Just want to ask you if I'm doing the right way calling sub procedure in vb.net I've already tested it and it is working. I just want to know if I need to change my coding way?
So here's my Sub procedure:
Sub loadStudDB()
'To load student info from database and pass it through objecs from winform'
Try
con.Open()
Dim studid As Integer = Val(Form1.studentidtxt.Text)
Dim selectQ = "SELECT * FROM StudentInfoTBL WHERE StudentID=#studid"
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(selectQ, con)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#studid", studid)
Dim dr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()
If dr.HasRows Then
dr.Read()
studidtxt.Text = dr.Item("StudentID").ToString
studname.Text = dr.Item("StudentName")
agebox.Text = dr.Item("Age").ToString
If dr.Item("Gender") = "Male" Then
malebtn.Checked = True
Else
femalebtn.Checked = True
End If
dobtxt.Text = dr.Item("DOB")
homeaddtxt.Text = dr.Item("Home Address")
citytxt.Text = dr.Item("City").ToString
telephonetxt.Text = dr.Item("Telephone")
mobiletxt.Text = dr.Item("Mobile")
emailtxt.Text = dr.Item("Email")
dr.Close()
con.Close()
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString)
Finally
con.Close()
End Try
End Sub
Then I'll call it from form load event:
Private Sub Form2_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'call procedure created'
loadStudDB()
End Sub

Im doing a school project. and I was testing a login form for my app. I'm trying separately from my login form and a profile pic form. I have successfully managed to save the image to the access database but I have had quite a few problems trying to display it on a textbox on my form.
This is the whole app code:

I'm trying to search in a textbox for the name that I saved the image with. but I haven't had success all I get is the error of the title.
this is how my database looks like the images are saved as an ole object
This is the error I get
I was following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFdjp39mfhQ
but he didn't quite explain how to use the:
TextBox1.Text = publictable.Rows(0).Item(1)
arrimage = publictable.Rows(0).Item(1)'
don't know if it's the cause of the issue.
instructions. The reason why my code looks different is that I was trying to stuff to see if I could make it work.
I have tried to search for answers and people suggest that I may have put the table name wrong or the column but I copied the name exactly how it is in the table with ctrl + c and ctrl + v.
what I want is that when I type the name in the column name of the database that it brings the designated picture stored as ole object onto my desired picture box on my form app.
Needless to say, I'm not that experienced with vb.net and SQL, Acces. I'm just following tutorials for being able to complete the project.
Do not declare connections or commands or datareaders at the class level. They all need to have their Dispose methods called. Using blocks will have the declare, closing and disposing even if there is an error. Streams also need Using blocks.
Defaults for an OpenFiledialog
Multiselect is False
CheckFileExists is True
CheckPathExists is True
DereferenceLinks is True
ValidateNames is True
FileName is ""
Unless you are getting paid by the line, it is unnecessary to reset these values to their defaults.
I have alerted your Filter to exclude All Files. You also had jpg appearing twice.
I declared a variable to hold the file extension, PictureFormat, of the image file so you could provide the proper parameter for ImageFormat.
When you retrieve the image field from the database it comes as an Object. To get the Byte() a DirectCast should work.

I'm trying to make an army list builder for a miniatures strategy game.
I'd like to know the correct method to read a SQL table cell value and to put it for each unit into a ComboBox.text field, but only into the field.
The ComBoBox collection items should not be modified (I need them to remain as it is). I just want the ComboBox.text value to be modified with the red framed value, and for each unit
For the record, currently, I read the others table informations and load them into the others ComboBoxes this way :
Private Sub TextBoxQuantitéUnités_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles TextBoxQuantitéUnités.Click
Dim connection As New SqlConnection("Data Source=Server;Initial Catalog=OST;Integrated Security=True")
Dim dt As New DataTable
Dim sqlquery As String
connection.Open()
sqlquery = "select * from liste1 Order By index_unité"
Dim SQL As New SqlDataAdapter(sqlquery, connection)
SQL.Fill(dt)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(sqlquery, connection)
Dim reader As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader
ComboBoxNomUnités.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxNomUnités.DisplayMember = "nom_unité"
ComboBoxTypeUnités.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxTypeUnités.DisplayMember = "type_unité"
ComboBoxAbréviationUnités.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxAbréviationUnités.DisplayMember = "abréviation_unité"
ComboBoxCoutTotal.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxCoutTotal.DisplayMember = "cout_unité"
connection.Close()
End Sub
Many thanks :-)
The ComboBox.text where I want to load the cell value
The table picture with the framed value I want to load into the cell
The original ComboBox collection I want to keep
EDIT 2 :
My table structure
Your function call
A short clip of the program in order to understand my problem
As you can see, the function seems good and when I check the ComboBoxQuality text during the execution, it seems good but for some reason, it don't change...
The others Comboboxes are sync as you can see on the upper code.
Thanks in advance...

The problem is when I click Save, the app hangs a while, and then I get the "Database is locked" error picture
Here is the code for the Save button:
Private Sub Savebtn_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Savebtn.Click
Try

cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
cmd.Dispose()
con.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
End Try
End Sub
Thanks for the help
I fixed this problem by removing all "cmd.Dispose()", "da.Dispose()" and "con.Close()" from the code, leaving them ONLY in
Private Sub Closebtn_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Closebtn.Click
da.Dispose()
cmd.Dispose()
con.Close()
Dim fems As New EMS
fems.Show()
Me.Close()
End Sub
On Form Load I have
Private Sub EditLoc_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
con.Open()
Call pull()
End Sub
And the Pull sub has all the rest...
Private Sub pull()
Try
Dim sql = Nothing
sql = "SELECT Location FROM Location"
Dim cmdDataGrid As SQLiteCommand = New SQLiteCommand(sql, con)
da.SelectCommand = cmdDataGrid
Dim dt As New DataTable
da.Fill(dt)

End Try
Try ' TRY CATCH for combobox
cmd.Connection = con
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT Location FROM Location"
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader()
' Fill a combo box with the datareader
Do While dr.Read = True
ComboBox1.Items.Add(dr.GetString(0))
Loop
If ComboBox1.Items.Count > 0 Then
ComboBox1.SelectedIndex = 0 ' The first item has index 0 '
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
End Try
End Sub
And here is my Save button
Private Sub Savebtn_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Savebtn.Click
If Not TextBox1.Text = Nothing Then
Try
cmd = con.CreateCommand
cmd.CommandText = "UPDATE Location set Location = '" & TextBox1.Text & "' WHERE Location = '" & ComboBox1.Text & "'"
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
End Try
Call pull()
TextBox1.Text = Nothing
End If
End Sub
Now everything is working, no errors!
Calling pull() after saving will update the DataGridView

I have this class called "SQLControl".
And I have a sub and function like this :
Public Function ConnectionTest() As Boolean
Try
SQLConn.Open()
SQLConn.Close()
Return True
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
Return False
End Try
End Function
Public Sub LoadTable(LoadTableQuery As String) 'LoadTableQuery itu variable yang ada didalam si Sub LoadTable

'Load SQL record untuk datagrid

SQLDataset = New DataSet
SQLDA.Fill(SQLDataset)
SQLConn.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
If SQLConn.State = ConnectionState.Open Then
SQLConn.Close()
End If
End Try
End Sub
Then i use my sub an function to this one :
Private Sub PictureBox1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles pbAdd.Click
Me.Hide()
MenuTambah.cbLokasiPeminjaman.SelectedIndex = 0
MenuTambah.Show()
If SQL.ConnectionTest = True Then
SQL.LoadTable("SELECT * FROM Tabel_Pinjam")
MenuTambah.DGVTambah.DataSource = SQL.SQLDataset.Tables(0)
Else
MsgBox("Koneksi ke database gagal !")
End If
End Sub
then I want to show the Datagridview called "DGVTambah" in "MenuTambah" Form dataset to my crystalreport, this code is in my "MenuTambah" Form :
Private Sub PictureBox1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles PictureBox1.Click
Dim myReport As New ReportDocument
myReport.Load(Application.StartupPath & "\Laporan.rpt")
myReport.SetDataSource(DGVTambah.DataSource)
LaporanViewer.CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = myReport
End Sub
But it said "The report has no tables", why I am get this error?
If no table, my datagridview called "DGVTambah" will not show any table, and my query works fine.
Thanks:)
