I'm using Access to run queries on a database called dbo_item. It contains a column called itm_class that contains numbers 1-100. It also contains columns called itm_len, itm_wid, itm_hgt, pal_len, pal_wid, pal_hgt. Depending on the item class number, I need it to calculate the volume either by item dimensions or by pallet dimensions. I have tried a few different things, but am not really sure how to get the If statement to work. Any help would be appreciated.
I.E. If itm_class equals 1,5,22,45,67,89,97,98,99,100 then volume is (itm_len * itm_wid * itm_hgt) and for all other itm_class numbers, volume is (pal_len * pal_wid * pal_hgt). Is there any way to do this?
You can use a iif condition for this.
IIF(itm_class in (1,5,22,45,67,89,97,98,99,100), itm_len * itm_wid * itm_hgt, pal_len * pal_wid * pal_hgt)
It works like , If condition(1st argument) is True, select the first value (2nd argument) or else select the other (3rd argument)
It depends on if you are doing this statement in visual-basic or if you are doing it at a database level (function/stored procedure) or if you are doing it with the query. The simplest way would be with a case when statement in your query such as:
select case when itm_class in (1,2,3,4) then (itm_len * itm_wid * itm_hgt)
when itm_class in (5,6,7,8) then (itm_len * itm_wid)
else (itm_len * itm_wid) end volume_calculation
from some_table

My problem with the above statement is that does not recognize the substring/offset operation on the 'ON' clause. If i remove the '(9) then

If you are on a late enough NetWeaver version, it works on 7.51, you can use the OpenSQL function LEFT or SUBSTRING. Your query would look something like:

Note that the INTO clause needs to move to the end of the command as well.
field(9) is a subset operation that is processed by the ABAP environment and can not be translated into a database-level SQL statement (at least not at the moment, but I'd be surprised if it ever will be). Your best bet is either to select the datasets separately and merge them manually (if both are approximately equally large) or pre-select one and use a FAE/IN clause.
They have a common field ( pod = vrefer(9) )
This is a wrong assumption, because they both are not fields, but a field an other thing.
If you really need to do that task through SQL, I'll suggest you to check native SQL sentences like SUBSTRING and check if you can manage to use them within an EXEC_SQL or (better) the CL_SQL* classes.
I am working on a web app and there are some long winded stored procedures and just trying to figure something out, I have extracted this part of the stored proc, but cant get it to work. The guy who did this is creating alias after alias.. and I just want to get a section to work it out. Its complaining about the ending but all the curly brackets seem to match. Thanks in advance..

A WITH clause is part of a query. It creates a view on-the-fly, e.g.:
with toys as (select * from products where type = 'toys') select * from toys;
Without the query at the end, the statement is invalid (and would not make much sense anyhow; if one wanted a permanent view for later use, one would use CREATE VIEW instead).
I want a query like:

here the system firing error while doing the multiplication as
sold_quantity is invalid column
another problem is that in multiplication I want to use package_rate which got by select query from tp.package_rate but it multiplying with all package_rate of the table but I want only specific package_rate which was output of select query

Your problem is that you are referring to sold_quantity here :
select(tp.package_rate * sold_quantity )
The alias is not recognized at this point.You will have to replace it with sum(sales). You will also have to group by tp.package_rate.
Your query should ideally be like :

I am guessing that tp.package_rate is unique for a given event_id, from latter part of your question. If that's not the case, the sql you have written makes no sense.

You should check the data types of each column. The data types must be compatible between each SELECT statement.
The last 4 values of your second select statement don't match the ones in your first statement. Try naming(using aliases) those columns the same thing(pairing them). To union you need to have the same columns between the sets.

The following are basic rules for combining the result sets of two
queries by using UNION:
The number and the order of the columns must be the same in all
queries.
The data types must be compatible.
Are the data types of each column the same in both portions of the query?
If the first character of the column name indicates the data type (i = integer, c = character, etc.) I'm guessing that the problem is with the second to last column in the select list. The first query is selecting gcv.c_pol, the second query is selecting gpv.i_pln.
Start commenting-out lines until it works. I.e., comment out all of the fields in each select list, and then one-by-one, un-comment the first one out, then the second, etc. You'll find it eventually.

Use IFNULL:
IFNULL(expr1, 0)
From the documentation:
If expr1 is not NULL, IFNULL() returns expr1; otherwise it returns expr2. IFNULL() returns a numeric or string value, depending on the context in which it is used.
You can use coalesce(column_name,0) instead of just column_name. The coalesce function returns the first non-NULL value in the list.
I should mention that per-row functions like this are usually problematic for scalability. If you think your database may get to be a decent size, it's often better to use extra columns and triggers to move the cost from the select to the insert/update.
This amortises the cost assuming your database is read more often than written (and most of them are).

If your field is named field, so the selector should be the following one:
IFNULL(`field`,0) AS field
For example in a SELECT query:

You can try something like this
IFNULL(NULLIF(X, '' ), 0)
Attribute X is assumed to be empty if it is an empty String, so after that you can declare as a zero instead of last value. In another case, it would remain its original value.
