internal error!
The ObjectManager found an invalid number of fixups.
This usually indicates a problem in the Formatter.'
Compile failed!
Tried to downgrade back to version ( 2.3.3000.2 ), it didn't help much.
If encountered similar issue, found the reason and resolved it, please share it.
After trying out few unsuccessful options, decided to clean up the files in USQLDataRoot including localrunmetadata and catalog folder. Still, when I submit a job to create a database, there was no error, but it didn’t create the database.
We had some powershell scripts to setup the database and other objects. Ran the powershell script, which created the database and procedures. Then we were able to run the tests successfully. One more thing to double check, make sure build platform is set to “x64”.

Windows Mobile Compact Framework Build Error: CAB file … could not be created

I get the following error when trying to build a .CAB in visual studio on my new PC. The source is identical. The Registry warnings are not present on the old PC either.
Windows CE CAB Wizard
Warning: Section [RegKeys] has no data
Warning: Section [DefaultInstall] key "AddReg" - there are no section entries to process
Error: CAB file "D:\Dev\...\MyProject.CAB" could not be created
ERROR: The Windows CE CAB Wizard encountered an error. See the output window for more information.
No other errors show in the build log for the cabwiz.exe build step.
Any suggestions?
Move the source code to C: drive and build it there, instead of D: drive.
It appears that when cabwiz.exe (Visual Studio) is installed on C: drive, it does not like building projects on D: drive.
Similar issues with network drives noted at http://windowsmobilepro.blogspot.co.uk/2005/11/error-cab-file-could-not-be-created-no.html
Finally I found an answer. All my problems comes from the 8.3 file name generation.
You have to check two thing.
Registry key NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation under
HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/FileSystem
Valid values are:
0 - Disable 8.3 name generation
1 - Enable 8.3 name generation
2 - Name generation will be evaulated by volume settings
Matty Brown suggested the following (not tested, but may help):
Valid values are (Windows 10 1809):
0 - Enable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes on the system
1 - Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes on the system
2 - Set 8dot3 name creation on a per volume basis
3 - Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes except the system volume
Volume based settings.
You need an admin command prompt. Check 8.3 name generation with
fsutil 8dot3name query d:
where "d:" is your volume
If the result inform you that your volume has disabled 8.3 name generation, you can set it easily with
fsutil 8dot3name set d:
Two more step is needed. You need a restart, and you have to move files from there and move it back to the original place.
The 8.3 name generation linked to the file operations.
Thats all.
I'm happy now with my new W10 ultrabook with VS2008 and a big WinCe 6 solution.
I know it's a bit too late, but I'll leave this tip for future visits:
Check for whitespaces in Solution & CAB project paths, and also in file names.
I ran into this error while trying to build a legacy CAB project on our new TFS Build Server running Windows 2012. Ironically, the script to build the mobile app and CAB project worked fine on my local development machine, but go the vague "Windows CE CAB Wizard Error: CAB file XXXXXX could not be created" error when I ran it on the build server, via both a TFS build definition or manually.
The article previously mentioned at http://windowsmobilepro.blogspot.co.uk/2005/11/error-cab-file-could-not-be-created-no.html was very thorough and helpful. I used the SUBST trick to shorten the project path and eliminate the spaces in the path names, and the script could then run on TFS / Win2012.

How can I fix these errors from Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone?

I am in Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone, and have followed the MiniBrowser Tutorial located at the following link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/windowsphone/develop/ff402526(v=vs.105).aspx
After following all the instructions, once I get to "Run Your App" portion of the instructions, under step 1, Build, the following errors are generated:
Error 1 The name "LocalizedStrings" does not exist in the namespace "clr-namespace:MiniBrowser". c:\users\avery_000\documents\visual studio 2012\Projects\MiniBrowser\MiniBrowser\App.xaml 1 1 MiniBrowser
Error 2 The name "LocalizedStrings" does not exist in the namespace "clr-namespace:MiniBrowser". c:\users\avery_000\documents\visual studio 2012\Projects\MiniBrowser\MiniBrowser\App.xaml 10 9 MiniBrowser
Error 3 The build stopped unexpectedly because of an internal failure.

What do these errors mean?
Looks like when Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone installed on my computer, it put the project folder onto the same hard drive as the application. For some reason, the solution in order to get this to compile, was to recreate the project on a different hard drive, and work from there.
Thanks everyone for your assistance!

symstore error when running TFS 2010 build

Background:
I have several builds running on a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine via TFS2010. All of these build definitions have the Path to Publish Symbols set to "\\server\SymbolStore" and the builds run fine.
(Note - I have inherited this set up from a former employee, and I also have other builds running on a separate 2K8 machine that also run without issue)
I am now migrating these builds to a new Windows 2008 R2 build server using the same settings.
Problem:
When running the builds on the new build machine, everything is working fine until the build tries to run the "Publish Symbols" activity in the workflow, at which point I get the error
SYMSTORE ERROR: Class: Server. Desc: Couldn't connect to server.
Error 5: Access is denied. TF270015: 'symstore.exe' returned an
unexpected exit code. Expected '0'; actual '5'.
which also sets the build status to Partially Succeeded.
I have searched the web for these error messages to no avail so far, so does anyone know what might be causing this and how to get it working again?
As always, thanks in advance
Did you check the folder has the right permissions for the service account that is used by Team Build to create/write files ?
Turns out that after I had set up the new build machine, I had left the Credentials for the Build Service Properties (found in the Team Foundation Server Administration Console/Build Configuration) to its default setting which is "NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService". Once I had changed this to use the build service account, the builds are able to write to the symbol store properly
