I have an App that I inherited in VB6 and have ported mostly to VB.net
When I compile / run the app - it highlights all the files in the current selected folder.
What makes it worse, is it's very difficult to search online as what search terms does one use?
The app was ported to VS 2005 - quite successfully - but this has me stumped...
I have tried commenting out all the code that's run on startup and it still does it, so it must be some sort of background thing...
Any ideas?
I can't find an old version of my app to see if it's changes I have made and I don't know where to begin. See the image:
The top part is before I run the app, the bottom is once the app is running and has focus. I hope it makes sense
Also, if I'm browsing and then run the app, and go back to the browser, when my app gets the focus again, the webpage goes back to the top...
The folder is just an example - Basically when I compile (or later run) my App, if I go to Windows Explorer - when the app gets focus - whatever folder I am in has all its files highlighted. If instead of going to Windows Explorer, I go to a web browser, when the app gets focus the browser goes to the top (similar to Home).
There is Windows Integratio, but I have commented out what I can and still am no closer.
Does this info help?
I found the problem - after going back to the vb6 project and removing everything except for the 5 modules needed to startup and I eventually tracked the problem.
There was some code being called when two edit boxes received focus which called send keys home and end - hence it would go home - select all files to the end. I had deactivated one of the edit boxes to not receive focus and it helped temporarily(obviously until the other box got focus), but since deactivating the send keys when they get focus has helped. Albeit an arbitrary problem, maybe it will help someone in the future..

There are actually two camera problems.
The first is that sometimes the RMB to control the camera angle in Studio doesn't work. Sometimes using the LMB or movement keys helps, other times (like right now) it doesn't do anything. The hand cursor appears to shake in the direction I want to pan the camera but nothing happens. I did have an Advanced Camera plugin.
When I'm testing my game in Studio, I have NO camera control via RMB and zooming is nonfunctional. This is to say that I can turn using my mouse, but RMB doesn't change how mouseview works. Probably unrelated, but I cannot get scripts from the toolbox for run, crouch, zoom, etc. to work, either, even when I place them where instructed.
I get these errors in my game:
16:36:47.313 ▼ ActivateCameraController did not select a module. (x3) - Client - CameraModule:362
16:36:47.314 ActivateCameraController did not select a module.
16:36:47.314 ActivateCameraController did not select a module.
I've been having trouble with Studio eating up too much bandwidth when NOT in use during actual gameplay in Roblox (exe), so I removed all the Studio plugins, thinking one of them might be the culprit (deliberate or accidental), and also hoping it might fix the camera issues. No such luck.
Probably unrelated, but I found a couple of apparently simple viruses (Vaccine and Fire) using clone() and spread() to reproduce within the confines that their simple scripts dictated. I removed all instances, as well as a presumably fake Antivirus. The first two were very basic scripts designed to spread the script and didn't do any damage (although the latter would damage players).
#Kylaaa came up with the answers, but there's no way for me to mark them as answers.
The problems did not occur in a new game until I copied all the stuff I'd added into it (from the troubled game).
Regarding RMB not working in the Studio:
Sometimes, if the Workspace Camera gets set to Scriptable, all mouse inputs stop working. You could try checking if switching the CameraType to Fixed or anything else fixes your problem. It should be in the Properties window when you select the Camera in the Workspace.
What I did: I changed the mode and the problem stopped. I suspect that the Advanced Camera plug-in that I had removed had something to do with the problem.
Regarding the camera not zooming and RMB not working during testing:
you have a malicious script somewhere in your Workspace. You can search/filter the workspace for Script and it will show all of the objects with scripts in them. I would recommend removing or Disabling the each of the scripts until you find which one is causing the errors
When you click on a Script in the Explorer, look in the Properties widget. There should be a checkbox titled Disabled. When you select that, it will prevent the script from running when the game starts
What I did: I deleted a bunch of stuff my son had added, and then disabled ALL scripts, then started enabling them one unique instance at a time (i.e. duplicates were enabled simultaneously). The camera problem didn't come back except when I edited a script during testing. I never located the problem script, despite going through and triggering all scripts.
I am creating calculator VBO in blueprism object studio.
In application modeller I gave calc.exe path and able to launch calculator, but I am not getting identify option to spy on any element..
In Element, After clicking Launch buttion, identify is appearing for a split of sec and Launch button is coming back instead of Identify
PS- As mentioned in videos and links, I have launched calc via application modeller not directly via windows..
I am using windows 10, BluePrism V.5.0.11.0 versionenter image description here
Windows 10 calculator is complicated case, please consider using different application in your training. For example paint is much simpler to get started.
If you really need to get that going, then you may need to launch application first, using one object, and afterwards use second object to attach and interact with it.
can be two reasons
1. Either your application is not launched properly.
2. Sometimes we face problems with some versions of applications.
The best way to fix your problem is
Edit your settings remove the application path from the navigate stage.
Launch the application separately
Open Navigate stage > Action > Attach
Provide the window title within quotes (example: "Calculator")
Click OK then run the object
Now if you go to application modeller
You will be able to see the identify button under the element.
Hope this will help you.
I resolved this by unchecking "Disable invasive techniques (hooking)".
The Windows 10 calculator runs with process name win32calc which is also located under c:\windows\system32.
So when you launch the application please make you identify the applications process name and its location
I resolved this by circumventing to windows 7 calculator instead of a windows 10 calculator on windows 10.

This will be installed in the same place as your default calculator.
Inside-
C:\Windows\System32
The name of the app in my case was "calc1.exe" to avoid collisions with the default calculator.
I used this as my base reference app for spying and it worked.
Also note, the hover to highlight button seems to be a bit buggy, try a bit hit and trail to get you required button to be highlighted and mark using "Ctrl+LeftClick"
I have a relatively small VB winforms project.
It is currently used to launch numbers hyperlinks and some apps on a server.
There are a couple functions that do all the work, but the it really boils down to:
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("iexplore.exe", urlVar)
or if it is an app sitting on the server, the variable passed into the function appLinkVar will contain the need file path to launch the application.
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(appLinkVar)
The "items" are stored on a SQL Local Database (.mdf)
Id, appName, appLink, appClickCount, appFavList, anddecision, which tells the function if it is calling a website or opening an executable.
Currently, there are forty rows in the database and I project 150+ in the end that need to be updated centrally and often (weekly). But that's a different question for later. The reason I added in it in this question was for insight as to why I am using a database instead of a Setting or XML file for some links. (better suggestions welcome)
My admin main form loads Visible = False and loads the icon in the system try. So you can't actually see the first form that opens. It is a hidden admin window and it's main purpose is to put the icon in the system tray. The green RJ icon - http://snag.gy/VBa6c.jpg
Then all of the app interaction is around the notify icon. Example: the app loads on hover. right-click for settings and options etc.
Once the primary form loads, on mouse over the "Primary Label" for example and the white form to the left appears and so on. Not much to it. http://snag.gy/excKr.jpg
The Frequently Accessed items is currently stored on the database called appClickCount, this will be coming off of the database and to another recommended way of storing the data. But when I initially added the database, I noticed some lag in the main form loading. It would take it 5-7 seconds to populate the Frequently Accessed Items List and so on. So I changed the code from mainWindow.show() to mainWindow.visible(). Worked great for me. opened and closed very quickly. But after some use today by a tester, the application became almost unresponsive. He clicked on the notification icon numerous times and the app failed to load. Then threw a SQL time out error. It was the end of the day and I couldn't grab a screenshot.
I need to make this more reliable.
After some discussion the other day on SO, I was talking to someone that recommended I re-write the app in C# WPF, and that is definitely the plan. But I need this thing to past testing as is in VB this week. Where can I start troubleshooting the delay in opening? What other suggestions do you have to improve the application? Do I need to have an invisible form load first so I have access to a system tray icon or is there a better way?
I have talked to quite a few people on here lately and got some really good advice, I figured I would lay it all out here and see what input you guys can give a new guy... I'm also gonna go hang in the C# room for a little bit if you have any further questions.
I'm developing a website with ASP MVC 3 and Razor in VS2010 SP1.
When I'm running the site from VS, if the view was open in the IDE, I can edit a view in runtime, and press F5 to show the changes, but if I open the view after run the site, then the view is locked (no message, simply I can write in the VS Editor)
When I stop debuggin the solution, the views that are locked remains locked, and I have to close the file and open id again in order to modify the code.
This behaviour is uncomfortable. Can anyone tell me why sometimes I can write in the VS2010 editor and other times I can't?
Other Notes:
The TFS is not the problem.
It happens in all the VS 2012 SP1 of my office.
It only happens in vb.net projects, not in C# proyects.
It didn't happens in VS2012.
I've disabled all the extensions.
Thanks.
I have experienced this as well.
I've found that just reopening the file, while in debug, works most of the time. The nearest thing I can figure is that you're not actually editing the file but actually viewing a debug version of the file.
This normally happens, for instance, a javascript method causes an exception within the source of that page. It then loads the active version of that page instead of the one you're editing. Though I've had it happen without any errors generated so I'm fairly certain that's not the whole issue. It might be worth posting an issue on http://aspnet.codeplex.com/workitem/list/basic It hasn't happened often enough for me to narrow it down but it sounds like it happens for you more often.
After more than a year suffering this problem, a solution was found.
This MS HotFix for VS2010SP1 solved the issue.

I'm writing a simple Cocoa Application, no core data or multiple document support. Running on a Mac Pro, OS X 10.6.6, Xcode 3.2.3.
I have reduced my application to the following code in my AppDelegate class:
- (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification
{
NSOpenPanel *openPanel = [NSOpenPanel openPanel];
[openPanel runModal];
return;
}
From within the debugger, I will run my application. As expected a somewhat not-to-useful OpenPanel will appear. I will click Cancel and it will disappear. All this is as expected. When I click [Command + Q] to Quit the application, the UI will go away but the debugger will indicate that the application is still running (as does the console output).
Based upon all the information I'm reading, I should not have to do anything else in order for this to run right. I've downloaded several examples on the Open Panel's usage but most use the deprecated methods of opening modal giving additional information as parameters. FWIW, I tried those methods and am still seeing the same result.
One last item, when the Open dialog appears, just for an instant I see a message box asking me something to the extent if I want my application to receive incoming connections. The dialog quickly disappears. I don't know if that is part of my problem or not. [Update - this deals with my Firewall being turned on.]
Yes, I'm fairly new at Objective C but not at programming in general. Any words of wisdom is greatly appreciated!
2011.02.07 - Update:
I have walked the debugger line by line without incident. There is no indication of any program failure in the console window.
I say that the debugger is still active after [Command + Q] because the Stop Process toolbar button is still enabled as is the Break button. Further the console indicates that after I tell the application to terminate (either via the menu or key command) that it is still running. The following is the Complete console output from start of run to after I Quit the application.
Program loaded.
run
[Switching to process 62370]
Running...
The Activity Monitor (system tool) will show my application terminating (no longer shows up as a process) but the Debugger will still not transition to "edit" mode - if I tell Xcode to run the debugger again, it will ask me if it's OK to Stop the current debugging session. If I was in Windows I would start looking for background threads keeping the process alive but as far as I know, NSOpenPanel should not be doing something like that.
I have further simplified the program to nothing more than creating a brand new Cocoa application and inserting the code snippet above - no other additions to the template project or updates in any way.
And lastly, when the application is run under the Leaks Performance Tool, everything runs fine when the panel is created but never used. When created and actually used though, at the end of the run I will get the following message in the tool "insufficient task_for_pid privileges (leakagent64)". Googling this hurts. If I read it right, the debugger does not have sufficient permissions to fully kill the target process ??? Now that sounds stupid but ... It does not make sense!
Another update - I just downloaded and ran FunHouse, one of the SDK sample applications that also uses NSOpenPanel. Well don't I feel special. It exhibits the same exact behavior. So from this I conclude either Apple has a bug in their code, my machine is special and messed up, and finally, it is Not my code that is at fault. That being the best part. Tomorrow, I will use a friends Mac and see if the same behavior is exhibited on his box.
This is just too weird.
I rebooted my box, took it to work and found it worked like a charm! I will assume this is fixed and has nothing to do with any other connected devices at home as compared to at work.
If it re-exhibits at home, then it is a network/device issue. Thanks all for your inputs and suggestions! Very much appreciated.
What, specifically, does the debugger say? It's possible that your program crashed, so the debugger is showing you information about the crash.
What if you omit any attempt to run an Open panel?
