When I lock screen in Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS it logs out from skype account.
I would like it not.
How can I fix this issue?
I am not used with Ubuntu but in Windows this problem can occur when the power management makes the network connection to be closed when the pc is locked. Take a look over the network configurations in order to not allow the computer to close it.

The problem was described here - https://communities.vmware.com/thread/612551
but anyone has no answer for it.
Generally, the problem is like so:
launch vm
connect usb stick or usb phone cable
vm freezes
it is not possible to terminate vmware-vmx.exe process (even as a SYSTEM user with highest privs).
The issue occurs on vmware workstation 14 & 15 on Windows 10 Pro Build 1903
Also tried disabling windows defender (maybe some strange scan policy) but no results.
Tried also to change almost every setting in workstation but no results...
please help
I was facing exactly the same issue and I have finally found the solution.
Update to VMWare Workstation version 15.5. Update the VM Tools in the Guest operating System, and it works!! Tried with Android Devices, in USB Tethering Mode also.
I am running FreeNAS 11.1-U5 at home. I have everything configured and have created VM's for Windows Server, Ubuntu, pfSense, FreePBX. I was able to install Windows and Ubuntu, but shortly after (a few hours after installing them), and after turning them off through the FreeNAS GUI, they have stopped turning on. FreeNAS reports at the top of the GUI that the start was successful, but the VM details still read "stopped".
I have run the VM's before and have the required settings in my CMOS configured for the Host (FreeNAS machine). Restarting the host will fix the problem for a while and it will let me work with the VM's, but I cannot keep restarting FreeNAS. Can anyone tell me why this happens and how to fix it please?
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 on VmWare-Player 10. My host system is Windows 7. It worked fine, but since I restarted my host system (I have done this often and it was working without any problems) it stucks at the ubuntu boot up:
I have restarted my host system and it locked again:
Do I have to change something in the log files or how can I fix this?
Thanks in advance,
clax
I am running a virtual machine in Bluemix and want to open the OS's desktop GUI. How do I do this? Thanks for your help.
I've edited your question to what I think you're asking: How can I open the desktop GUI on my virtual machine in Bluemix?
Assuming I understand the question correctly:
To open the desktop GUI on a remote virtual machine, use Virtual Network Computing (VNC). This solution is not specific to Bluemix; it'll work with a VM running on any platform, as long as the VM is running an OS that supports VNC.
To use VNC, you need to have a VNC server running in your VM's OS. You will then run a VNC client (a.k.a. viewer) on your computer to display the VM's desktop. The specific instructions depend on the OS running in the VM and on your computer.
For example, assuming your VM is running Ubuntu v14.04, these resources explain what to do (and a search will find other resources):
"How to Install and Configure VNC on Ubuntu 14.04" -- Installs XFCE4 as the VNC server
"How To Install And Configure VNC On Ubuntu 14.04" -- Also installs XFCE4.
"How to Install VNC Server on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS" -- Installs TightVNC as the VNC server
For a VNC client, I actually connect to remote VMs via a local VM running Ubutu 14.04, so I use Vinagre (a.k.a. the Remote Desktop Viewer app). Options listed by other authors include TightVNC, RealVNC, or UltraVNC.
Good luck and thanks for using Bluemix.
From what I understand, you need some remote desktop tool to get to the UI of the OS of your virtual machine. Some tools available: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/applications/7-of-the-best-linux-remote-desktop-clients-716346
So here's the deal, I recently started to get into the whole server world and seriously genius and practical! I started slow with file sharing and then remote login. I now can manage to login into my server with ssh and it's great but sometimes command line interface is not enough for what I want to do. So I remembered that in my university students where able to login with their university-account into any computer connected to university server, wether it was Windows, FreeBSD or any GNU/Linux distribution such as Debian or Fedora. So I'm trying to do the same at home. My server is up and running on Debian now I now want to be able to login to my server with a desktop environment, like in my university. The client I'm using is MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion. But I don't know what protocol is that or how to set it up any clue?
What you are looking for is VNC (Virtual Network Computing).
