I am trying to perform an insert with EF 6.
I have verified I have a connection to the database, because I can do a read:
List<Driver> drivers = DataContext.Drivers.ToList();
With a sql profiler, I can see this do a select on the database, and it returns an item I manually inserted.
I am trying to perform an insert like this:
var driver = new Driver();
driver.DriverName = "Blah";
DataContext.Drivers.Add(driver);
DataContext.ChangeTracker.HasChanges(); //false
DataContext.SaveChanges();
except nothing is inserted, and the changetracker seems to show that it has not detected any changes. I also saw suggestions to use .Attach but this had the same results.
Any help on what I am doing wrong?
Cheers
(MyEntities.Context.cs)
public partial class MyEntities : DbContext
{
public MyEntities()
: base("name=MyEntities")
{
}
public partial class MyDataContext : MyEntities
{
public class SqlDataService : DataServiceBase<...Data.MyDataContext>
{
//where I am trying to do the insert with the code above
edit: No not using code first (not that i'm aware of!) not sure if the above code samples help, but show how I have set up my classes
It seems you have AutomaticTrackChanges turned off somewhere in your code.
Try adding this line before the addition:
var driver = new Driver();
driver.DriverName = "Blah";
//Turning Automatic changes tracking on:
DataContext.Configuration.AutoDetectChangesEnabled = true;
DataContext.Drivers.Add(driver);
DataContext.ChangeTracker.HasChanges(); //True
DataContext.SaveChanges();
Note: AutoDetectChangesEnabled is usually turned off for performance considerations

I am to using the CacheJdbcPojoStoreFactory
I want to have a VARCHAR field in the database which maps to an Enum in Java.
The way I am trying to achieve this is something like the following. I want the application code to work with the enum, but the persistence to use the string so that it is human readable in the database. I do not want to use int values in the database.
This seems to work fine for creating new objects, but not for reading them out. It seems that it tries to set the field directly, and the setter (setSideAsString) is not called. Of course there is no field called sideAsString. Should this work? Any suggestions?
Here is the code excerpt
In some application code I would do something like
trade.setSide(OrderSide.Buy)
And this will persist fine. I can read "Buy" in the side column as a VARCHAR.
In Trade
private OrderSide side; // OrderSide is an enum with Buy,Sell
public OrderSide getSide() {
return side;
}
public void setSide(OrderSide side) {
this.side = side;
}
public String getSideAsString() {
return this.side.name();
}
public void setSideAsString(String s) {
this.side = OrderSide.valueOf(s);
}
Now when configuring the store, I do this
Collection<JdbcTypeField> vals = new ArrayList<>();
vals.add(new JdbcTypeField(Types.VARCHAR, "side", String.class, "sideAsString"));
After a clean start, If I query Trade using Ignite SQL query, and call trade.getSide() it will be null. Other (directly mapped) columns are fine.
Thanks,
Gordon
BinaryMarshaller deserialize only fields which used in query.
Please try to use OptimizedMarshaller:
IgniteConfiguration cfg = new IgniteConfiguration();
...
cfg.setMarshaller(new OptimizedMarshaller());
Here's the ticket for support enum mapping in CacheJdbcPojoStore.
I want to ask this question and I tried to search for a while without concrete answers.
I have made a database and used LINQ2SQL to auto-generate the classes needed.
I have set the serialization mode to unidirectional to make sure the classes are being serialized and making the datamembers.
Now, what I want to know is, how I can send the references to the other classes (which has been made through LINQ2SQL).
F.x. I have a Class called Scheduler which is referencing Reservation, and Seat, because Reservation and Seat have foreign keys.
You can see the dbml here:
http://imgur.com/rR6OxDi
The dbml file. This is the model of our database
Also you can see that when I run the WCF test client it does not return the objects of Seats and Reservation.
http://imgur.com/brxNBz7
Hopefully you can all help.
UPDATE
Here is the snippet of the code provided by LINQ2SQL.
This is the fields for the scheduler
[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.TableAttribute(Name="dbo.Scheduler")]
[global::System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractAttribute()]
public partial class Scheduler : INotifyPropertyChanging, INotifyPropertyChanged
{
private static PropertyChangingEventArgs emptyChangingEventArgs = new PropertyChangingEventArgs(String.Empty);
private int _SchID;
private System.Nullable<System.DateTime> _Date;
private System.Nullable<System.TimeSpan> _Starttime;
private System.Nullable<int> _MovieID;
private System.Nullable<int> _HallID;
private EntitySet<Seat> _Seats;
private EntitySet<Reservation> _Reservations;
private EntityRef<Hall> _Hall;
private EntityRef<Movie> _Movie;
private bool serializing;
And here is the snippet part of the code where it references to Reservation and Seat:
[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.AssociationAttribute(Name="Scheduler_Seat", Storage="_Seats", ThisKey="SchID", OtherKey="SchedulerID")]
[global::System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMemberAttribute(Order=6, EmitDefaultValue=false)]
public EntitySet<Seat> Seats
{
get
{
if ((this.serializing
&& (this._Seats.HasLoadedOrAssignedValues == false)))
{
return null;
}
return this._Seats;
}
set
{
this._Seats.Assign(value);
}
}
[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.AssociationAttribute(Name="Scheduler_Reservation", Storage="_Reservations", ThisKey="SchID", OtherKey="SchedulerID")]
[global::System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMemberAttribute(Order=7, EmitDefaultValue=false)]
public EntitySet<Reservation> Reservations
{
get
{
if ((this.serializing
&& (this._Reservations.HasLoadedOrAssignedValues == false)))
{
return null;
}
return this._Reservations;
}
set
{
this._Reservations.Assign(value);
}
}
Update 2
Here is the Reservation class which LINQ2SQL made:
Here is the fields:
[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.TableAttribute(Name="dbo.Reservation")]
[global::System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractAttribute()]
public partial class Reservation : INotifyPropertyChanging, INotifyPropertyChanged
{
private static PropertyChangingEventArgs emptyChangingEventArgs = new PropertyChangingEventArgs(String.Empty);
private int _ResID;
private System.Nullable<int> _CustomerID;
private System.Nullable<int> _SchedulerID;
private string _Row;
private string _Seat;
private EntityRef<Customer> _Customer;
private EntityRef<Scheduler> _Scheduler;
And here is the Scheduler reference part of the class
[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.AssociationAttribute(Name="Scheduler_Reservation", Storage="_Scheduler", ThisKey="SchedulerID", OtherKey="SchID", IsForeignKey=true, DeleteRule="SET DEFAULT")]
public Scheduler Scheduler
{
get
{
return this._Scheduler.Entity;
}
set
{
Scheduler previousValue = this._Scheduler.Entity;
if (((previousValue != value)
|| (this._Scheduler.HasLoadedOrAssignedValue == false)))
{
this.SendPropertyChanging();
if ((previousValue != null))
{
this._Scheduler.Entity = null;
previousValue.Reservations.Remove(this);
}
this._Scheduler.Entity = value;
if ((value != null))
{
value.Reservations.Add(this);
this._SchedulerID = value.SchID;
}
else
{
this._SchedulerID = default(Nullable<int>);
}
this.SendPropertyChanged("Scheduler");
}
}
}
All of these things should lead to where I could get the object like this:
Scheduler[] schedulers = client.GetAllSchedulers();
Reservation reservation = schedulers[0].Reservations.First();
But get this error due to WCF not sending the object, (which you could see in picture one).
Which is this error:
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of
the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more
information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Sequence contains
no elements
UPDATE 3:
Ok so it appears that it works somehow.
I just had to make a join between the Scheduler and Reservation.
Also whenever I debug the code I can see the variables are there. (Due to my reputation I can not post links).
But some of you might recognize the following whenever you try to view a result in debug mode:
"expanding the results view will enumerate the ienumerable c#"
Whenever I do this, it works, but not if I run it in release mode.
Looks like only object types (Reservation,Seat) have null values.
I'm guessing either you are missing DataContract/DataMember attributes in your complex types or you might need to include KnownTypeAttribute
It'd be easier to tell if you could provide some code.
EDIT
What your are talking about later is deferred loading. See this blog for more information on deferred vs immediate loading.
When you expand the IEnumerable in debug mode, that makes the request to retrieve/load the objects.
What your probably want is to load your Reservation,Seat objects along with your Scheduler object. Something like the following:
YourDatabaseContext database = new YourDatabaseContext ())
{
DataLoadOptions options = new DataLoadOptions();
options.LoadWith<Scheduler>(sch=> sch.Reservation);
options.LoadWith<Scheduler>(sch=> sch.Seat);
database.LoadOptions = options;
}
See DataLoadOptions for more details.
If you want to understand deferred execution. See this article for more details.
Quote from the article:
By default LINQ uses deferred query execution. This means when you write a LINQ query it doesn't execute. LINQ queries execute when you 'touch' the query results. This means you can change the underlying collection and run the same query subsequent times in the same scope. Touching the data means accessing the results, for instance in a for loop or by using an aggregate operator like Average or AsParallel on the results.
I saw a related question:
Sitecore Glass Mapper always null
But unfortunately it does not give a solution for my case.
Here goes a code snippet:
var db = Factory.GetDatabase("master");
var context = new SitecoreContext();
// the ID of Needed item
var g = new Guid("{F21C04FE-8826-41AB-9F3C-F7BDF5B35C76}");
// just to test if it's possible to fetch item using db.GetItem
var i = db.GetItem(new ID(g), Language.Current, Sitecore.Data.Version.Latest);
// Grab item
var t = context.GetItem<Article>(g);
In the code above:
i is not null
t is null
Article is the simple class like:
[SitecoreType(TemplateId = "{4C4EC1DA-EB77-4001-A7F9-E4C2F61A9BE9}")]
public class Article
{
[SitecoreField(FieldName = "Title")]
public string Title { get; set; }
}
There are only one language installed in Sitecore - en, it has been specified in the web.config in the items as well.
Also I have added GlassMapperSc.Start(); to Application_Start in the Global.asax.cs and added my assembly to the list of included assemblies via var attributes = new AttributeConfigurationLoader(new[] { "Assembly.Name" }); and I succeeded to find my class in the SitecoreContext mappings.
It does not looks like a language issue, as stated in the link provided in the very beginning. And I'm struggling with it already for a pretty long time, but no luck...
Thank You!
I just noticed that you are using master db for the Sitecore DB and SitecoreContext for Glass.
The SitecoreContext class will use the database that is defined by the Sitecore.Context.Database property at runtime. This probably means that it is using the web database.
Can you check that you have published the item to the web database or instead using:
var context = new SitecoreService("master");
I am facing an issue while using SQL Server Notifications. I am developing a web application in ASP.net where one of the page needs to be notified about new entries in one of the tables in a SQL Server database. I am using SQL Server Notification services along with Signal R to achieve this functionality.All seems to work fine with my web page getting updates about new data entries.
The problem arises when the page using notification is refreshed. I find the no of notification for single entry in database go up by the number of refreshes. So if I refresh the page thrice, I get 3 notifications for one entry. I am bit concerned if this would be a burden on server when the no of connected users increases. Also if there is an error while processing the request to update the page with new entry, the user gets multiple error messages with same text. I tried debugging my code and found out that the on change event of SqlDependency object used is fired multiple time with different IDs every time. Below is brief overview of what my code is doing to use notifications -
I am using SQL Server 2012 and enable_broker is set for the database.
In global.asax, I am using application_start and application_stop events to start and stop SqlDependency.
In page code, I am setting a new SqlDependency object on page load using a command object to monitor the exact data field of the table.
When onchange of SqlDependency object fires, I am notifying the UI using Signal R hub class. Then I remove the OnChange handler of the SqlDependency object, call for SqlDependency.Stop(connectionstring), set SqlDependency object to nothing, call for SqlDependency.Start(connectionstring) and finally set up the SqlDependency object again using the command object for updated data. This whole set to nothing-stop-start-reset object is to continue monitoring the data for changes.
The above steps work fine but when I refresh the page, those are repeated for the number of refreshes. I tried a lot of things by changing code and debugging but nothing seems to resolve the issue. Now I am wondering if it is some setting somewhere that I missed.
Please help me resolve this issue. Also let me know if any other information such as environment, coding details etc are required.
Regards,
Tanmay
This is probably caused by connection pooling. It reurns a notification for each connection open in the pool. You can cancel the pooling for this specific service by changing the Connection String property:
Pooling = False;
i have resolved the following problem by using the below code, its works me.
SingletonDbConnect.cs
public class SingletonDbConnect
{
private static SingletonDbConnect dbInstance;
private static string connString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyConnection"].ConnectionString;
private readonly SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connString);
private SingletonDbConnect()
{
}
public static SingletonDbConnect getDbInstance()
{
if (dbInstance == null)
{
dbInstance = new SingletonDbConnect();
}
return dbInstance;
}
public SqlConnection getDbConnection()
{
try
{
conn.Close();
conn.Open();
}
catch (SqlException e)
{
}
finally
{
}
return conn;
}
}
SqlDependencyEvent.cs
public class SqlDependencyEvent
{
internal static int PageLoadCounter = 0;
public void getEmailMessagesByEmailId(Guid emailid)
{
SingletonDbConnect conn = SingletonDbConnect.getDbInstance();
using (MembersController.command = new SqlCommand(SQL.emailmessagesbyaccount_sql(), conn.getDbConnection()))
{
MembersController.command.Notification = null;
if (MembersController.dependency == null)
{
MembersController.dependency = new SqlDependency(MembersController.command);
MembersController.dependency.OnChange += new OnChangeEventHandler(emailMessages_OnChange);
}
var reader = MembersController.command.ExecuteReader();
}
PageLoadCounter++;
}
private void emailMessages_OnChange(object sender, SqlNotificationEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Type == SqlNotificationType.Change)
{
if (MembersController.dependency != null)
{
MembersController.dependency.OnChange -= emailMessages_OnChange;
}
NotificationHub.EmailUpdateRecords();
SingletonDbConnect conn = SingletonDbConnect.getDbInstance();
using (MembersController.command = new SqlCommand(SQL.emailmessagesbyaccount_sql(), conn.getDbConnection()))
{
MembersController.command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("#emailaccountid", defaultemailid));
MembersController.command.Notification = null;
MembersController.dependency = new SqlDependency(MembersController.command);
MembersController.dependency.OnChange += new OnChangeEventHandler(emailMessages_OnChange);
var reader = MembersController.command.ExecuteReader();
}
PageLoadCounter++;
}
}
}
MembersController.cs
public class MembersController : Controller
{
SingletonDbConnect conn = SingletonDbConnect.getDbInstance();
internal static SqlCommand command = null;
internal static SqlDependency dependency = null;
//
// GET: /Members/
public ActionResult Index()
{
SqlDependency.Stop(conn.getDbConnection().ConnectionString);
SqlDependency.Start(conn.getDbConnection().ConnectionString);
return View();
}
}
its resolved my problem and its working me, even we refresh page more than 1, but SqlDependency will call only once.
i used one of the MembersController for SqlDependency start and stop, its your own logic, you can use the same code in Global.ascx instead of MembersController.cs
i hope it will help you and resolve issue. ask me if you have still any problem thanks.
Based on this link it looks like I can get date inserted / date modified information "for free" (without the need for triggers etc.) using Sql Server 2008 by simply enabling Change Tracking. I am using Entity Framework to access the data. My question is, how do I access date modified / date inserted information for the database records via Entity Framework and LINQ?
I'm using VS2008 so I don't have the new EF v4 stuff yet (but if it can be done in the new EF please let me know).
Thanks.
Aw, nevermind. I found it plenty easy to just create the Inserted and LastModified columns in each table myself, set a default value for each, and build an update trigger for LastModified. That seems to be what people do, and the Change Tracking looks like it's mainly set up for sync'ing. Right?
OK, this works beautifully (also see this article)...
public partial class MyEntities
{
partial void OnContextCreated()
{
this.SavingChanges += new System.EventHandler(CustomSavingChangesLogic);
}
/// <summary>
/// Apply timestamps
/// </summary>
public void CustomSavingChangesLogic(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
var changedEntities = ((ObjectContext)sender).ObjectStateManager.GetObjectStateEntries(EntityState.Added | EntityState.Modified);
foreach (var stateEntryEntity in changedEntities)
{
if(!stateEntryEntity.IsRelationship) {
var entity = stateEntryEntity.Entity;
var lastModifiedPropInfo = entity.GetType().GetProperty("LastModified");
if (lastModifiedPropInfo != null)
lastModifiedPropInfo.SetValue(entity, DateTime.UtcNow, null);
if (stateEntryEntity.State == EntityState.Added)
{
var createdPropInfo = entity.GetType().GetProperty("Created");
if (createdPropInfo != null)
createdPropInfo.SetValue(entity, DateTime.UtcNow, null);
}
}
}
}
}
