Hi Apologies if this has been posted below but I cannot seem to find a solution.
I have installed lamp server with ubuntu 14.04 and cannot connect to my magento install from my local network.
I also have joomla installed and it works fine when accessed from the network so I don’t think it is an issue with ports or firewalls. As far as i know i did not select ssh at the magento install.
I need this to work so that I can see how my website displays on mobile devices.
The following setting are set in my /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.conf:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster#localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www/html
ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
It must be magento specific - as it works in joomla. Not sure if this is relevant but I do not have a .htaccess file in my magento directory.
also it works fine when accessed from the machine where the apache2 server is insatlled for joomla and magento. I have added port forwarding for ports 80, 443 and 8888 on my router to the machine with lamp server.
Try changing entry from localhost to your ip address in magento admin system》configuration 》Web for secure and unsecure url. Your configuration for apache is okay you just have the url rewritten when you access your site.

I want to access my virtual hosts (websites) that I've set up in my VirtualBox -> Ubuntu-Server 18. I have apache2 installed and everything is setup.
The host machine (macOS) can presently gain access to the default website of apache2 in the guest (Ubuntu-server) through a Port Forwarding rule I have assigned in the VirtualBox Network Settings:
127.0.0.1:8000 -> 10.0.2.15:80
I've set up a virtual host in my guest machine with the following configuration:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName dropn.taxi
ServerAdmin admin#dropn.taxi
DocumentRoot /var/www/dropn.taxi/public_html
ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
The DocumentRoot directory mentioned above exists and has the files necessary to serve a basic "Hello World" home page. I've tested it with my apache installed in my local machine as well. The website's not the problem.
But everytime I access localhost:8000 from the local machine, I'm greeted with an Ubnutu-Apache greetings page. Whereas when I try localhost:8000/dropn.taxi, I get a 404 page. I've researched quite a bit and the closest I can get to a solution is what is suggested in this page:
Ubuntu Apache2 local virtual hosts url not found
Simply put: How can I access virtual hosts of the guest machine (VM) from the host machine?
Still not specific to my case. Would appreciate any help in this regards.
localhost in the apache2 server is set to point to /var/www/html by default. For the virtual hosts to work properly, the domain name accessing them must be what is defined in the ServerName field.
localhost:8000/dropn.taxi would translate to 127.0.0.1/dropn.taxi in the VM guest. Which means, it is trying to access the /var/www/html/dropn.taxi, which, ultimately does not exist, hence the 404 error.
The solution to this is to add dropn.taxi to the /etc/hosts file in both the Host Machine and the VM. The line would look like:
127.0.0.1 localhost dropn.taxi
While accessing from the Host Machine, we use dropn.taxi:8000 in the browser whereas the port :8000 is not used in the guest machine. This way, whenever accessing the virtual hosts, the domain name accessing them matches the ServerName field and it simply works!
I have a server and registered a domain - say mysite.com - that is pointing to the IP address of the server. I tested the setup with a django project in the default.conf file. This works without a flaw, but my goal is to move this django site to a subdomain. As this didn't work as expected, I tried to get a minimal example working with a redirect.
This is what I have:
sites-available/sub.conf
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName sub.mysite.com
RedirectPermanent / https://google.com/
</VirtualHost>
I enabled the site via a2ensite sub and service apache2 reload. When visiting sub.mysite.com all get is
Server not found
What am I missing?
I'm trying to get Apache 2.4.10 on Debian 8 "Jessie" up and running with multiple websites hosted on it. This might be an obvious and already answered question but I've never had the need to set-up a dedicated web host (usually just drop a WAMP server for development needs or pick up a web hosting service) and so far I have not had any luck finding an answer to my problem (I've found the complete opposite answers of what I'm trying to achieve). I need to get this working because apart from just hosting a couple of websites, there will be additional software set-up, for which, a regular web hosting service won't do.
Everything seems to be working as intended but the only problem is that I can't seem to find an optimal configuration which wouldn't just block access to default vhost with 403 - Forbidden. What I need is Apache to ignore requests (not just return a 404 document but tell the browser there's nothing there) from anyone accessing the default vhost or by accessing the server directly through it's designated IP. The designated IP should be left for SSH access only (since I don't have any kind of physical access to this server).
Basically, the web server should be accessible from a web browser through "FQDN-1" and "FQDN-2" (each located in their individual directories) and access to any other web address on this server should be ignored (invoking browser "404 not found" instead of returning a server error document, which would indicate that something is there).
my current vhost files:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName FQDN-1
ServerAlias www.FQDN-1
ServerAdmin mail#FQDN-1
DocumentRoot /var/www/FQDN-1/public_html
ErrorLog /var/www/FQDN-1/logs/error.log
CustomLog /var/www/FQDN-1/logs/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
And
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName FQDN-2
ServerAlias www.FQDN-2
ServerAdmin mail#FQDN-2
DocumentRoot /var/www/FQDN-2/public_html
ErrorLog /var/www/FQDN-2/logs/error.log
CustomLog /var/www/FQDN-2/logs/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
The default vhost has been disabled through "a2dissite 000-default"
Iptables block everything except tcp port 80 and 22 (SSH access is whitelisted in iptables to just few specific iPs).
You can let the built-in name-based vhosting do the work for you. You can simply setup an additional (non default / non-first listed for *:80) virtualhost with
ServerName your-ip
and put a simple rule like
RewriteEngine ON
RewriteRule ^ .* [F]
or
Redirect 403 /
First of all, apologies for my English.
I've been reading and reading guides last week a lot hours with no success. I bought a domain + hosting but due bad performance I've got a cheap vps to use as hosting. Currently my setup is:
A domain .com with an A record pointed to my vps ip.
A unmanaged vps with Ubuntu 14.04.2 64 bits to use as hosting for my wordpress with LAMP stack with default setup (I didn't changed any setting on apache, using default virtualhost).
My site works fine but I'm don't know how create subdomains with different directories. For example, my website.com files are in /var/www/html and I'd like to create subdomain.website.com with the files in other directory, let's say /var/www/subdomain.
I checked a lot tutorials and they say to create a virtual server on apache (I use webmin) and then an A record for the subdomain pointing to the server ip.
The problem is that when I enter to subdomain.website.com I see the content from main domain (/var/www/html) and not from "/var/www/subdomain"
I don't want ask you for a full guide step by step, I just need know where I need to start for achieve a subdomain with a different directory because usually I always used hosting services with tools like cpanel to create subdomains pointed to directories in 2 clicks.
I'm a full newbie with Apache/dns management.
Thanks a lot for your time!
Create a virtual host in Apache by creating a file at /etc/apache2/sites-available/subdomain.website.com.conf
In that file, add the following
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin admin#example.com
ServerName subdomain.website.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/subdomain.website.com/public_html
ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
Now place your subdomain.website.com files at
/var/www/subdomain.website.com/public_html
Then enable the new virtual host by sudo a2ensite subdomain.website.com
After placing the files, if you get a 403 forbidden error, check for permissions of the DocumentRoot folder.

I have a VPS running CentOS 5. I want to point multiple domains at the same VPS (point them at the same IP), but serve up distinct websites for each domain.
So, the setup I want is like this:
site1.com ----> 127.0.0.1 ----> /var/www/html/site1.com/
site2.com ----> 127.0.0.1 ----> /var/www/html/site2.com/
I've tried setting up virtual hosts through the CentOS GUI for Apache, but they don't seem to be working. Only the first virtual host added will work (i.e. If I add site1.com first, both domains direct to that site. If I add site2.com first, both domains direct to that site.)
What might I be doing wrong? Is there an effective step-by-step tutorial for newcomers to get me started?
Update
Please remember, I have little to no experience working with CentOS and Linux ... but I'm learning.
To those who asked to see the directives I'm using, here's what CentOS added to the bottom of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf when I used the built-in Apache GUI:
<VirtualHost skylarkapp.com:80>
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/skylarkapp.com
<Directory "/var/www/html/skylarkapp.com">
allow from all
Options +Indexes
</Directory>
ServerName skylarkapp.com
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost eamann.com:80>
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/eamann
<Directory "/var/www/html/eamann">
allow from all
Options +Indexes
</Directory>
ServerName eamann.com
</VirtualHost>
At the moment, all traffic to both skylarkapp.com and eamann.com on this system direct to the content of /var/www/html/skylarkapp.com.
Also, I'm using my Windows hosts file to manually point eamann.com to this server (204.92.23.6) because I'm in the process of migrating a live site. I want to get things working on the server before I actually move things from one box to another.
Name-based virtual hosts must be turned on explicitly with NameVirtualHost *:80. See http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/name-based.html
This line:
<VirtualHost eamann.com:80>
won't work since eamann.com won't resolve to your CentOS server's IP address (only your Windows machine resolves eamann.com to 204.92.23.6). Try making apache listed on any IP by replacing with:
<VirtualHost *:80>
You probably also want:
ServerAlias www.eamann.com
to allow visitors to www.eamann.com to see the site as well. Restart apache after making these changes:
service httpd restart
