I am using a UITableViewController and didSelectRowAtIndexPath like so:
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
NSString *type = [[self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"Type"];
if([type isEqualTOString: #"PDF"]){
//GOTO View Controller
}else{
NSArray *elements = [[[self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"Name"] componentsSeparatedByString:#"FTP\\"];
currentPath = [[[[self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"Name"] componentsSeparatedByString:#"FTP\\"] lastObject];
NSString *escapedString = [elements[1] stringByAddingPercentEncodingWithAllowedCharacters:[NSCharacterSet URLHostAllowedCharacterSet]];
self.tableData = [dataSource.areaData GetFilesAndDirectories:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#",escapedString]];
[self.tableView reloadData];
}
}
is what I am trying to do possible? If the type is PDF goto the view Controller, else just update the table view.
Currently, When I select a row, it goes to View Controller, everytime.
This is what I got:
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
NSString *type = [[self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"Type"];
if([type isEqualToString: #"Directory"]){
NSArray *elements = [[[self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"Name"] componentsSeparatedByString:#"FTP\\"];
currentPath = [[[[self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"Name"] componentsSeparatedByString:#"FTP\\"] lastObject];
NSString *escapedString = [elements[1] stringByAddingPercentEncodingWithAllowedCharacters:[NSCharacterSet URLHostAllowedCharacterSet]];
self.tableData = [dataSource.areaData GetFilesAndDirectories:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#",escapedString]];
[self.tableView reloadData];
}else{
[self performSegueWithIdentifier:#"showDetail" sender:self.view];
}
}
- (void)prepareForSegue:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue sender:(id)sender
{
if ([segue.identifier isEqualToString:#"showDetail"])
{
NSLog(#"Here");
}
}
But it still goes to the View Controller everytime.
Yes it is possible.
In the PDF if you should Create the view controller you want to present and then call the presentViewController:animated:completion: method of the current view controller, passing in the PDF view controller you want.
EDIT: I didn't see the edited last sentence.
The only issue i found is a misstype in isEqualToString function and the chance that your type string could be nil.
EDIT 2:
I add an example of my own code. In this case the view allways open, but its different depending of the content if.
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
[tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES];
NSInteger row = [indexPath row];
locationData *locData;
if (indexPath.section == 0) {
locData= [self.sortEDlocations objectAtIndex:row];
}
else {
if(_btnUrgentCareFilter.isSelected){
locData = [self.filterSortOtherLocations objectAtIndex:row];
}else{
locData = [self.sortOtherLocations objectAtIndex:row];
}
}
[self showDetailView:locData];
}

Search bar fails and he does select row after searching
If you want more information just say it to me by answers and I will edit my question and then you will edit your answer
Please explain again clearly. You search using any alphabet, it shows the result which has only "A". Is this what you're trying to say ? If so, then remove the above code and try the below approach :-
Drag a search bar into the view controller and set its delegate to self (You'll find its property in the storyboard's delegate property
to the view controller).
Add UISearchBarDelegate in the .h file that will take care of automatically calling the appropriate methods of the search bar of
which the delegate is set to self.
Use the below method to detect the search. You can filter the NSArray here and reload the table.
-(void)searchBar:(UISearchBar *)searchBar textDidChange:(NSString *)searchText{
}
I'd recommend you to go through some basic tutorials about iOS development before getting deeper. All the best and I hope it helps you...

The following lines of code shown below are my current tableview settings. What i would like to achieve is what's seen on the image below.
1) if count is 4 when user scrolls Down show a Activity Indicator and Make a request using the next value shown on the JSON Below.
2) Reload the Table
3) Show No more results if count is empty.
Note: I am new on Objective-C so I will appreciate your guidance on this subject since all searches I have done were not successful on what I am looking to achieve since all of them are based on a table already loaded and not based on a Search Result.
As shown on the Image Below is a reference what i want to achieve.

One way to achieve it is,
Return the numberOfCells as one more than the data array
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
return myDataArray +1 ; //myDataArray is the data and One more cell for the last cell (10 out of 46 results cell)
}
In cellForRowAtIndexPath, if your IndexPath.row == myDataArray.count (ie., Last Row) Create a custom cell which looks as in the picture and return the custom cell.
In - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didEndDisplayingCell:(UITableViewCell *)cell forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath*)indexPath, If the indexPath corresponds to last cell, then Start Request for page 2, once the results are fetched, update the myDataArray and reload the table.
So I'm completely stumped here. I'm using xcode 5 and I have a table view with 2 segues. I tried to set the segues originally with two different prototype cells, but that didn't work. So I now have both segues set at the UITableViewController. It seems like whichever segue I created last is the one it goes to. I'm not getting any errors and when I step through the code, it fires on the correct line to execute the segue.
This seems to execute perfectly every time but it just doesn't go to the correct view.
- (void) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
if([currentTableViewType isEqualToString:#"feedbackOnly"]){
// hits this line correctly
[self performSegueWithIdentifier:#"ShowSendFeedback" sender:indexPath];
} else {
// hits this line correctly
[self performSegueWithIdentifier:#"ShowTicketDetails" sender:indexPath];
}
}
-(void)prepareForSegue:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue sender:(NSIndexPath *)selectedIndexPath {
if ([[segue identifier] isEqualToString:#"ShowTicketDetails"])
{
TicketDetailsViewController *tdv = [segue destinationViewController];
NSIndexPath *myIndexPath = [self.tableView indexPathForSelectedRow];
long row = [myIndexPath row];
Ticket * currentTicket = [ticketsArray objectAtIndex:row];
tdv.tPriority = currentTicket.ticketPriority;
tdv.tId = currentTicket.ticketId;
tdv.tStatus = currentTicket.ticketStatus;
}
if ([[segue identifier] isEqualToString:#"ShowSendFeedback"]){
FeedbackViewController *fvc = [segue destinationViewController];
NSIndexPath *myIndexPath = [self.tableView indexPathForSelectedRow];
long row = [myIndexPath row];
Ticket * currentTicket = [ticketsArray objectAtIndex:row];
fvc.tPriority = currentTicket.ticketPriority;
fvc.tId = currentTicket.ticketId;
fvc.tStatus = currentTicket.ticketStatus;
}
}

Ok... so it seems to be a bug in XCode. I had originally copied the 2nd ViewController that I was trying to segue to and changed the class of it as well as some of the view components. I figured StoryBoard would be smart enough to reassign this view as its own. I was wrong. XCode didn't seem to like that. Starting from scratch with a new ViewController seems to fix everything and the segues are working correctly now. The exact same code works.
So if anyone is having this issue, make sure you didn't copy and paste a ViewController that you are trying to segue to. This will save you hours of headaches :-)
It probably had a reference to the same ViewController which is why whatever the last segue I setup was the only one working.
I'm working on this app, but somehow, its not returning any rows in my tableviewcontroller.

I know my json is comming in correctly. the NSLogs are returning the data i ask, but i cant seem to get any rows. Can someone give me a hand? tnx
Simple answer -- you need to call [(your tableview) reloadData] once you've finished loading that data array!
Presumably you've got your tableview on the storyboard right now, and you've set it's datasource and delegate to your view controller. You will also need to have a property in your view controller to that tableview. You might have some code that looks like this.
#interface MasterViewController () {
NSArray *_studenten;
}
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITableView *tableView;
#end
#implementation MasterViewController
- (void)fetchedData:(NSData *)responseData {
NSError* error;
NSDictionary *json = [NSJSONSerialization
JSONObjectWithData:responseData
options:kNilOptions
error:&error];
_studenten = [json objectForKey:#"studenten"];
NSLog(#"Studenten: %#", _studenten);
NSLog(#"%u", _studenten.count);
[self.tableView reloadData];
}
#end
My guess is that you are never getting a valid cell returned from dequeueReusableCell. What I recommend doing is after you try to reuse a cell, check to see if it is nil, if so you need to alloc a new cell. I've added the code to your function.
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"Cell" forIndexPath:indexPath];
if(!cell) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:#"Cell"];
}
NSDictionary *student = [_studenten objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *studentNaam = [student objectForKey:#"studentNaam"];
NSString *studentAchterNaam = [student objectForKey:#"studentAchterNaam"];
cell.textLabel.text = studentAchterNaam;
cell.detailTextLabel.text = studentNaam;
return cell; }
I have 4 sectioned tables in my iOS 6 app. These tables each have a title that I set in the titleForHeaderInSection. I would like to know how I can access this title with NSLog in didSelectRowAtIndexPath. I DO see the string value of the row I clicked on in the alert but I would also like the title of the tableview section. I'm not sure how to get that.
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
NSMutableArray *sectionArray = [self.arrayOfSections objectAtIndex:indexPath.section];
UITableViewCell *selectedCell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
NSString *cellText = selectedCell.textLabel.text;
NSLog(#"Selected Cell: %#", cellText);
UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:#"Selected a row" message:[sectionArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:#"OK" otherButtonTitles:nil];
[alert show];
}
- (NSString *) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section{
NSString *result = nil;
if ([tableView isEqual:self.myTableView] && section == 0) {
myTableView.tableHeaderView.tag = FROZEN;
result = #"Frozen";
} else if ([tableView isEqual:self.myTableView] && section == 1) {

result = #"Salads";
} else if ([tableView isEqual:self.myTableView] && section == 3) {
myTableView.tableHeaderView.tag = VEGETABLES;
result = #"Vegetables";
}
return result;
}
Store the titles of sections in an array as,
NSArray *sectionTitles = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:#"Frozen", #"Fruit", #"Salads", #"Vegetables", nil];
And modify your titleForHeaderInSection method as,
- (NSString *) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section {
NSString *result = [sectionTitles objectAtIndex:section];
//....
return result;
}
Modify didSelectRowAtIndexPath as,
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
//...
NSLog(#"Header title: %#", [sectionTitles objectAtIndex:indexPath.section]);
//...
}
Another option is to use the below method in didSelectRowAtIndexPath
NSLog(#"Header title: %#", [self tableView:tableView titleForHeaderInSection:indexPath.section]);
Well, it does seem like UITableView should provide access to this for you, but I'm not finding anything... The easiest way to implement this would be, I think, to create an array (I'll call it mySectionTitles and assume it's a property) with your section titles and then, in didSelectRowAtIndexPath, call [self.mySectionTitles objectAtIndex:indexPath.section] and do whatever you want with the returned string.
