I've downloaded SSRS 2014 (ExpressAdv 32BIT\SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe) and I've found the SQL reporting services configuration manager but I can't find how to launch SSRS to build reports?
I'm probably missing something very obvious so apologies for basic question.
I can query in my management studio fine and the connection to the studio is good in the configuration manager.
Any help as always much appreciated.
Image below of everything downloaded.
Kind regards
You need Visual Studio(Also known as SSDT or BIDS) to build reports. Check if that is installed.

This error just started occurring on a few developers' systems across several packages, but I can't track down a specific cause or update. We have SSIS processes created across various targets (SQL 2012 and up), but when I open them in Visual Studio 2019 this error occurs:
Error loading XXXXXXX.dtsx: There was an exception while loading Script Task from XML: System.Exception: The Script Task "ST_36ae893a14204fac97ce8ce3b4ce8ebb" uses version 16.0 script that is not supported in this release of Integration Services. To run the package, use the Script Task to create a new VSTA script. In most cases, scripts are converted automatically to use a supported version, when you open a SQL Server Integration Services package in %SQL_PRODUCT_SHORT_NAME% Integration Services.
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.ScriptTask.ScriptTask.LoadFromXML(XmlElement elemProj, IDTSInfoEvents events)
I can open the script task, but it's as if it's new, none of the existing code is there. Some of the older packages I can open in like Visual Studio 2017 and they work, but in Visual Studio 2019 not so much. Even some packages built in Visual Studio 2019 are doing this. Here's my dev environment:
Microsoft Visual Studio Enterprise 2019
Version 16.11.17
VisualStudio.16.Release/16.11.17+32630.194
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.8.04084
SQL Server Data Tools 16.0.62205.05200
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools
SQL Server Integration Services 16.0.948.0
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
I've tried changing the Target server to different versions, but it seems once the issue occurs it resets the script task removing all code. I'm really confused.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
Not sure if this is a good answer, but it does seem to fix the issue. I'm using SQL Server Integration Services 16.0.948.0 (v4.3), but if I go back down to 15.0.2000.180 (v3.16) the issue seems to go away. So, it's something with version 4.0 and up. Not ideal to go backwards as we're losing some of the updates - but it gets me going again. If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know.
Hi guys I have a visual basic project and I developed it using visual studio 2010 and sql server 2008 for my database.
Now, I want to make an installer that will include my sql server database.
I just used software ADVANCES INSTALLER but it didn't work out.
Help guys. Thanks in advance
Note: Can I make it like InFLOW inventory System installer? It's using also sql server database. Just hoping.
I use Advanced Installer for several years and for deploying database files I use their SQL Databases page. For example, for attaching an MDF file to an SQL instance you can add the MDF file in "Files and Folders" page and use, in SQL Databses page, a script like this.
You can check out this tutorial to get a starting point about how you can configure the SQL Databses page in Advanced Installer.
Hope this info is useful.
It's my very first post on this forum.
I have stuck with the Microsoft SSIS packages and I really don't knot how to beat it. I have mentioned SSIS package files and I tried to open it with Business Intelligence Development Studio on SQL Server 2005 - it resulted with an error which informs I need another version of it - I think it ment BIDS with SQL Server 2008.
As I have read further it appeared there is no free version of BIDS with SQL Server 2008.
If You have any idea how to handle it please let me know. Thanks for any ideas.
Download the SQL Server Express 2008 with Advanced Services version and it should give you a free version of the BIDS environment. The link is http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=1842
I can't find Business Intelligence Development Studio in Sql Server 2005.
I have installed Visual Studio 2008 and Sql Server 2005 Standard edition.
How can i view
You can tell if it is installed by looking at "new project" in Visual Studio. Do you have BI projects available?
If so, this is it. You can now develop BI stuff.
If not, did you check the box under client tools when installing? Run install again.
BIDS isn't a separate install but a Visual Studio plug-in
You do need to select it when installing though. You could probably run a reinstall and add it if you don't have it already.
while installing, you might have not selected the feature. in this case, re run the Installation process.
You Must Install SSDT(Sql Server Data Tools) Tools
When you Installed that , and you want Create New Project, you must see Business Intelligence Section in part of Template
Basic Question -
I have installed SQL Server Express 2008 with integrated SP1. This is the database engine alone.
I realise now that I also need the express studio in order to perform a few tasks. I have installed it, however I know that it was the original installer from before SP1 was released.
I have tried it and it appears to work fine but should I install SP1 / could something unforeseen happen in the future?
Some background! -
I wrote out the question and just realised that people probably don't care, so I just summed it up above!
After reading many different sites and guides, the install order for Visual Studio 2008 really confused me.
I really wanted to install SQL Server Express 2008 with advanced services, however on my other machine I had so many problems with it not being detected with Visual Studio, I just wanted an easy life!
I found the download from Microsoft that had SQL Server Express 2008 with SP1 integrated, however it was only the basic engine without any addons. (At the end of the day, as much as I wouldn't mind reporting services, I doubt I will need to use it any time soon).
I installed this, and after applying the hotfix (for x64 sql) my Visual studio can detect and use it no problem.
Now, I want to use Management Studio Express to write a few SQL scripts. The installer is obviously the original one. It seems to work fine, but I cannot find out any information - do I need to install SP1 for it?
Just install it, if its found something it can update - it will, if not... it won't....
Thanks to the wonder of Windows Installer (and I don't mean "I wonder why it's doing that?"--I mean like "This is wonderful!") it is unlikely that you have caused any big issues by running the older version afterwards.
So, yeah, you can probably just install the SQL 2008 Express Management Tools with no worries. If you want to be sure, afterwards just run the SP1 installer and it will make sure everything's up-to-date.
I always make sure to apply patches to client tools as well as server services. There is no reason to take the chance that your client tools have fallen behind in servicing.
