I got my new Macbook Pro which has M1 chip.
I tried to run my react native project but stucked on pod install.
After that, I created an empty project and tried on that still getting the same error.

After I make research about this topic I found several solutions but still my problem is not solved.
I already tried to install
sudo gem install ffi
and then tried pod install again. Still getting same error.
After that according to my research some people said to use terminal with rosetta or the another way to rosetta,
sudo arch -x86_64 gem install ffi
arch -x86_64 pod install
with these Intel based installation try I'm getting below error:
Analyzing dependencies
Fetching podspec for `DoubleConversion` from `../node_modules/react-native/third-party-podspecs/DoubleConversion.podspec`
Fetching podspec for `Folly` from `../node_modules/react-native/third-party-podspecs/Folly.podspec`
Fetching podspec for `glog` from `../node_modules/react-native/third-party-podspecs/glog.podspec`

Did somebody faced with this problem? What I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to run my project?
for homebrew users
step 1 brew install cocoapods
step 2 sudo arch -x86_64 gem install ffi
step 3 arch -x86_64 pod install
fixed my issue
My problem with ffi resolved with just brew install cocoapods =)
Firstly I tried to install from bundler and there was a specific old version of cocoapods which didn't support m1 yet; then I used brew and now with the latest cocoapods it works fine
This resource helped me: https://www.lopau.com/error-running-cocoapod-pod-install-on-big-sur-with-ffi/
Run sudo gem inst ffi -- --disable-system-libffi
My problem was installing cocoapods with gem (which most tutorials online will tell you). Try uninstalling cocoapods with the following command:
gem uninstall cocoapods
Then install it again using brew
brew install cocoapods
homebrew installed the arm64 version, while gem seems to default to something else.
I realized that homebrew installation messed up cocoapods.
Simply, I uninstalled homebrew and start from beginning. Then it worked.
this worked for me: (M1 Pro)
arch -x86_64 sudo gem install cocoapods
arch -x86_64 pod repo update
arch -x86_64 pod install
sources: https://github.com/CocoaPods/CocoaPods/issues/10349
I faced the same issue on M1 chip MacBook. Finally did the below
In rosetta terminal :
-- sudo rm -rf ~/.cocoapods/repos
Inside iOS folder
pod install
the solution for me was to init the app like this
arch -x86_64 npx react-native init awsomeproject
Install the latest version of Xcode from App Store, and then run these two commands in the Terminal:
sudo xcode-select --switch /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer
sudo xcodebuild -runFirstLaunch
In my case the problem was that CocoaPod flipper was out of date. The change in the pod file from
use_flipper()!
to
use_flipper!({ 'Flipper' => '0.95.0', 'Flipper-Folly' => '2.6.7', 'Flipper-RSocket' => '1.4.3', 'Flipper-DoubleConversion' => '3.1.7', 'Flipper-Glog' => '0.3.9', 'Flipper-PeerTalk' => '0.0.4' })
helped me.
Mac M1 architecture is not directly compatible with Cocoapods. If you encounter issues when installing pods, you can solve it by running:
sudo arch -x86_64 gem install ffi
arch -x86_64 pod install
These commands install the ffi package, to load dynamically-linked libraries and let you run the pod install properly, and runs pod install with the proper architecture.
For me, this command worked
arch -x86_64 pod install
Same Question I think : Rails-Unicorn-Install-Error-KGIO
While running bundle install, system is giving error for installing gems.
Gem files will remain installed in c:/RailsInstaller/Ruby1.9.3/lib/ruby/gems/1.9
.1/gems/kgio-2.8.0 for inspection.
Results logged to c:/RailsInstaller/Ruby1.9.3/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/kgio-2.8.
0/ext/kgio/gem_make.out
An error occurred while installing kgio (2.8.0), and Bundler cannot continue.
Make sure that `gem install kgio -v '2.8.0'` succeeds before bundling.
Here I am unable to install kgio gem. I tried a lot but no success. Is there any way to come out of this.
Thanks in advance.
Removed the Unicorn gem from gem list.
gem 'unicorn'
If you are running Windows 7:
Error Installing "kgio-2.9.2" Gem on Windows

end
Im not going to start by saying i'm a newbie etc. Jokes, been learning Rails for nearly month using Lynda.com. I use Mac, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.
I am trying to intall Paperclip Gem but i can't seem to figure out what i'm doing wrong.
I followed the instructions on https://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip/wiki/Installation
I added this line to my config/environment.rb
config.gem 'paperclip', :source => 'http://rubygems.org'
and i then tried to run
rake gems:install
I get an error message:
(in /Users/fred/Ruby/food)
rake aborted!
undefined local variable or method `config' for main:Object
/Users/fred/Ruby/food/Rakefile:4:in `require'
(See full trace by running task with --trace)
I then tried the following as an alternative when the above failed
script/plugin install git://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip
I get the following error
-bash: script/plugin: No such file or directory
My question is how do install this gem? I have read a lot of other posts that say i should include gem 'paperclip', "~> 2.3" is this the same as what i did above?
Best to use bundler. Steps are
Install bundler: gem install bundler
Add to Gemfile: config.gem 'paperclip'
cd to where the Gemfile is and run: bundle install. This will install all the gems mentioned in the Gemfile
Ps. I assume that you are not using rvm. Also, you may need to prefix sudo to the command in step 1 above in case the command does not work for you due to a permission problem.
I am try
hosting_barthez#lithium:~/projects/taxes/current$ bundle install
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:900:in `report_activate_error': Could not find RubyGem bundler (>= 0) (Gem::LoadError)

from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:1276:in `gem'
from /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/bundle:18
but when I write
hosting_barthez#lithium:~/projects/taxes/current$ gem install bundler
Successfully installed bundler-1.0.15
1 gem installed
I think that is obvious. You got error because you were trying to use bundle command which comes with bundler gem only, without installing it. You have to install bundler to use bundle.
I am trying to deploy to heroku.
Rails 3.1.0.rc4,
I get the following error from Heroku logs:
Starting process with command: `thin -p 48902 -e production -R /home/heroku_rack/heroku.ru start`
2011-06-20T11:25:44+00:00 app[web.1]: /app/.bundle/gems/ruby/1.9.1/gems/activerecord-3.1.0.rc4/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract/connection_specification.rb:71:in `rescue in establish_connection': Please install the postgresql adapter: `gem install activerecord-postgresql-adapter` (pg is not part of the bundle. Add it to Gemfile.) (RuntimeError)
I tried to install the activerecord-postgresql-adapter but then I get this error:
Could not find gem 'activerecord-postgresql-adapter (>= 0)' in any of the gem sources listed in your Gemfile.
So I tried to add this to my gem file
gem 'pg'
which produced this error:
Installing pg (0.11.0) with native extensions /Users/imac/.rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.2-p180/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/installer.rb:533:in `rescue in block in build_extensions': ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. (Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError)
any ideas?
You don't have to install Postgres locally. In your Gemfile, put 'pg' in group :production, as johnny-grass suggests, and then when you run bundle, just specify --without production, like this:
bundle --without production
Unfortunately, you have to remember this argument when you run bundler, but at least you don't have to install and maintain postgres locally.
Please note that Heroku "strongly recommends against" using sqlite, saying that "Your production and development environment should be as close to identical as possible" http://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3
Do you have PostgreSQL installed on your computer? If you don't then install it first, then install the pg gem.
# gemfile
group :production do
gem 'therubyracer-heroku', '0.8.1.pre3' # you will need this too
gem 'pg'
end
I found a solution in this Heroku article.
As Jared said, they suggest to create a different group for postgresql.
