vlookup not finding vba cells - vba

I have a table that uses a bit of vba to populate column b with id numbers.
I then have column c as a vlookup that gets a name based off the id, from another sheet. The vlookup in the first cell works fine and returns the correct name, John Doe.
When I drag down, the rest of the cells in column c return the same name as the first, John Doe. The vlookup in the other cells is exactly the same, except the reference cell does change, as expected....so, c2 = vlookup(b2, $range, col, false), c3= vlookup(b3..), c4=vlookup(b4,..), etc.
The catch is, when I look at the vlookup in c3 and click on b3, the cell changes to find the correct name (no longer John Doe). So it works fine. And I have to do that for every cell in column c.
It's like vlookup isn't aware that column b changed? Is that something that happens with vba? Is there a refresh command or some other way for vlookup to register that column b has changed without having to click on each individual vlookup function?

If you've entered a formula in a cell, then copied the formula to another cell and Excel hasn't updated your results, that means that Calculation Mode is Manual.
To fix it (depending on version, this is for Excel 2010)
Click on Formulas in the Ribbon
Click on Calculation Options
Click on Automatic
If you need to have it calculate manually (valuable for making many formula changes in a large worksheet):
Click on Formulas in the Ribbon
Click on Calculate Now to calculate the entire workbook, or
Click on Calculate Sheet to calculate the current worksheet
You can skip all the clicking by pressing F9 to Calculate Now or Shift-F9 to Calculate Sheet.

VB.net copy and paste excel cell to elsewhere in the workbook

So i am currently using Visual Studio to create a application that takes info out of an excel sheet and then does some calculations on the data and then pushes back to excel.
This bit i have managed to do but the bit i am struggling on is using a 'Parameters' sheet. I want to be able to enter a formula into a cell in one sheet of the workbook and then paste that formula into another sheet but to have it updating,e.g. as the cells go down the formula changes like it would in excel. I used a manual work around by hard coding the formula and then having variable as the row number, however i want to be able to just change the formula in the excel sheet and then when the code runs it applies to the rest.
Currently i have tried saving the cell value/text into a variable and then making the new cells equal that variable, however this then applies the same identical formula to the whole of the column(All required rows).
What i am currently trying to do is paste the variable into the top row and then copy and paste that cell down to the last one,
I have tried making the variable a formula but it evaluates the formula before it is equal to the variable and therefore just sets all the new cells to the formula answer, so i changed the cell to be text instead which then meant the formula did appear in the new cell however it was the identical formula for all cells.
The copy code works as below
bjExcel.cells(rown, colval) = param1
objExcel.cells(rown, colval).copy
This is working fine
But when i use the below the paste won't work
Do Until rown = 10
objExcel.cells(rown, colval).copy
rown = rown + 1
objExcel.cells(rown, colval).paste
Paste is not a recognized with the error:
System.MissingMemberException: 'Public member 'Paste' on type
'ApplicationClass' not found.'
Could be you need to use PasteSpecial instead?
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/vba/api/excel.range.pastespecial
Depends on what you're using to interop with excel.
shWorkSheet.Range("C7:C7").Copy()
shWorkSheet.Range("V7:V7").PasteSpecial(Excel.XlPasteType.xlPasteAll)

I need to generate new workbooks using existing sheets that I will autopop with data

I have two sheets on my template. Sheet one contains a SKU in column A and a descr. in column B
On sheet 2, I have a pre-written template that has generic SKU and Description. That means under the item sku, it says D999 and under the description it says xxx.
I want to replace "999" with the value in A2 on my first sheet, but the 999 is in multiple columns through the sheet. Next, I want to replace the "xxx" with the data in B2 from sheet 1. I can't seem to find a VBA code that will do this specifically.
Lastly, once the find and replaces are done, I need to have it save me a new workbook using sheet2, in the same format, and name it as the value in A4 on sheet 2. I think you should be able to find the workbook here My Workbook
Basically, I want to be able to enter a bulk amount of new SKUs and Description, and be able to generate a new workbook for each SKU I enter. Right now I have 78 waiting to have sheets made.
In the cell to the right of the cells where you want to type in the SKU, add the following formula: =Match(A2, LookupsheetName!B:B,0). This will return the row the SKU was found on. In the next cell to the right use the Index function: =Index(LookupSheetName!A1:B1000, B2, 0). This will bring the label in column B to the current page. The Match function locates the row the SKU was found on.
Try these for looking up the information, because they are more efficient than VLookups.
The code for copying a worksheet to another workbook can be created using the Macro recorder on the Developer tab. Turn the recorder on then do the steps to manually move/copy to another workbook. When done, open the VBA editor and figure out how to save the workbook to a new name each time.
Good luck.

Excel Cell reference that will go to the left

I am using an excel spreadsheet formula to add two cells together and I want to have it reference one row from left to right like it normally does, but I need it to reference the same row in another page in reverse, and then be able to drag the formula through the entire worksheet. I cannot seem to find anything like this when I look online. TLDR I need to know how to tell excel reference the cell to the left if I drag it to the right.
so I need to add A0 in page one and A9 in page two then when I copy the formula to the left I need it to grab A1 and A8, is there a way to get this?
Your question is not very clear; for example, you talk about a formula but have an Excel-VBA tag. However, I think I understand the effect you seek.
I have filled A1:I1 of the current sheet and A1:I1 of worksheet “Sheet3” with numbers.
I have typed the following formula into another cell within the current worksheet:
=A1+INDEX(Sheet3!$A$1:$I$1,,10-COLUMN(A1))
The target area for the INDEX function is Sheet3!$A$1:$I$1. This is a one row range so I do not need a row number. The column number is 10-COLUMN(A1) which is 9 so this formula is equivalent to:
=A1+Sheet3!I9
If I copy the formula one cell to the right I get:
=B1+INDEX(Sheet3!$A$1:$I$1,,10-COLUMN(B1))
This is the equivalent of:
=B1+Sheet3!H9
You can continue copying the formula to the right until you get:
=I1+INDEX(Sheet3!$A$1:$I$1,,10-COLUMN(I1))
Attempting to copy further gives an error because 10-COLUMN(J1) is zero and there is no column 0.
There are other methods of achieving this effect. The key feature of any such method is the expression N-X where N is a constant and X gets bigger as the formula is copied further to the right.

How to highlight a cell when formula result from another sheet changes?

This is one that's been killing me and I've tried almost every solution on the Internet.
Here's background. I have an HR model that has each department broken out on separate tabs. I want to run an extract from our payroll system each payroll run and send highlight any updates individually. If someone's title or salary or status changes, I want to have that called out by highlighting the cell.
Each tab uses an INDEX/MATCH lookup to the extract tab to pull in the current information. What I want is if any value changes or is new(new hire, for example), highlight the cells.
I've played with Worksheet_Calculate and Worksheet_Change to no avail. Worksheet_Change doesn't fire because I'm not making the change directly on the sheet and Worksheet_Calculate doesn't have the Target object for to reference. I've tried the following code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim updatedCell As Range
Set updatedCell = Range(Target.Dependents.Address)
If Not Intersect(updatedCell, Range("A:A")) Is Nothing Then
updatedCell.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
End If
End Sub
The range I actually need evaluated is A7:R104 but I've been trying to get anything to work when linked to another sheet.
This works fine if formula of target cell is pointing to another cell on same sheet. The moment you point to one on another sheet it doesn't work. I've tried most of the solutions on here with no success. I've even tried putting the Worksheet_Change on the extract sheet and see if I can trigger it that way with no luck.
Is there a recommended solution to triggering a change to a cell for a formula linked to another sheet?
so I just saw this post, I don't know if you've found the solution or are still looking, but:
if you select a cell in sheet 3, you can then go to the home tab, go to "conditional formatting" -highlight cell rules - more rules (at the bottom) - and "use formulas to determine which cells to format" and then put your cursor in the formula box. now, select a cell in sheet 1 (click the sheet1 tab, and click a cell) and you'll notice it should populate the address for sheet1, and the cell u selected. now type <> after that cells address, then select sheet2 and a cell. then click format, and choose a fill color. then ok. if you go to conditional formatting and manage rules it will show there the rule / formula and which cells it applies to.
doing this i was able to select cell D10 in sheet 3, and make it an ugly green if cells in sheet1 and 2 didnt match (I picked which cells) you can also select a range of cells.
thusly, you can apply this rule to whatever dells you want, and if you record a macro of you setting this conditional formatting, you can manitpulate that macro to apply it to a bunch of different cells, and change the ranges. (using loops / variables)

Excel Macro - Search Range of Cell for 0, then return "empty" cell

This is my first time using this forum, and my VBA skill is not very well developed. I hope someone can help.
I have two columns of data, Column A and Column B.
Column A - Returns a sequential "month-year" or 0. If spreadsheet current date (=now()) is less than say Feb, then the cell for February returns 0.
Column B - I want this column to check each cell in Column A. If Column A cell has a date identifier, I want this to be placed in Column B. If Column A has a 0 identifier, I want Column B to return an "empty" cell.
Reason why I am doing this is I am graphing a bar chart. When I trick the program into making an empty cell (x-axis) the graph does not show any data for that month (which is what I want). Trying to make a dynamic graph, but I have no experience in VBA (only C programming =/).
You don't need VBA (or even formulas) to do this.
Highlight Column A (the entire column), copy it.
Highlight Column B (the entire column, right click, Paste Special, select values and number formats, okay.
Highlight Column B again. Press Ctrl+H, Type 0 (or failing that it might be 00/01/1900) in the 'find what', leave the 'replace with' one blank. Tick Match entire cell contents. Click replace all.
Done.
Instead of trying for an empty space (which would be impossible, as there's a formula in that cell), use an error condition.
Use this formula, and copy down:
=IF(A1=0,NA(),A1)
This will return the error condition #NA! and Excel will leave the column blank
The other way would be to have a dynamic range for the chart data - I have a chart that will adjust to 5,6 or 7 days, depending on the data returned for the week. The Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels is set to a named range (='Sample.xlsx'!LastWeekRange) and the range checks the data, and returns the appropriate number of cells.
LastWeekRange is defined in Name Manager as =OFFSET(Data!$A$3,0,0,IF(Data!$F$9>0,7,IF(Data!$F$8>0,6,5))), which returns A3:A7 if there's nothing in F8, A3:A8 if there is something in F8 but not in F9, and A3:A9 if there is something in F9.
