Issue installing bower on windows - npm

I'm using Windows 7 64bit and I install Bower with
npm install -g bower
It seems to install correctly.
npm http GET https://registry.npmjs.org/amdefine
npm http 304 https://registry.npmjs.org/amdefine
C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\local\bower -> C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\local\node_
modules\bower\bin\bower
bower#1.3.3 C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\local\node_modules\bower
...
But bower is not working:
$bower
sh.exe": bower: command not found
$bower -v
sh.exe": bower: command not found
What could be wrong?

Same problem but for me I had to add the Path Environment Variable that pointed to the AppData/Roming/ folder. I have no idea why node.js would install npm in the Roming folder. If I didn't have hidden folders turned on we never would have found it.
C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\npm;
Then npm works from Node.js command prompt, and bower works from GitBash.

Check if C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\local is added to your Path Environment Variable.

Check your version of node, I was running on v0.10.15 then updated to v0.10.35 and that fixed the issue for me.

npm doesn't uninstall packages

I've been trying to remove some packages that I installed with npm but it doesn't remove them. After running npm uninstall -g package the package is still executable in my terminal and it is still in the path where npm binaries are being installed.
Also, why is npm installing packages in ~/.local/share/npm/bin/ ? It's the first time that I've seem npm installing packages there. I had a problem a few weeks ago when installing some language servers but they weren't executable, turns out I had to add ~/.local/share/npm/bin to my $PATH because that's where npm was installing everything. And now npm doesn't remove any package installed there. I've already look into the npm config (npmrc) but I don't see any option changing the install path. The only environment variable related to npm that I have is to set the user config in ~/.config/npm instead of ~/.npmrc.
I have others machines with the exact same settings and npm it's not installing packages in ~/.local/share/npm/bin/ and I'm able to uninstall packages normally.
Does anyone knows whats wrong with npm ?
npm --version 7.8.0
my config:
cache=/home/user/.cache/npm
init-module=/home/user/.config/npm/config/npm-init.js
package-lock=false
tmp=/run/user/1000/npm
Okay I noticed that if I reinstalled the packages that I couldn't remove they went into a different folder /user/bin/ with the node_modules being in /user/lib/node_modules. Before it was in ~/.local/share/npm/lib. Now with the packages were they belong I can't remove them without issues. No idea why those packages were originally installed in a different path.

npm - tarball data for material-design-icons seems to be corrupted

I'm having this error while running a npm install material-design-icons#3.0.1:
tarball data for material-design-icons#3.0.1 (sha1-mnHEh0chjrylHlGmbaaCA4zct78=) seems to be corrupted

Here it's documented as a bug, but still without an answer nor a fix.
I've tried to reinstall node, upgraded to latest npm version (currently running 6.4.1), did a cache clean --force, tried a npm install --no-optional, removed package-lock.json, removed npm & npm-cache folders from AppData directory, running everything as Administrator, but still no luck.
I even tried with material-design-icons#3.0.0 but the error remains.
If I navigate to the folder that appears in the log (node_modules\.staging\material-design-icons-7d5a1f73\action\drawable-xxhdpi), it's empty, and is the only folder that exists in the entire node_modules directory. I can delete that dir without any problems, so it does not seem to be a permissions/lock issue.
Any suggestions?
Finally, I got this fixed by:
Removing node_modules folder
Running npm update
Running npm install
As far I understand, the npm update should have updated the package.json file, but all dependencies kept the same versions as we had it before.
I resolved this with the command: npm cache verify which output:
Cache verified and compressed (C:\Programs\DCPS\npm-cache\_cacache):
Content verified: 1344 (164824963 bytes)
Content garbage-collected: 1 (3491551 bytes)
Index entries: 1522
Finished in 8.187s
The line that stands out to me is: Content garbage-collected: 1 (3491551 bytes)
Does this sort of thing happen because a new version of a package is published to npmjs without a version bump?
No need to run npm update (I didn't want to update any packages) or delete the entire node_modules folder. I solved this by
deleting package-lock.json
deleting node_modules\material-design-icons-xxxxxxx
running npm install again
If npm update is not a solution, and as deleting package-lock.json can bring issues of its own, I could solve it simply by:
deleting the node_modules/ folder
in package-lock.json, deleting the sections referencing to the corrupted package
running npm install again
If you are on windows env, I fixed it by running the cmd as administrator
You need to confirm whether the Typescript is installed and after installing typescript it worked for me
running the below comment will show the typescript version
tsc -v
If it shows some error install the typescript
npm install -g typescript
If then typescript is installed you can try checking the Angular Cli version
ng --version
If it shows some error then install Angular Cli Ref: https://cli.angular.io/
npm install -g #angular/cli
" If you are on windows env, I fixed it by running the cmd as administrator "
This worked for me. However, chromedriver was not installed. So, i installed it separately using the command 'npm install chromedriver'.
None of the answers solved my problem, because in my case was the git. Maybe someone can have the same problem.
I had some dependencies from git in the project and my git was not working on the terminal. So fixing the path for git fixed it!
I had this in Bitbucket Pipeline when using a private package.
I was missing to install git in pipeline:
script:
- apk update && apk upgrade && apk add --no-cache bash git openssh # <- THIS
- npm ci --prefer-offline
Dependency was
"some-private-package": "git+ssh://git#bitbucket.org/workspace/some-private-package#v1.0.12",`
Well I could not resolve this problem with a lot of tries so I made the download of the github ZIP, unzip and install and it worked !
download material-design-icons from github
unzip to the directory of your project (or c:\tmp)
npm install ./material-design-icons
or
npm install c:/tmp/material-design-icons

Changing PATH for npm node_modules

I've been troubleshooting problems with using npm packages for about 2 weeks now. Any node modules (I've tried gulp, gulp-cli, mocha, react, babel, and others) return a "command not found" error in Git Bash.
I have Windows 7 Professional, Node 8.11.1 (64-bit), npm 5.6.0.
What I have tried already is:
In the case of gulp-cli for Lecture 11 of this course
-- Uninstalling the package globally and reinstalling globally
-- Uninstalling and re-installing Node and npm completely
-- Changing the PATH and NODE_PATH of the Environment Variables
User variables
PATH:C:\Program Files\Git\usr\local\node_modules\;C:\Users\Millionaire\AppData\Roaming\npm;
System variables
PATH: C:\Program Files\Git\usr\local\node_modules\;%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\npm;
$ which node
/c/Program Files/nodejs/node
$which npm
/c/Program Files/nodejs/npm
$ npm list -g
C:\Program Files\Git\usr\local
Any help you can offer is very much appreciated!
I tried a few times to do
$npm list-g {package name}
for gulp and http-server and others and it kept giving me
C:\Program Files\Git\usr\local
So I added that to the system PATH environment variable. Exited and restarted Git Bash and it finally worked for me. Hallelujah.

Cannot get "npm install #feathers/cli -g" to work in the command line

I get this error message when I try installing feathers from npm
npm WARN deprecated nomnom#1.8.1: Package no longer supported. Contact support#npmjs.com for more info.
npm WARN deprecated babel-preset-es2015#6.24.1: 🙌 Thanks for using Babel: we recommend using babel-preset-env now: please read babeljs.io/env to update!
Help!!
As Vasan pointed out in the comments, running
npm install -g #feathersjs/cli
from the command prompt on Windows installs a file feathers.cmd in the folder:
%APPDATA%\npm
If this folder is not on your PATH, then feathers will not be recognised as an executable - it appears that the global install doesn't add it to the path automatically.
Editing system environment variables to add this folder to your path should make the feathers cli tools available.
Note that after altering your path you may need to restart your terminal for the updated path to be available.
Its very simple, if you have an earlier version installed, uninstall the old feathers-cli using:
npm uninstall feathers-cli -g
Then install #feathersjs/cli and upgrade a project by the following commands:
npm install #feathersjs/cli -g
cd path/to/project
feathers upgrade
I also faced with the installation issue. But got an error: 404 Not Found: babel-messages#^6.23.0. I've solved it when run npm install #feathersjs/cli -g through the windows terminal (cmd). Before that I was running it on bash.
This issue also occurs when installation is ran using Admin credential(Windows 10), reinstall without elevated cmd/powershell credential also solved the problem.

Windows: Unable to find "grunt.js" config file

Under Windows, I am getting the following error when I run grunt on my project:
Unable to find "grunt.js" config file. Do you need any --help?
I have exactly the same configuration as my mac and its failing - anyone seen this?
Here's what I did to fix this:
Uninstalled grunt globally:
npm uninstall -g grunt
Installed grunt-cli globally:
npm install -g grunt-cli
Then, in project root dir:
npm install
And all is good. Hope this works for anyone else running into this.
