I am in charge of maintain some build scripts intended to be used with MSBuild; I have found that they have several properties, among them I found the code:
/p:PipelineDependsOnBuild=False
Looking for an explanation about this, I search the web and I found that is part of the solution of issues with the building process of web projects, but is used in combination with other properties.
So far I have not found an msdn page that explain the purpose of that.
Fact: I tried to search for /p:PipelineDependsOnBuild=True and no results were found
For future reference, as I too found the use of this particular property curious, yet can't find any reference myself. However, in the said Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets file, this comments are interesting:
"These two Properties are not compatable %24(UseWPP_CopyWebApplication) and %24(PipelineDependsOnBuild) both are True.
Please correct the problem by either set %24(Disable_CopyWebApplication) to true or set %24(PipelineDependsOnBuild) to false to break the circular build dependency.
Detail: %24(UseWPP_CopyWebApplication) make the publsih pipeline (WPP) to be Part of the build and %24(PipelineDependsOnBuild) make the WPP depend on build thus cause the build circular build dependency. " />
So that using the PipelineDependsOnBuild=False might be necessary in order to using `UseWPP_CopyWebApplication' option.

I am working on a firefox fork and would like to duplicate -moz-apperance as appearance. I have tried duplicating it as a shorthand property but this throws errors at the compile stage using ./mach build The documentation seems cryptic.
There's documentation about implementing new CSS properties, which might be hard to follow, but browsers are complex pieces of software.
(Currently this question is too broad to provide an answer that's not link-only.)

Regarding to the solution described in this post, a third assembly is required to forward the type resolution to the correct assembly.
When adding this reference to the Android class library project using the type, the forwarding seems to not be done. The reference needs to be added in the Android application project which is the end point of the build process.
Does any solution exist to add the reference embedding the forwarding in the project requiring it ?
I mean, if in my solution architecture I use :
MyApp.Core - PCL
MyApp.Core.Droid - Android class library
MyApp.UI.Droid - Android Application
The usage of System.Net namespace (System.Net.Socket.AddressFamily for example) is done in my ViewModel, which is located in MyApp.Core.Droid (redirection of MyApp.Core with some plugins). In this case, it is more logical (and readable) to have the reference in the MyApp.Core.Droid. But in the fact, the assembly resolution is done (from what I understand) when packaging the application, so in MyApp.UI.Droid. So in this case, the reference needs to be added to MyApp.UI.Droid in order to be found (failed if added to MyApp.Core.Droid).
In this case the solution works, but its quite obvious to understand for a new programmer joining the team which, has not been facing the trouble and understands why this reference needs to be added to the UI project...
I'm not sure my thought is easy to understand by the way I introduce it. Let me know if you need more explanation.

I'm not entirely sure why this 'fails if added to MyApp.Core.Droid' - it feels like this should be added. However, I know that Xamarin have tweaked and changed the dependency resolution scripts a few times.
With that said, I think the best answer to your question is 'don't worry about it too much' - this is only a small inconveneinve right now and it will be resolved by Xamarin's updates 'soon'.
The current PCL support is something that I and a number of others have worked on in order to make things work. This set of 'hacks' is a workaround for the lack of 'proper PCL' support - it simulates what the Microsoft PCL build platform does on WindowsPhone, WPF, etc, but it isn't a perfect implementation.
Xamarin have now committed to 'proper PCL' support. When that happens then these type-forwarding dependencies will automatically be added. The good news is that this support is perhaps now only days, weeks or at most months away.
I'm seeing a strange build bug a lot. Sometimes after typing some code we receive the following build error.
Class 'clsX' must implement 'Event PropertyChanged(sender As Object, e As PropertyChangedEventArgs)' for interface System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged'.
And
'PropertyChanged' cannot implement 'PropertyChanged' because there is no matching event on interface 'System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged'.
Those error should never go together! Usually we can just ignore the exception and build the solution but often enough this bug stops our build. (this happens a lot using Edit and Continue which is annoying)
We're using Vb.net and c# mixed in one big solution.
Removing the PropertyChanged event and retyping the same code! sometimes fixes this.

Has anyone else seen this problem and has some suggestions how to prevent his?
We're using a code generator that causes this error to surface but just editing some files manually triggers this exception too. This error occur's on multiple machines using various setups.
Someone had the same exact issue discussed here. It sounds like there is an issue with this build picking up an old version of a binary. I would try the following in order:
Verify all assembly references use project references where possible within the Visual Studio solution.
Disable build parallelization in case there is some weird file locking issue with concurrent project builds. Go to Tools -> Options, Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run, then set "maximum number of parrellel project builds" to 1. Not the best solution but it may help narrow down the problem.
Disable the Hosting Process in case it's locking some file causing an assembly to not get rebuilt correctly. For C# project go to Project Properties, Debug tab, and uncheck "Enable the Visual Studio hosting process". For VB.NET project you'll need to Unload Project, Edit the project file, and add <UseVSHostingProcess>false</UseVSHostingProcess> to the PropertyGroup of each configuration. Again, not the best solution but you probably won't notice a difference.
Lastly, try doing a Clean + Build to try and resolve the issue when it occurs (I know this is not a fix but it's easy enough to do), also Rebuild may be slightly different than Clean + Build so try the latter if the former doesn't work.
As I can not comment due to lack of appropriate points.
But I would like to share one of my experience:
In an aspx.cs page I was working, used to compile fine and some time gave mysterious error of a variable not defined or function not defined or sometime variable or the function defined two times. I changed possibly each and every variable and function name but there seemed no effect , but after entering a simple space or a new line at any place in the file used to solve the compile error. At one time I tried to save the file (in a different encoding as i am used to experiments) and found that the file was not saving in the correct encoding (i.e. the ansi encoding because the file had a unicode character ), I removed the unicode character and that compile error didn't bothered me again.
This unicode character problem could be (not a hard and fast rule) there so you could check it.
Nuke & restore using source control (TFS instructions here):
Make sure you have everything checked in
Exit Visual Studio
Rename the project directory to .Bak (effectively deleting it)
Reopen Visual Studio and in source control:
Get Specific Version
check 'Overwrite... not checked out' and 'Overwrite ... even if local version matches'
Re-open project
Another problem: Make sure some source files are not newer than the current date (or your date is set back). Often this happens in apps where you are doing logic that requires certain things to happen differently on certain dates. You change your clock to test it, make a revision to the source with the date advanced, set the date back, and viola, rebuild does not rebuild that file.
You say 'typing it in again' - can you try just saving? After 40 years since MULTIX the .net build still decides what has changed by checking the file timestamp.

When you get the error, is it always on the VB calling C# side, or vice-versa, or does it work both ways?
If the answer is either of the first two situations, try building the "callee" project within the solution before building the "caller" project to see if it stops the situation.
Also, just in case it may jog something for you to think about, does this error crop up when you change a VB file or a C# file, or is there no correllation?

I'd like to be able to Alt-Click an instance variable (or a method) as part of the program i created and read what it's purpose is.
The fact that Xcode is telling me the class variable is declared at - is nice but not enough. In this case i'd like to see custom text i typed to describe what an asset really is. Additionally type of the ivar would also be useful to know.
How can this be done? In this case, i wonder what exactly did i mean by assets
I specifically wonder if this information can be viewed from inside Xcode, similar to how Eclipse shows JavaDoc content.
You would need to create a documentation set for your project and install it in Xcode. appledoc can help you with this. This is a command-line tool that can generate documentation in Apple's style from specially formatted comments in your headers. You can also integrate this into your build process with a run script build phase, so that documentation is always up-to-date.
For small projects, it's usually not worth the effort though and you're probably better off just adding comments to your header files and jumping there with Cmd-click (Ctrl+Cmd+left-arrow to go back to where you came from).
You'll probably want to take a look at Apple's documentation on Documentation Sets as well as their article on generating doc sets using Doxygen. The latter is based on Xcode 3.x, so how relevant it is is somewhat questionable, but it'd be a good idea to take a look nonetheless.
That said, if you decide to use Doxygen (alternatives like HeaderDoc can be used for documentation, but I'm not sure what's available to you as far as creating doc sets goes), it looks like the main point is you'll want to throw GENERATE_DOCSET=YES into your Doxyfile (or whatever you decide to call it). After that, you'd just throw the results into ~/Library/Developer/Shared/Documentation/DocSets (according to Doxygen's documentation). I don't know whether this works in Xcode 4.x - it's worth a shot though, and it'd be nice to hear back on it.

I admit...I am posting this question because I still don't have an answer to my other question and thought I would take a different tact.
Can someone explain to me WHERE the values for intellisense and namespace/class/member completion works. I figured if I can drill into where/how it is deriving that data I can try to reconfigure my project so that it will resolve my namespaces correctly.

The name space and intellisense information, for the CLR, comes from a database hidden inside the VS install.
The information for the working project, is scanned and archived (I think in a file) when you open the project. It then periodically updates it as you work.
If you want the exact path, I doubt that Microsoft publishes that information.
After looking at your other question, I wanted to add that it is possible (somehow) to have Visual Studio rebuild the index information for a given project. It eludes me on how to do this right now. Have you tried this and did you end up with the same results?

ways to refresh the cache: 1) Go to
Edit -> IntelliSense -> Refresh Local
Cache and 2) Hit Ctrl+Shift+R

I don't know how it's done in Visual Studio, but here is the general approach:
Collect all the public members and methods.
This is done, in case of managed libraries like those produced by VB.NET, by reflection. The documentation comes from xml files related to those libs. That's the approach for Referenced libraries.
For the project you are currently working on, it just constantly parses the source files where the documentation is combined with the code.
How the namespace resolving is done depends on the language offcourse, but that is answered in your other question.
