I try compile erl files in Intellij with Erlang plugin. Everything is good with compilation but in out/production the folder does not create any files .beam and when I run console I get message:
exception error: undefined function.
When I use c("file"). everything is all right. Why does Intellij not create .beam files?
Try to fix it by going to Preferences -> Build, Execution, Deployment -> Erlang Compiler and check "Compile project with rebar".
Also, verify that rebar is installed and configured in IntelliJ by going to Preferences -> Other Settings -> Erlang External Tools and specifying the path to the rebar installation.
I was having the same issue ..
The problem is very strange erlang plugin doesn't compile and copy the files to out directories meanwhile if you compiled from terminal or command prompt (windows) it is working fine. this issue arose after installing IntelliJ Idea v 15.
What I have done here to fix the issue:
Uninstall Intellij Idea v 15
Downgrade IntelliJ Idead to version 14.1.4
Install Intellij Idea again (v. 0.5.11)
Configure SDK to reference src of erlang language.
Create a new test project and start making the project again .. it should work fine...
Hope this helps you

My IntelliJ Version is IntelliJ IDEA 2022.1.2 (Community Edition)
For over an year, I have been working on a maven project which uses a customized ibm-jdk8 and a customized maven installation.
So I've configured global maven runner & import settings & project & module SDK settings to use this custom JDK.
All this setup had been working fine for over an year.
Yesterday, I updated IDEA to newer version, I'm not sure what was the reason but I started getting wired IDE errors.
So I invalidated the cache and restarted the IDE,
When that did not solve the issues, I manually deleted following folders
All ~/AppData/*/JetBrains folders .
.idea folder inside project root.
project-name.iml file inside project root.
After that I updated all intelliJ setting same as above, but
Since then I've been getting Cannot resolve symbol 'String'
Strangely all other JDK classes are detected, but in whole code String is not working.
It's a known issue specific to IBM JDK.
The workaround is to manually add vm.jar file from JDK_HOME\jre\bin\default\jclSC180\vm.jar to the SDK classpath tab in IntelliJ IDEA.
I have been trying to run junit test but facing this issue constantly. I tried to look for answers on the internet but nothing helped.

If there is an error e.g.
"CommandLineWrapper is ill-suited for launching apps on Java 9+..."
Then, try the following workaround in IntelliJ IDEA:
Run -> Edit configurations -> select the failed running config -> Shorten command line: #argfile (Java 9+) -> OK
For IntelliJ 2019 and above go to :
Settings-> Build,Execution,Deployment -> Build Tools -> Maven -> Running Tests and
Uncheck argLine
I had same issue but it has been resolved by updating the Intellij latest version 2020.3. Now i am able to run the test without any error. Please check below link for latest Intellij versions
https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/
I had previously installed zulu and Oracle Java and then switched between the two quite a bit.
I ended up having many JDKs
Here's what helped me.
In intelliJ, go to Run, the Edit Configurations.
In the Run/Debug Configurations window, under Build and run section, select 'Java Bundled'.
To make sure this applies for all tests, click on the edit template icon (the spanner), select JUnit and then in the Build and run section select 'java Bundled'
Make sure all the configurations under JUnit has 'java Bundled' as well
Click Apply and Ok. Try to run the tests now and it should probably work.
For me the problem was that I had some incompatible/old dependencies in my SBT project.
I updated the versions of every 3rd party in the SBT config and running ZIO tests in IntelliJ started working.
For me also, the problem was that I made a change in the dependecies and the dependecy updated was incompatible in the SBT project.
I have updated my IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate to the 2016.2 version.
I had a Grails 3 project and now when I open the IDE I get the following error when trying to run my project:
Error running Grails: My_Project: Grails application is not found
I can still open the terminal and run the project manually, but it seems that IntelliJ IDEA no longer recognises my Grails application. When going to "Edit configurations...", in "Application" it says "[none]" and I can't select anything.
Grails Version: 3.1.9
Groovy Version: 2.4.7
JVM Version: 1.8.0_66
A Simple solution to this is to refresh the gradle projects.
You can do this by popping out the little gradle tab and hitting the "Refresh All Gradle Projects"
I run into the same problem always when i restart intellij. Running grails clean command from the terminal fixed it.
First, re-import the project into IntelliJ 2016.2. Choose the build.gradle file for the import. Use the gradle wrapper or a local gradle installation, where you have given IntelliJ the path to the locally installed Gradle. Let IntelliJ re-index everything. Wait until you see no further indexing on the bottom of the screen.
Second, run the application once, with no edit configuration. After this completes with error, you should be able to choose Run -> Edit Configuration / Application.
Third, you can go into the project pane to the grails-app/init/app-name/Application.groovy file and right-click on that and choose Run. After that, an edit configuration will be created.
Finally, you can try to invalidate cache and restart. (This has nothing to do with Edit Configuration, but sometimes the gradle and/or .idea caches get out of sync.)
I had the same problem after updating to IntelliJ Ultimate 2019.2.
It seems that the "little gradle tab" of the accepted answer no longer exists.
The reason in my case was that the Gradle Plugin had been disabled by the update process.
Resolution: Hit Help > Find Action > Type gradle. You should see a line "Gradle" and a ON-OFF switch at the end of that line.
Enable it and restart IntelliJ solved my problem.
Each time I attempt to create a new IntelliJ 14.1.4 project on Windows with Gradle integration I receive the following error during the 'Make' command when I have any Groovy source files included in the project...
Error:Cannot compile Groovy files: no Groovy library is defined for module 'GradleCommandLine'
I have tried:
Creating a Gradle project through the new project wizard in IntelliJ, choosing Groovy as a an 'Additional Library'
Creating a new Gradle project outside of IntelliJ using the gradle init --type groovy-library command, then opening IntelliJ which finds the gradle.build file and automatically links to the project
Converting an existing project that was working with the IvyIDEA plugin to a Gradle build
I have tried adding (made sure) my groovy-all library as a 'Global Library' within the project structure
Each of these gave me the same 'Cannot compile Groovy files' error.
What does work:
I can run the gradle war command which compiles correctly and I can deploy the build war to an application server (in my case Tomcat 7.0.47)
However in watching the Getting Started with Gradle in IntelliJ IDEA 13 (they do not have one for IntelliJ 14) demo video, they are able to just run the standard 'Make' and add the unexploded war as a build artifact.
Also had a colleague using the Mac version of IntelliJ 14.1.4 do the same 'I have tried' attempts above and he did not run into any issues. They even imported the same project I was having issues with and it was able to do the 'Make' without any changes to settings.
Pointing to local Gradle installation solved issue. There was an issue with a corporate proxy preventing the Gradle distribution from installing properly.
I can run gradle from a command line to see its version.
I can run, compile and debug a grails app in IntelliJ (version 10.0 or version 10.2)
I installed the IntelliJ Gradle Plugin.
Whenever I try to do anything with gradle from within Intellij I get an error as follows:
Executing command: "tasks"
Failed to connect to gradle process for command 'tasks'
ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA 10.0\jre
Please set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the
location of your Java installation.
But in my environment I have JAVA_HOME set to the proper JDK in a different directory. Plus when I look in IntelliJ for the project, it also shows the JDK in the proper JDK location. I cannot find anything that attempts to point the JDK to the Intellij JRE location.
Any ideas please?
IntelliJ uses its own jre.
to force IntelliJ to use it, you need to set the environment variable IDEA_JDK to point to your JDK.
then simply restart intellij and gradle gui plugin should now work.
Man I had so much trouble with this as well, and I don't remember having this much trouble before. I think they changed something. Here are the incantations which got it working for me on Mac OS X 10.11.5, both with Java and Gradle on IntelliJ 2016.1
Here's the summary: install the latest Java JDK from Oracle, add the java_home value to $JAVA_HOME and set that value to $IDEA_HOME (IntelliJ's variable for defining which JDK to use), install gradle (optional) using homebrew, then define the project SDK in IntelliJ.
Here it is broken down from the very beginning of a clean install:
1. Download Java from Oracle's Download Page
2. Use homebrew to install gradle
IntelliJ ships with its own version of Gradle, so this is really optional, and is helpful if you want to use Gradle outside of IntelliJ.
`brew update && brew install gradle`
3. Set the env variables
Paste the following into ~/.profile. These values will work regardless of which version of java or gradle you have installed. Don't set the GRADLE_HOME if you didn't install the standalone gradle.
export JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/libexec/java_home)
export IDEA_JDK=$JAVA_HOME
export GRADLE_HOME=/usr/local/opt/gradle/libexec
4. Set the environment variable to occur at application launch so that IntelliJ sees is using OS X's launchctl program:
launchctl setenv JAVA_HOME $(/usr/libexec/java_home)
5. Define the project SDK
Use the project settings window in IntelliJ to define the project SDK (I don't see this option anywhere else in the global IntelliJ preferences window, this has to be done in the project settings).
6. Wait for the indexes to update, then close and re-open IntelliJ. You should now be able to build the program.
if you are using Intellij version 10.x you should not install any Plugin to run a gradle script.
All you have to do is to go to the Gradle setup (File -> Settings -> Gradle) and set the Gradle Home folder (the location of your Gradle installation, eg. C:\tools\gradle).
You should be able to select a Gradle build file and run it.
Point your JAVA_HOME to JDK, not to JRE.
I think this error might be caused by an install bug with IntelliJ IDEA. When I look at the installed folder referred to in the error message on my filesystem:
C:\Program Files (x86)\JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA 10.0\jre
I see the jre folder but then another jre folder beneath that one which contains the bin and lib folders of the jre:
jre
jre
bin
lib
I copied bin and lib up a level into the first jre folder, and that fixed this error for me.
