I need help with redirecting from subdomain to folder.
I've tried this
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^subdomain.company.com
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://company.com/subdomain/$1 [L,NC,QSA]
but I can't get it work.
Here is htaccess I'm working with - I'd rather not change the existing rewrite rules, so I'm putting the new rewrite condition right after RewriteEngine on
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^\.]+)\.([^\.]*)$
RewriteRule (.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L,NE]
# maximally two redirects
RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=2
# whatever domain
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-zA-Z0-9]+).([a-zA-Z0-9-]+).([a-zA-Z]+)$
# Condition to distinguish final URL - prevention of endless loop
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} !^(.*)redirect=1(.*)$ [NC]
# path to file: /domain/path
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /%2.%3/$1?redirect=1&%{QUERY_STRING}
What could be the problem?

I couldn't find a question that answered mine, or maybe I couldn't search using the right terms, but come on. I have the following rule in my htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.com\.br$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.domain\.com\.br$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ "https\:\/\/www\.domain\.com\.br\/site" [R=301,L]
This works when the user enters only the URL (domain.com.br or www.domain.com.br), but I need it to redirect when the user accesses this way:
domain.com.br or www.domain.com.br --> https://www.domain.com.br/site
domain.com.br/XXX --> https://www.domain.com.br/XXX
What rule should I use for this?
Update: the server already has a default rule to force SSL, in which case it is unnecessary to put it in htaccess
Rule update:
**On virtual host:**
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^ https://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
**On htaccess file:**
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.com\.br$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.domain\.com\.br$
RewriteRule ^/?$ https://www.domain.com.br/site/ [R=301,L]
Your code generates a redirect loop. Also, you don't need to escape slashes on targets.
You could merge everything inside your virtual host block (faster than using a htaccess):
RewriteEngine On
# force https
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [NC]
RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
# force www
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^ https://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
# redirect root directory to /site/
RewriteRule ^/?$ /site/ [R=301,L]
Of course, you will see a redirect chain for e.g. http://domain.tld/ as it will first redirect to https://domain.tld/ then to https://www.domain.tld/ and finally to https://www.domain/tld/site/. This is fine. However, if you really want to handle everything with only one redirect, you could. But, it will be less generic.
For instance, you would end up with those rules:
RewriteEngine On
# force root directory to /site/ (https+www)
RewriteRule ^/?$ https://www.domain.com.br/site/ [R=301,L]
# force any other pages to https+www if not the case already
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^ https://www.domain.com.br%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
I have 2 domains:
gyanplease.com/gyanplease primary domain (I have changed the document root with the help of .htaccess)
mobiledevsolutions.com secondary domain
On the document root I have created a folder called gyanplease and with the help of .htaccess I have rewritten gyanplease.com to the gyanplease the folder. This the code for the redirection:
#disable https
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteRule (.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !gyanplease/
RewriteRule (.*) /gyanplease/$1 [L]
Now when I'm hosting another domain on the same server, that is mobiledevsolutions.com, then it's not working and gives a 404 redirection error.
What you can do is only run the /gyanplease/ rewrite for that host, like this (replacing the last two lines):
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} (?:^|\.)gyanplease.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/gyanplease/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /gyanplease/$1 [L]
That way this rule will only affect gyanplease.com.
You can also change line 4 to this, since the capturing is not being used:
RewriteRule ^ http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
So all that would make your new rules:
RewriteEngine on
# Disable HTTPS
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteRule ^ http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
# Rewrite gyanplease.com to /gyanplease/
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} (?:^|\.)gyanplease.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/gyanplease/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /gyanplease/$1 [L]
I would like to redirect from example.com/profile.php?UserName=xxxx to xxxx.example.com
xxxx contains a-z or 0-9.
I have tried bunch of codes to do it (some from this site) but none of them worked as I wanted it to be. Here is my current code:
RewriteEngine on
#this should redirect example.com/profile.php?UserName=x to x.site.com
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !www.example.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-z0-9-_]+).example.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) %1/$1 [QSA,L]
#if link does not contain subdomain add www
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
You need to put all of your redirect rules before your internal routing rules. The rules with the R flag redirect.
RewriteEngine on
# This redirects the browser to include the "www"
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
# This redirects the browser when profile.php is directly accessed
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \ /+profile\.php\?UserName=([a-z0-9-_]+)
RewriteRule ^ http://%1.example.com/? [L,R]
# this internally routes the XXX.example.com to the profile.php script
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !www.example.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-z0-9-_]+).example.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^$ /profile.php?UserName=%1 [QSA,L]
Since there was not a good answer here.. In order to rename a php file and use the subdomain extention.. I had to edit my DNS settings.. This tutorial helped :http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/server/apache/mod-rewrite/subdomains.html
I'm trying to setup a rewrite rule so that any text in place of a subdomain will be parameter one and any text after the first forward slash will be parameter two but I'm struggling with regex and am unsure about rewrite terminology.
For example, if someone requested:
joebloggs.mydomain.com
I would like them to see:
mydomain.com/index.php?site=joebloggs
Also, if someone requested:
joebloggs.mydomain.com/contact
I would like them to see:
mydomain.com/index.php?site=joebloggs&page=contact
By "see" I mean see the page, rather than see the URL - it's a CMS-like project so you can probably see where I'm going with it. Also, I've worked out how to remove www. so that's not an issue :)
EDIT
Current .htaccess is:
RewriteEngine On
# Remove trailing slash
RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ $1 [L]
# Remove www
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.richardmjenkins.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://richardmjenkins.com/$1 [R=301,L]
# Rewrite for site/page pair
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*)\.richardmjenkins\.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !p.php
RewriteRule ^(.+/)?([^/]*)$ p.php?s=%1&p=$2 [QSA,L,NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*)\.richardmjenkins\.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !p.php
RewriteRule ^$ p.php?s=%1 [QSA,L,NC]
1. In your host panel : add a subdomain with name : * for enable all subdomains
2. this is your htaccess code :
RewriteEngine On
Options +Followsymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*)\.mydomain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^$ index.php?site=%1 [QSA,L,NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*)\.mydomain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/?$ index.php?site=%1&page=$1 [QSA,L,NC]
Enable mod_rewrite and .htaccess through httpd.conf and then put this code in your .htaccess under DOCUMENT_ROOT directory:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
# Turn mod_rewrite on
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^((?!www)[^.]+)\.(mydomain\.com)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^$ index.php?site=%1 [L,QSA]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^((?!www)[^.]+)\.(mydomain\.com)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php?site=%1&page=%2 [L,QSA]
Is it possible to use .htaccess to rewrite a sub domain to a directory?
Example:
http://sub.domain.example/
shows the content of
http://domain.example/subdomains/sub/
Try putting this in your .htaccess file:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^sub.domain.example
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subdomains/sub/$1 [L,NC,QSA]
For a more general rule (that works with any subdomain, not just sub) replace the last two lines with this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*)\.domain\.example
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ subdomains/%1/$1 [L,NC,QSA]
I'm not a mod_rewrite expert and often struggle with it, but I have done this on one of my sites. It might need other flags, etc., depending on your circumstances. I'm using this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^subdomain\.example\.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subdomains/subdomain
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subdomains/subdomain/$1 [L]
Any other rewrite rules for the rest of the site must go afterwards to prevent them from interfering with your subdomain rewrites.
You can use the following rule in .htaccess to rewrite a subdomain to a subfolder:
RewriteEngine On
# If the host is "sub.domain.example"
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^sub.domain.example$ [NC]
# Then rewrite any request to /folder
RewriteRule ^((?!folder).*)$ /folder/$1 [NC,L]
Line-by-line explanation:
RewriteEngine on
The line above tells the server to turn on the engine for rewriting URLs.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^sub.domain.example$ [NC]
This line is a condition for the RewriteRule where we match against the HTTP host using a regex pattern. The condition says that if the host is sub.domain.example then execute the rule.
RewriteRule ^((?!folder).*)$ /folder/$1 [NC,L]
The rule matches http://sub.domain.example/foo and internally redirects it to http://sub.domain.example/folder/foo.
Replace sub.domain.example with your subdomain and folder with name of the folder you want to point your subdomain to.
I had the same problem, and found a detailed explanation in http://www.webmasterworld.com/apache/3163397.htm
My solution (the subdomains contents should be in a folder called sd_subdomain:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} subdomain\.domain\.example
RewriteCond $1 !^sd_
RewriteRule (.*) /sd_subdomain/$1 [L]
This redirects to the same folder to a subdomain:
.httaccess
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^\.]+)\.domain\.example$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain\.example/subdomains/%1
Try to putting this .htaccess file in the subdomain folder:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)?$ ./subdomains/sub/$1
It redirects to http://example.org/subdomains/sub/, when you only want it to show http://sub.example.org/.
Redirect subdomain directory:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.(archive\.example\.com)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://%2/%1%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
For any sub domain request, use this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.band\.s\.example
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(.*)\.band\.s\.example
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/([a-zA-Z0-9-z\-]+)
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /%1/$1 [L]
Just make some folder same as sub domain name you need.
Folder must be exist like this: domain.example/sub for sub.domain.example.
Edit file .htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
