So I'm trying to do a couple things with this subroutine but can't get VBA to execute the .FormulaArray function.
Create a named range using offset & lastrow function
Use cell references to insert into the array formula
--
Sub namedrange()
Dim firstrow As Long
Dim LastRow As Long
Dim ColToLetter, absolute, Title, mc, mc1
ActiveCell.Offset(0, -1).Select
absolute = ActiveCell.Address
LastRow = ActiveSheet.Cells(Rows.Count, ActiveCell.Column).End(xlUp).Row
firstrow = ActiveCell.Row
ColLetter = Mid(ActiveCell.Address, 2, 1)
ActiveSheet.Range(ColLetter & firstrow & ":" & ColLetter & LastRow).Name = Range(ColLetter & "1").Value
Title = Range(ColLetter & "1").Value
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Select
mc = ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 0).Address
mc = Mid(mc, 2, 3)
mc1 = Replace(mc, "$", "")
ActiveCell.FormulaArray= "=IF(ROWS(mc & "":"" & mc1)>SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(Title<>"""",MATCH(Title,Title,0)),ROW(Title)-ROW(absolute)+1),1)),"""",INDEX(Title,SMALL(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(Title<>"""",MATCH(Title,Title,0)),ROW(Title)-ROW(absolute)+1),ROW(Title)-ROW(absolute)+1),ROWS(mc & "":"" & mc1))))"
End Sub
The formula bar shows what the vba function is outputting, which is not what I want. I don't know why it won't output the references I've created like mc should be "$A$2" not "mc".
Also when I try to execute the FormulaArray code I get a runtime error 1004 "Unable to set the FormulaArray property of the Range class"
Your .FormulaArray content has some typos. Here's how it should look like (assuming all the above code is fine):
ActiveCell.FormulaArray= "=IF(ROWS(" & mc & ":" & mc1 & ")>SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(Title<>" & chr(34) & chr(34) & ",MATCH(Title,Title,0)),ROW(Title)-ROW(absolute)+1),1))," & chr(34) & chr(34) & ",INDEX(Title,SMALL(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(Title<>" & chr(34) & chr(34) & ",MATCH(Title,Title,0)),ROW(Title)-ROW(absolute)+1),ROW(Title)-ROW(absolute)+1),ROWS(" & mc & ":" & mc1 & "))))"
In general, remember that if you want the value of a variable to be printed into a string, you cannot write "a=mc+3" but rather a = " & mc & "+3".

I am using Vlookup formula from another workbook in my code. The other workbook named as a variable TifuliWB Workbook but I keep getting an error run time error 1004. I am sure that it's such a small mistake of mine that stops the sub but I can't know what.
With MainWB.Worksheets(2)
LR = .Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
.Range("J2:J" & LR).FormulaR1C1 = _
"=VLOOKUP(RC[-8]," '"[" & TifuliWB.Worksheets(1) & "]"'"!C1:C71,65,FALSE)"
.Range("J2:J" & LR).NumberFormat = "m/d/yyyy"
.Cells.Copy
End With
Try referencing the columns' full external address instead of concatenating in the workbook and worksheet name.
.Range("J2:J" & LR).FormulaR1C1 = _
"=VLOOKUP(RC[-8]," & TifuliWB.Worksheets(1).range("A:BS").address(1, 1, external:=true, referencestyle:=xlr1c1) & ",65,FALSE)"
'alternately in xlA1 style
.Range("J2:J" & LR).Formula = _
"=VLOOKUP(J2," & TifuliWB.Worksheets(1).range("A:BS").address(1, 1, external:=true) & ",65,FALSE)"
Your original should have used the .Name or .FullName property and there were some string concatenation issues.
.Range("J2:J" & LR).FormulaR1C1 = _
"=VLOOKUP(RC[-8], '[" & TifuliWB.fullname & "]" & TifuliWB.Worksheets(1).name & "'!C1:C71,65,FALSE)"
I am trying to do a Vlookup in my code and I have few integer variables. It gives me the error:
Run-time Error 1004
The code stops in the line of vlookup. All the variables have values. If someone can see where the problem, please let me know.
'Employees
empWS.Range("D1:G" & empLR).Copy
With tmpWB.Worksheets(2)
.Cells(1, 1).PasteSpecial xlPasteValues
.Range("$A$1:$D$" & empLR).AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:=1
.Range("A2:D" & empLR).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible).EntireRow.Delete
.ShowAllData
empLR = .Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
.Columns(1).Delete
.Range("D1").Value = "start date"
.Range("D2:D" & empLR).FormulaR1C1 = "=VLOOKUP(RC[-3],SAP!R1C1:R " & SLRow & " C70, StartColumn,0)" 'it stops here
.Columns("A:D").AutoFit
End With
"=VLOOKUP(RC[-3],SAP!R1C1:R " & SLRow & " C70," & StartColumn & ",0)"
You need to put startcolumn outside the speech marks
EDIT
"=VLOOKUP(RC[-3],SAP!R1C1:R" & SLRow & " C70," & StartColumn & ",0)"
(Patrick Honorez spotted that there was an extra space after R in the first bit)
Try removing extra spaces:
.Range("D2:D" & empLR).FormulaR1C1 = "=VLOOKUP(RC[-3],SAP!R1C1:R" & SLRow & "C70, StartColumn,0)"
Space in a range address is an intersection operator.
I want to create a macro that check all the cells of a column and if the first two characters of a cell is "BB" then i want the macro to extract three characters from the cell and paste it to the next column but a the corresponding row.
But my formula after the if clause is not working.
this is what i have done since:
Sub test()
Dim lmid As String
Dim srange, SelData, ExtBbFor As String
Dim lastrow As Long
Dim i, icount As Integer
lastrow = ActiveSheet.Range("B30000").End(xlUp).Row
srange = "G1:G" & lastrow
SelData = "A1:G" & lastrow
Range(srange).Formula = "=mid(E1,1,3)"
For i = 1 To lastrow
If InStr(1, LCase(Range("E" & i)), "bb") <> 0 Then
Range("G" & i).Formula = "=mid("E & i", 4, 3)"
End If
Next i
End Sub
thanks in advance
Try with below. It will work
Range("G" & i).Value = Mid(Range("E" & i), 4, 3)
If the cell is not limited to 7 then you need as below
Range("G" & i).Value = "=Mid(E" & i & ", 3, " & Len(E & "& i & ") & ")"
It will extract from the 3rd character up to the last character in a cell.
Your syntax is wrong where you're trying to concatenate strings, I think you mean to use:
Range("G" & i).Formula = "=MID(E" & i & ",4,3)"
Based on your code I think this will do the exact same thing without having to loop or declare any variables:
Sub test()
With Range("G1:G" & Cells(Rows.Count, 2).End(xlUp).Row)
.FormulaR1C1 = "=IF(UPPER(LEFT(RC[-2],2))=""BB"",MID(RC[-2],4,3),"""")"
.Value = .Value
End With
End Sub
This question already has an answer here:
Using VBA to place multiple formulas in one cell
(1 answer)
Closed 6 years ago.
I'm trying to fill cells with a for loop like this:
For i = 1 To Target
Range("C" & i & ":C" & i ).Formula = "='Sheet1'!A" & i & "/" & "'Sheet2'!B" & i"
Next i
And I want to see that in the formula bar:
='Sheet1'!A1 & "/" & 'Sheet2'!B1
='Sheet1'!A2 & "/" & 'Sheet2'!B2
...
Unfortunately it's not working. If I try only the first part like that:
For i = 1 To Target
Range("C" & i & ":C" & i ).Formula = "='Sheet1'!A" & i
Next i
This code results this fine, but this is not enough for me:
='Sheet1'!A1
='Sheet1'!B1
...
What is wrong with my frist code?
You could try
Range("C" & i & ":C" & i).FormulaR1C1 = "=Sheet1!RC1 & ""/"" & Sheet2!RC2"
If you are having trouble with double quotes in a concatenated string, I sugest you remove as many as you can. Single characters can be referred to by their ASCII code number with the Chr function. The / character is 47.
Dim i As Long, target As Long
With ActiveSheet
target = .Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
For i = 1 To target
.Range("C" & i).Formula = "='Sheet1'!A" & i & Chr(47) & "'Sheet2'!B" & i
Next i
End With
You do not have to increment through a range is the formula is constructed properly. Either an xlA1 or xlR1C1 reference style can be used (see xlReferenceStyle enumeration).
Dim i As Long, target As Long
With ActiveSheet
target = .Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
'xlA1 style
.Range("C1:C" & target).Formula = "='Sheet1'!A1/'Sheet2'!B1"
'xlR1C1 Style
.Range("C1:C" & target).FormulaR1C1 = "='Sheet1'!RC1/'Sheet2'!RC2"
End With
Note that an xlR1C1 style requires the Range.FormulaR1C1 instead of the Range.Formula.
I'm getting an "application-defined or object-defined error" being thrown when I try to set a cell in my active sheet to a formula. I think its due to me trying to use the Sheets.Name function in the formula, see code below:
Public Sub getChannels()
Dim lastRow As Long
Dim i As Integer, counter As Integer
Dim rng As Range, rngB As Range, rngC As Range
Dim sht As Worksheet
Dim test As String
Set sht = Sheets("Summary Sheet - 30-07-2015")
sht.Activate
lastRow = sht.Cells(sht.Rows.Count, "B").End(xlUp).Row
For counter = 1 To lastRow Step 3
If ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 12) = "LTE 2C" Then
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 16) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[55],MATCH(""'"" & sht.name &""'""!RC[-14],'LTE 2C'!C[-11],0))"
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 17) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[53],MATCH(""'"" & sht.name &""'""!RC[-15],'LTE 2C'!C[-12],0))"
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 18) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[55],MATCH(""'"" & sht.name &""'""!RC[-16],'LTE 2C'!C[-13],0))"
Range("P" & counter & ":R" & counter).Select
Selection.Copy
Range("P" & counter + 1 & ":P" & counter + 2).Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
End If
Next
End Sub
Am I missing something obvious?
Change your formula like this:
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 16) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[55],MATCH(" & "'" & sht.name & "'" & "!RC[-14],'LTE 2C'!C[-11],0))"
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 17) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[53],MATCH(" & "'" & sht.name & "'" & "!RC[-15],'LTE 2C'!C[-12],0))"
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 18) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[55],MATCH(" & "'" & sht.name & "'" & "!RC[-16],'LTE 2C'!C[-13],0))"
Nelly is correct, but another way to do this would be to simply remove the unnecessary extra string for each apostrophe and replace it with this:
ActiveSheet.Cells(counter, 16) = _
"=INDEX('LTE 2C'!C[55],MATCH('" & sht.name & "'!RC[-14],'LTE 2C'!C[-11],0))"
Where the apostrophes are just attached to the strings before and after. It really makes no difference, but it removes the extra (&)s.
