Switching between Phone/Windows XAML editor preview in VS2013? - xaml

I have a universal app for Windows and Phone in VS2013, and I have a page in the shared project of the solution.
When creating pages in the Windows project, the XAML preview window shows a tablet.
When creating pages in the Phone project, the XAML preview window shows a phone.
When creating pages in the shared project, the XAML preview window shows a... tablet.
As I try to put more pages in the shared project, I'd like to have a quick way to sanity-check my UI on both form factors without having to actually run the project. Sadly, there is no option in the Device panel to switch between preview devices.
How can I preview the XAML of a shared project page in the phone without actually running the project?

You don't need to run the project.
There is an easy way to switch between the different design views using the dropdown that is present above the xaml code of the shared project as shown below.
Step 1: Locate the dropdown
Step 2: Click on the dropdown arrow
Step 3: Change the Project to .WindowsPhone
Step 4: Change it back whenever required.
Hope it helps

In your XAML View. Above the XAML code in the top tool bar you can find a dropdown that will let you switch between YourApp.Windows and YourApp.WindowsPhone. This way you can easily switch views.
Hope it helps.

changes to xamarin mainpage are not effective on next run

I have created a Cross platform application to create an android application. In Main page I have a toolbar and listview that lists the data from sqlite database. it was working all well and now when I am trying to do change to the same screen to add some more controls, its not working when I run the project to debug. New controls are not visible on the screen. Its always showing the old screen as it is.
i don't have the rep to comment, but I've found that kind of scenario often with Android.
Changing UI components don't update.
When I do UI changes I'll often uninstall the app off the Android first, as the most reliable way, as I'm sure I've done the "clean solution", delete bin/obj folders and still had issues with the app on the droid not being fully updated to the new UI.

XamlSpy prevent me from doing actions

I installed XamlSpy using NuGet in my UWP app.
I debug my application and connect it successfully using the XamlSpy.
The problem is that every mouse hover is responses by XamlSpy what prevents me from clicking on buttons etc'...

How can I start inspect only when needed
According to this article, Ctrl+Shift is worked for XAML Spy 2. By testing on my side, I guess you are using XAML Spy 3.
In that case, when you are using the XAML Spy desktop app to inspect, the "Select Visual" button which is for moving your mouse to the app, and click to select a visual in the user interface, is highlighted by default. You may need to click it to not highlight the button to stop inspecting, and click again can start inspecting again when you needed.

Windows 8, Metro app: About dialog box guidelines or suggestions

Are About dialog boxes "dead" in Windows 8 Metro apps? I looked over quite a few apps and screenshots of apps in the Windows store, and did not find any "inspiration".
Is there any guidelines from Microsoft or any article that discusses this issue?
What do you think is the best way to show a dialog box/popup that shows the app name, version, author and a link to the app's home page?
I am thinking of a icon button in the bottom appbar, something like "About Appname", that opens a popup with this information. I am using C# and XAML.
You would place the About into the Settings pane via the Settings Charm using the Setting Contract. You can see the About in almost all of the apps in the Store today. Quick start on adding Settings can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/xaml/hh872190.aspx
Guidelines for app settings here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh770544.aspx
Take a look here.
It lets you create dialogs/flyouts very easily from a UserControl. A few lines of boiler plate and you are done. Takes care of animation, UI management etc.

How do I add buttons to Aero Peek in VB6?

I'm working on a program that can play songs off an iPod. I want to be able to put functional Back, Play/Pause and Next buttons on its Aero Peek thumbnail like this:
For those who can't see it: http://i45.tinypic.com/1yua0m.png
How would I do this in VB6?
EDIT: Can I also create a jump list for my app? For this app, I only need taskbar jump lists. For others, I'll need taskbar and start menu jump lists so posting code to achieve both would be appreciated.
EDIT 2: I have uploaded a sample of how to use the ITaskBarList3 interface to add buttons to the window preview (and handle their click events), add an icon overlay, clip the window preview and add a progress bar to the program's taskbutton. Download it here.
Look at the Taskbar Thumbnail Toolbar feature of Windows Explorer. This does use a COM interface so I don't know how practical it is to use for VB but I beliver the IDLs are available if you look.
You can also find a C# example and the UI guidelines on MSDN.
The Jumplist information is also covered on the same pages.

Menu bar button panels in Cocoa?

When I click on buttons in the menu bar (such as "About Program") when the program is running a new window pops up displaying information. How do I edit the windows associated with the buttons?
In Interface builder I manage to load "Main Menu" which allows me to customize the menu bar, but it doesn't allow me to work with the windows associated with the buttons. How would I edit these windows?
Mac OSX Snow Leopard, Xcode 3.2.6
EDIT: I am not specifically asking for steps for the "About Panel". I am looking for a general procedure for editing panels associated with buttons in the menu bar. In addition to the "About" panel I would also want to work with panels such as the "Help" panel. The "About" panel was just an example.
The standard About panel isn't in your nib; it's generated within the framework.
You can change the text of the panel by writing a Credits.rtf or Credits.html file and including that in your app bundle. (You may already have Credits.rtf supplied by the project template. If so, you should just edit that.)
If you want to make more radical changes, you'll need to create your own panel and change your About menu item to show it instead.
As far as a general procedure...no, there's no single procedure that would let you customize any standard panel in the same way. They all have their own mechanisms (e.g. some can display more panes when plug-in components are installed; some provide APIs to hide or show certain parts; some, like the About box, use bundle filename conventions to decide what to do).
For the Help panel specifically...you can't change anything about it except the web page (i.e. the help content). The toolbar, etc. is all handled by Apple. I suggest looking at this documentation for more, which also links to other important documents:
