I am using Oracle 11g XE database and Oracle SQL developer to execute SQL statements.
I have this SQL statement which is giving me the above compiler error when executing it.
CREATE OR REPLACE
TRIGGER "STD"."TRG_STUDENT"
BEFORE INSERT,DELETE
ON STUDENT
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
IF INSERTING THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Inserting !!');
END IF;
IF DELETING THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Deleting !!');
END IF;
END;
I tried some variations but I used to get other errors.
I placed the ON STUDENT just before the BEFORE INSERT,DELETE line and I get this error:
Error: ORA-04071: missing BEFORE, AFTER or INSTEAD OF keyword
What am I missing here?
BEFORE INSERT OR DELETE

Use BEFORE INSERT OR DELETE instead of BEFORE INSERT, DELETE. Refer coding trigger for more in detail.

There are multiple stack overflow question already asked on this topic. but they suggest some different syntax. which is deviation from actual oracle documentation. and even those didn't worked for me
I checked for documentation on multiple website including oracle documentation. oracle documetation suggest syntax as following
Oracle STORED PROCEDURE DOCUMENTATION
so I as per the syntax I wrote the following procedure.
CREATE PROCEDURE PDD_PROC_BASE
AS
--DROP TABLE BASE;
CREATE TABLE BASE as
SELECT idno
,DATE
,diff
,SUBSTR(idNO,7,2) AS PRD
,COMPLETED
,CATG
,OP_Number
FROM table1
WHERE = date >= '30-JUN-2018'
AND STATUS = 'G'
END;
and I got the following error.
Procedure PDD_PROC_BASE compiled

I checked other resources as well but still didn't understood what went wrong.
I even tried code example from Oracle documentation and got similar error.
I am using SQLdeveloper tool as client
You cant use directly sql ddl statements in plsql block, you can do the same thing using dynamic sql with the "EXECUTE IMMEDIATE" statement like this:
begin
execute immediate 'create table test_table1 (test_column1 varchar2(40))';--your create table statement here
end;
In Oracle in stored procedures you can use DDL statements only as dynamic SQL, that means as EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE TABLE ' ...
Check here, for example: http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_using_ddl_create_index_table_plsql.htm
I'm taking my first steps in Pl/SQL and am struggling with triggers. I've tried creating the trigger below but am receiving this error:
Error at line 2: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
To clarify: I have checked the name of the table over and over, and it does exist. It is also in the same schema as the trigger I'm trying to create. The 'customer_seq.NEXTVAL' refers to a sequence created previously that runs without errors.
The code is as follows:
CREATE TRIGGER new_customer
BEFORE INSERT ON customer
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
INSERT INTO customer_id VALUES ('c-', customer_seq.NEXTVAL);
END;
Thanks in advance for any help.
You probably intend something like this:
CREATE TRIGGER new_customer
BEFORE INSERT ON customer
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
SELECT customer_seq.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.customer_id
FROM dual;
END;
It is unclear what the purpose of 'C_' is. If it is part of the customer id, I would advise you to stick to numbers.
Also note that more recent versions of Oracle support generated always as identity -- which is much preferred over defining a sequence and trigger.
I get the following error when I try to create this trigger in SQLite
create trigger timeslot_check1 after insert on section
for each row
when(new.time_slot_id not in(select time_slot_id
from time_slot))
begin
rollback
end;
ERROR : near "rollback": syntax error:
As shown in the documentation, the only SQL commands allowed in a trigger body are UPDATE, INSERT, DELETE, and SELECT.
To raise an error, you must use the RAISE() function from inside a query:
CREATE TRIGGER timeslot_check1
BEFORE INSERT ON section
FOR EACH ROW
WHEN NEW.time_slot_id NOT IN (SELECT time_slot_id FROM time_slot)
BEGIN
SELECT RAISE(FAIL, "invalid timeslot");
END;
Anyway, this check can be done much easier with a foreign key.
I keep getting the "missing on keyword" message on the following query and I'm not sure why:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TRG_LINE_PRODUCT AFTER INSERT UPDATE OR DELETE ON
TBL_CH08_LINE FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
IF INSERTING THEN UPDATE TBL_CH08_PRODUCT P SET P_QOH = P_QOH-:NEW.LINE.UNITS
WHERE P.P_CODE = :NEW.P.P_CODE;
END IF;
END;
/
You are missing an OR, in fact:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TRG_LINE_PRODUCT
AFTER INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON TBL_CH08_LINE
-----------------^
FOR EACH ROW
Oracle is expecting ON after the INSERT, which is why you get that particular error.
I need help on creating a trigger on my table1
that will insert specific columns into table2 from table1.
How can i do that? I am using Oracle 11G XE .
Here is my code:
create trigger AllowanceTrigger
on ex_bulacan
after insert
as
insert into allowance VALUES (PLANT_ORIGIN,SO_NO, SO_STATUS,SO_REMARKS,DRIVER_NAME)
select plant_origin, sales_order_no, status,remarks, driver_name
from ex_bulacan;
go ;
When I run that command I get this error
ORA-04071: missing BEFORE, AFTER or INSTEAD OF keyword
The explanation is:
ORA-04071. 00000 - "missing BEFORE, AFTER or INSTEAD OF keyword"
*Cause: The trigger statement is missing the BEFORE/AFTER/INSTEAD OF clause.
*Action: Specify either BEFORE, AFTER or INSTEAD OF.
There is no "go" statement in PL/SQL, and you have not followed the correct syntax for a trigger definition (it is well documented)
Try this:
create trigger AllowanceTrigger
after insert on ex_bulacan
begin
insert into allowance (PLANT_ORIGIN,SO_NO, SO_STATUS,SO_REMARKS,DRIVER_NAME)
select plant_origin, sales_order_no, status,remarks, driver_name
from ex_bulacan;
end;
I'm not sure whether it does what you intended. It fires once per insert statement, not for each row, and it inserts all rows from ex_bulacan into allowance, not just the ones you just inserted. Maybe what you want is actually:
create trigger AllowanceTrigger
after insert on ex_bulacan
for each row
begin
insert into allowance (PLANT_ORIGIN,SO_NO, SO_STATUS,SO_REMARKS,DRIVER_NAME)
values (:new.plant_origin, :new.sales_order_no, :new.status, :new.remarks,
:new.driver_name);
end;
There is a syntax error in your code. You must specify the trigger in this order:
CREATE TRIGGER AllowanceTrigger
AFTER INSERT
ON ex_bulacan
