In ZMQ messaging library there is large number of patterns derived from a base "Pirate" pattern. To quote the documentation:
I like to call the Pirate patterns (you'll eventually get the joke, I
hope).
I have a pretty through understanding of the ZMQ architecture, having worked with it over a half dozen projects and couple of years. Despite this, and reading basically the entire guide, I don't get the joke.
Perhaps there isn't one, but I can't help the itch that I am missing something fairly obvious. Thanks.

From the docs:
reliable request-reply (RRR) patterns that I like to call the Pirate patterns
Pirates say 'arrrr!' like RRR, hence pirate patterns.

I am in the market for a raspberry pi or alternative. I've done quite a bit of research but I can't find a raspberry pi alternative that is both more powerful, but also has the same community and add on options. So, can anyone suggest an alternative?
Note:I want one for recreation, I.E. building a robot arm, but I also want to run a low scale server.
Thanks in advance!
I love following #cnxsoft on Twitter and his blog at http://www.cnx-software.com/.
I suggest you to go to his blog and see tags like http://www.cnx-software.com/tag/development-board/ there is every week at least one new board with more and more powerful processors and lower prices... Find one that fits your needs(OS, Pins...)
I'm also not sure why this is marked with tags like "xamarin-studio" :)
I am not sure if this is the right forum, the scope seems too broad. So don't be surprised if this is closed as offtopic.
Can you say what alternatives you have looked at so far?
Try looking into the following and see if they fit your requirement :
http://arduino.cc/en/ArduinoCertified/IntelGalileo
http://beagleboard.org/black
I think you are thinking of the bananapi, or the hummingboard.

I am writing a long SQL query and I'm getting incorrect output fields. How do I debug this query?
There is no right answer to this question. I think deep down you know that.
When I have something complicated break it down to uncomplicated pieces. Once you are comfortable with these pieces then one by one start to put this complicated thing back together again. The main point is keep breaking complicated things into more and more simple things. I am not embarrassed to say I have broken things down to select sysdate from dual and then start to build back up!
Good Luck.

When companies ask you to do OO design related questions in the interview, what do they really expect? Do they expect you to briefly tell them the algorithm and some pseudocode or do they actually expect you to write the entire structure of the code?
For example question like : Design a musical jukebox. Do I start off telling what classes I will make with some pseudocode or what?
Design does not mean implementation.
Design means:
what all classes you will have
The methods(functionality) your classes will provide
What will be the relation between classes you have
What will be the Lifetimes of objects of your classed
Having said a design is not something which gets done in a mere 15-20mins of an interview. It's all blood and sweat and it needs lot of time and consideration albeit discussions to arrive at a good design.
In a interview the Questioner usually want to know if you can think in the right direction atleast.

I've been trying to describe the concept of platforms to some non-developer people on my team. I'm trying to explain how platforms are more than just tools and environments. For example, the Facebook Platform. How to describe the fact that the platform is more than just the website, but includes protocols like XFBML, opengraph, etc.
Facebook Platform is one example, but I would be interested if anyone has an abstracted way to describe what 'platforms' are in the tech world. I've had difficulty explaining this concept before in situations unrelated to flash.
Analogies that aren't tech related would be helpful as well.
I would say something about it being all-inclusive and extending to include all functionality that the entire ecosystem around that particular piece of software needs to thrive.
The Wikipedia page might help in putting it into words: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_platform
I use a "restaurant" metaphor, myself: Think of the kitchen, the bar, the dining room as components to the platform. How the decor can change in the dining room without changing the function, but can affect how customers perceive the business. How the recipes instruct the cooks, and the interactions with the wait staff can all affect different aspects of the business much like different pieces of your platform can be modified to affect different aspects of your business. Oh, and don't forget management!

I'm learning and doing projects on Grails, but for now it's a little boring because of the repetitive work (GORM, fix bug,...) . I want to "play" a little: making something simple, but useful, so that I can get inspired again with the programing work. For example, I think of something like Workrave, or RainCalendar, or Google StreetView.
The problem is that I'm just a lone programmer, and don't have lots of time for developing my own software. So I posted this question to ask for:
Some idea about a simple-coding program, but useful, interesting (funny is a bonus).
Some where (online) for programmer like me can find interesting project to join? I can code C, C++, Java, Grails and PHP. But other languages is also welcome.
I'll appreciate any idea from everyone.
To Answer your Second question:
sourceforge
And that has a lot of projects running so take a look at their Project Help Wanted board
then join the one you like.
And that should in turn answer your first question
