I am running sql server 2012 on my local network (LAN) and its working perfectly. Now i need my remote computers (not on LAN) to connect with this server. What do I need for that? do i need static ip for the server? Plz tell me the way.
You don't need a static IP for the connection itself, but if you have a dynamic IP then you need a way for the remote computers to know what the IP is, e.g. a dynamic DNS.
First you need to configure client location Router settings, then open SQL server tcp port( 1433 ) or Udp port (1434 ) in that location.
Follow these steps
1:Go to the router settings.
2:Now go to NAT link then enter your System's IP and SQL server port then click save & apply.
Now in web.config file your connection should be like this
connectionStrings>
<add name="dbconnection" connectionString="Data Source=tcp: remote location ip (public ip address),1433;Initial Catalog=Education;uid=sa;pwd=123" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>

I have a java program that uses SQL queries. The goal is to send them from my home PC to a workstation on a different network elsewhere.
The SQL server is on Windows Server and I opened port 1433 for inbound connections. From that computer, I can successfully ping the port. However, I can't ping the port from the public ip address, only the local (192.168...), so it doesn't work if I were to try to ping it from my home computer.
Is there a way that I can ping it from my home computer? If so, how would I specify the address for JDBC?
Thanks!
It sounds like your Windows Server is behind an internet gateway/router. You need to configure the gateway to allow and forward inbound connections to TCP port 1433 to the IP of the computer that has SQL Server installed.
Here are some guides that explain how to enable port forwarding on different devices:
How to Forward Ports on Your Router (lifewire.com)
How to Port Forward (No-IP.com)
Also, note that we can ping IP addresses, not ports.
I would like to connect the remote machine to my local VPN and then ssh to that remote machine from the other machines in my local network.
Is this possible? Will the remote machine get new IP which will be visible in my local network? Do I need to configure anything manually?
I'm using FortiClient for VPN.
Yes this is absolutely possible. Try Following steps
1-Deploy VPN and assign the ipranges in DHCP public or private
2-Make Sure to turn off the firewall for vpn server for now
3-Turn off the Clients Firewall
4-Connect to VPN
5-If your connection loose try to see the client's IP from server
side and try to take SSH
6-Take ssh from your server
7- Ping the server from other local machines
8-Then enable the server side firewall and see the effect if ssh is
still possible if not make a rule for specific port for ssh
Like the title says. I have to connect to a database with some IP address, port , login name and login password.
I tried using the Server Explorer in the Visual studio 2015. The problem i have is that don't know how to add the port number in the connection. Shall the port number be added like ip:port or ip,port in the server name tab of Visual Server Explorer?
Also is there anyway to do this in the connectionStrings tag of WebConfig?
<connectionStrings>
<add name="ConnectionName1" connectionString="DataSource=xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:xxxx"/>
</connectionStrings>
SQL Server uses comma as the port separator for connections, for example:
DataSource=xxx.xxx.xxx.xx,xxxx

i have an ibm server, a tp-link router with an static ip and DHCP activated, i want to configure one of the net boards in the ibm server.
I installed Ububntu server and access to the net board configuration using this command:
vi /etc/network/interfaces
I configure the server with this
address -> i put an ip that i resrve in the router
netmask
network
broadcast
gateway
I have a subdomain from no ip i have entered in the server so i can do remote connection to the server throw this subdomain and ssh. I have put the subdomain in /etc/host.conf
The thing is i have access to the subdomain in the web and out of the LAN net. But when i try to connect to the server throw ssh it's gave me connection refused.
EDIT:
Using the command arp-scan -I eth0 -l i found that the IP of the server is asigned two times it's look like it's the same ethernet board with two MAC address thar are the same except the las number.
Ok, what's work for me was to reinstall openssh on the server and in my computer. After that I have access throw ssh.
We recently installed a sonic firewall on our network. We have a SQL 2005 express server that's configured to listen on dynamic ports. In its configuration manager the dynamic port number is set as 1067 with its default port still 1433.
From my understanding we need to have the following ports open for it to work:
Tcp 1433
Tcp 1067
Udp 1434
Problem is we still cannot connect to the server from outside. When we switch off/disconnect the firewall we can can access the server.
This tells me that the SQL server's setup is fine and the that the problem must be some port we are missing on the firewall.
Any ideas?
Issue netstat -an from an MS-DOS command and try to find what are all ports opend as given in the artilce at

and configuring SQL 2005 to allow connections at

Client-Server Communication Over a Firewall
Setting up a client to communicate to a SQL Server over a firewall is a simple three-step process:
Make SQL Server listen on a specific port on TCP (the default is 1433) or RPC (the default is a random port greater than 1023). You have to cycle the server after this change.
Configure your firewall server to allow traffic on the specific .
Make the client (on the other side of firewall) use the appropriate connection string to talk to the on the server. You can also use the Client Configuration Utility to add an "Advanced" entry with the appropriate Net-Library and connection string.
