What does the "IO Error: Socket read timed out" means (SQL developer) - sql

When I try to open SQL developer then I am getting this error:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
IO Error: Socket read timed out
The Network Adapter could not establish the connection Vendor code 17002
What is the problem?

Typical causes for that error:
Your database listener is not running
It is running, but maybe there is a firewall intervening
It is running, no firewall issue, but you have provided incorrect connection details.

Make sure your installation is on a LOCAL drive!
If your SQL Developer is launched from a network location (specifically, a different location than your database network location), that could be the issue.
I was having the same problem and I moved my installation to my local drive and it connected right away :)

Above answers are exact causes but to resolve this:
Go to server machine and login as root then run:
( # xhost + )
Then come to oracle user and run:
( $ lsnrctl reload LISTENER_NAME )

sql server 2012 copy database failed between two instances on the same host

I am learning the sql server 2012 and got stuck when using the copy datase, trying to figure out why.
I created two instances on the same host, using administrator, windows authentication.
(the default instance:iZp0w14yqtvxcmZ, the second instance: iZp0w14yqtvxcmZ\instance2, try to copy database from the default one to the second one)
It failed at the last step: execute sql server agent job.
here is the error log from windows event viewer:
Message: Failed to connect to server iZp0w14yqtvxcmZ.
StackTrace: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ConnectionManager.Connect()
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.TransferObjectsTask.TransferObjectsTask.OpenConnection(Server& server, ServerProperty serverProp)
InnerException-->Login failed for user 'NT Service\SQLAgent$INSTANCE2'.
Then I tried to add the login 'NT Service\SQLAgent$INSTANCE2' in the default instance. Then tried again and got another error:
Event Name: OnError
Message: An error occurred while transferring data. See the inner exception for details.
StackTrace: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Transfer.TransferData()
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.TransferObjectsTask.TransferObjectsTask.TransferExtraObjectsViaSmoTransfer()
InnerException-->Windows NT user or group 'iZp0wd5ebkvswaZ\Administrator' not found. Check the name again.
But the Adminitrator does exist in the computer management -> local user and groups -> group, so I don't know what to do now. NEED HELP !!!
Thanks a lot!
after two-day's struggling, I figured it out. The sql server agent service should use a domain-based account for a multi-server environment. Also that account should be able to log in and perform the job.
I solved the issue changing the login method to system local account.
Two instances must have the same password and open, then in this case:
insert into [EI7-PC\SQLEXPRESS2].[MYCOMPANY].[dbo].[inventory] SELECT *
FROM [EI7-PC\SQLEXPRESS1].[MYCOMPANY].[dbo].[inventory] where itemno='10-0001'
The reason for the same password is unknown, this is per my experience. With two different password you may get an error about 'sa' failed to login.

Laravel keeping remote connection until all commands have finished

Toolset:
Laravel 5.2.*
LaravelCollective remote package ^5.2
Let's say I have a route http://example.com/npm when I hit this route I process some request parameters and then ssh into a remote server using the LaravelCollective remote package.
After some time I see in my logs that the connection is closed. I know this because that message is logged after the ssh command. So my applications tells me that my command is executed successfully.
But when I go and check the server there is no node_modules folder, but after hitting the route 10x is suddenly is there.
That made me think that my connection is closed even the commands where not finished. To be sure about that I started monitoring the process on ther server with the following command
ps aux
This resulted in the fact that I got my success message but the process was still running on my server, which means the output I get is not correct and it prevents a follow-up command to fail (gulp production)
I dug a bit into the source code to see that there is a way to keep that connection open but no luck so far.
The question: can I keep this connection open until the commands are definitely finished so that my response to the end user is correct?

Aginity Workbench Redshift Server Connection Error

I've downloaded Aginity Workbench for Redshift, version 4.3.
I'm receiving the error message
The Connection is not open
I selected my server endpoint by using this document: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/gsg/rs-gsg-connect-to-cluster.html
example from link: examplecluster.userid.us-west-2.redshift.amazonaws.com
Port is 5439
I noticed right away that I could select a database from the dropdown. If I supply the database name I still get the error message "The connection is not open", does anybody know what I'm missing? Thanks.
lowercase loginid should fix your issue.
This could be several things.
Does the instance require SSL connections? If so, select 'require' for the SSL mode in the connection setup.
Also, the link doesn't typically contain a 'userid' (examplecluster.userid.us-west-2.redshift.amazonaws.com). You can get the endpoint from the configuration tab in AWS management console for the redshift instance. The page looks just like the image referenced in the doc here.
http://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/gsg/rs-gsg-connect-to-cluster.html
The Connection is not open is the error at beginning stage, so could you please check if there are any firewall issue. run the command from your computer:
telnet examplecluster.userid.us-west-2.redshift.amazonaws.com 5439
If can't, you need check the security group setting on that redshift cluster instance and open inbound port 5439 to public or your own IP address.

Error Opening CrystalReport viewer

I have this problem which I am trying to debug for a lot of time.
The setup is like this:
i. The application is a Windows application developed using VS2005, .net 2.0.
ii. I use the Cyrstal reports component Crystal Report Viewer and dynamically display various reports in the same form.
iii. The db is SQLSERVER Express 2005 and situated on a different machine.
When I run the application on the db server, I am able to view the report. However, when I run the application on a different machine which is connected to the above dbServer, I get an error. ( I dont get this error on my dev setup)

Use datasource=servername or ip address\instance name if available, port number
Default port number is 1433 or 1434
My problem was solved with this. Posting for the use of others.
If this is a standard installation of SQL Server Express, bear in mind that the only connection method installed by default is shared memory, and is only available on the server -- you would need to enable another connection protocol such as Named pipes or TCP/IP. To turn networking on, Use SQL Server Configuration Manager to enable relevant protocols and start SQL Browser.
It's telling you exactly what's wrong.
Details:Logon failed.
Great, we can't logon.
(Invalid Instance()).]Invalid
connection.
Okay. I bet we have "localhost" as part of the instance name in my connection string. Since I'm no longer on the "localhost", this obviously won't work. Let's try there first. Then perhaps it's the credentials that I'm using to query my database. Usually what I do is create a RO user that can only do selects on my db and use that for CR. If none of these are getting me close, let's try making sure that remote connections are enabled for SQLEXPRESS
Unable to connect: incorrect log on
parameters.
Ok it's definitely a connection issue.
