I'm a starting VB programmer, and I have been trying to loop through menu items, but this error always comes up:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripMenuItem'
to type 'System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem'.

Set the correct Type for mnuItem. You are using a System.Windows.Forms.MenuItem instead of the correct type, which is System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripMenuItem. As you can tell there are different kinds of MenuItems, so you must specify the correct Type. Also, since this code only returns Nothing it would be better suited as a Sub Routine.

So, here it goes. To start, A disclaimer, I understand that MS Access is not built for this kind of work. It is my only option at this time.
I have done just a bit of Automation using UIAutomationClient and I have successfully used its other features, however I cannot for the life of me get it to subscribe to events.
Normally, it is supposed to be a bit like this:

Yet when I attempt this, I get the error "expected end of statement" on the line:
FocusHandler = new IUIAutomationFocusChangedEventHandler(onFocusChanged)
additionally, if I leave off the (onFocusChanged) I get the error "Invalid use of new Keyword".
It seems like I am missing a reference somewhere. The usual drop down when using "new" does not contain the IUI handler classes though they are in the object library.
I am not sure if there is just some piece I am not accounting for in the code since I am using vba, but all examples seem to be for .net or C#/C++. Any help would be appreciated.
Additionally, I have no problem finding the element in question and all other pieces work fine. If you need any other pieces of the code let me know.

After two years this probably isn't relevant any more, but perhaps somebody else encounters this problem... The answer is to create a new class that implements the HandleAutomationEvent method.
Here I created a class named clsInvokeEventHandler and (importantly) set the Instancing property to PublicNotCreatable:

ActivePresentation.Slides(4).ToggleButton1.Value = 0
is correct; I've just tested it and it works.
Are you actually calling the Sub at any point though? Simply naming it Start() is not enough.

I had an issue calling this

Getting the error Method or data member not found which im assuming is a scope issue. The VBA editor doesnt autocomplete .ToggleButton1 which supports the error i was getting.
So, it appears im referencing the object incorrectly.
To correct this I have done the following.

I have been looking through old code to get familiar with the system I use and found a piece of code that I feel can be used better.
What goes on here is some data gets added to the collection(around 150 string variables, some with two variables(variableName/VariableValue), most with only one(VariableName)). It will try to set a module level string variable to the item of the collection passing it the index(variableName) then if there's a value setting the VariableVAlue to the module level variable.
What I feel needs work is that if the collection is passed a variable and the variable doesn't have a value it will return a "" which would cause a runtime error hence there's a On Error GoTo Handler code to manually add a "" to the collection. I feel there's a better way to do this rather than knowing there will be a runtime issue then solving it after catching it. Would there be a way to have a return "" not throw an exception or would the use of an Array also work here since it's a "collection" as well?

When i run the program, i got this error "Variables are required" (not sure, i'm working on a japanese version of excel). Sub CommandButton1_Click is highlighted and code is selected inside CommandButton1_Click. Can't figure out why, though it must be simple...
You're trying to return a result from a Sub. Try declaring it as a function instead, as this is able to return values to the caller:

If it makes it any clearer, on my English version the error message is:
Expected Function or variable
Does the code include Option Explicit? Perhaps the error translates to "Variable declaration required"? Try removing option explicit - if that fixes it remove that line, then go through checking all variables are declare (e.g. dim current_y as string).

This time, however, I'm trying to figure out how to get an object at run time from a string.
For example, let's say I have a string with the following data: Worksheets("RAW DATA").Range("A1").QueryTable.
Here's what I might try to do where the data above is the input for strParam below:

Active Scripting Engine can help you. Instantiate ScriptControl ActiveX, use .AddObject() method to add reference to Excel's Application object to the script control's execution environment, set the third parameter to True to make all Application's members accessible too. Then just use .Eval() method to evaluate any property or method, which is the Application's member. The example below shows evaluation of Worksheets() property:

If you are on 64-bit Office, this answer may help you to get ScriptControl to work.
This time you're out of luck. There is no VBA equivalent of eval (not in Excel anyway...there is in Access VBA).
(Application.Evaluate() evaluates strings as Excel expressions, not as VBA code.)
There's the "Evaluate" method (or [ ] brackets). I don't think it will do exactly what you expect - as in run VBA code found in a string. You can look it up in the VBA help menu.
