I have Created SSRS Report with 25 Columns and when i run Report it fetch around 15000+ records but when i Export the Report in Excel Format it gives Error on Report Server and Local machine .i.e. "The Communication Object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ClientFramingDuplexSessionChannel, cannot be Used for Communication Because it is in the Faulted State" it takes 3 minutes to execute Query in SQL 2008 R2 (SQL Server i am using) and 5 min to show on Report. What could be the problem? Thanks
i found some problem with my last Column i.e. Comments which contains more text (in some case's it's more than 36000 characters) so it works perfectly without the column Comments but still not sure about the Problem.
these kind of problems occur most of the time because of limitations of excell itself.
please check the following maximum limits:
Worksheet size - 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns
Column width - 255 characters
Row height - 409 points
Page breaks-1,026 horizontal and vertical
Total number of characters that a cell can contain-32,767 characters
Characters in a header or footer-255
Sheets in a workbook-Limited by available memory (default is 3 sheets)

I've created a Tableau workbook that is based off of a SQL query connecting to an Oracle Database. Let's pretend that the query has 2 fields, ID and Stock number. On the Data Source tab one row shows ID = 2040 and the Stock number = 47 but on Sheet 1, ID = 2040 shows a Stock number = 2040. The remote type of the Stock number field on the Data Source tab is "Fixed precision number" and on Sheet 1 it is "Double-precision floating-point number."
For a reason I do not understand the Stock number is equal to the ID for all rows of the data when looking at the data on Sheet 1 (or any other Sheet for that matter). This is incorrect when I look at the Data Source tab or if I use Oracle SQL Developer to run the query. Why and how is this happening in Tableau?
What I've already tried
Using the Stock number field as a Dimension and a Measure
Using "View Data" on Sheet 1 - It shows that the row where ID = 2040 also has a Stock number = 2040
instead of the correct value of 47
My advice is to start a new workbook and take your query right back to basics. Only have a simple select statement and return a few rows.
Then build up from there. You want to get as simple as you can, with no column aliases if you can avoid it.
From there add more complexity to your query, one step at a time so you can pinpoint the exact moment when your query stops working.
I have seen Tableau get confused by data types before, so make sure you check all of the data types that Tableau suggests when you first build your data source. And update them as necessary.
If you can remove or even blur out any sensitive content and show us a picture that would help immenesly. Obviously a picture tells a thousand words.
I have a SSRS report that works fine but has an issue exporting to Excel or CSV formats.
I tried exporting to excel but errors out saying it has more than 256 columns.
So I was hoping I could just export it to CSV format. But with CSV I noticed that it adds up unwanted 'textbox1', textbox2 etc and also does not display the header that I actually added. Instead it would display the actual field name as header. I figured I could edit the individual properties to show Header Names. But the textboxes in the exported sheet is still an issue.
On the other hand I was trying if I could export it to excel but limit 100 columns per sheet or rest of the columns after 256 to next sheet that would be great.
I saw few posts on google breaking by group. But in my case I do not have columns to be grouped. Only need to break first 100 columns to sheet1 and next 100 to sheet2 or the 256 columns to sheet1 and the rest to next sheet.
No luck in both ways. Could you please help with this?

This is a very common issue when you work with SSRS 2008 R2. If your reports have columns more than 256, then it doesn't export to Excel.
Try to understand this technically. Technicality is, SSRS reports by default install 2003 office component on Report server. When your report give a call to export data into excel, then report server internally give a call to office component. And if you will see, then you will find that in office 2003, you have maximum of 256 columns in a sheet. So in any case, you cannot export more than that using your existing infrastructure.
Options:
Move to SSRS 2012 or SSRS 2014. This will also update your office component to 2007 or 2010 where you can export up to 16,384 columns.
If you cannot move to new infrastructure then you have to break-down your reports such that it never exceeds to 256 columns.
Export to other formats like PDF. But when you do so, then it disturbs the UI. So I don't see this as a very feasible solution.
I know many discussions have addressed this but I have not found a solution.
I regularly produce worksheets with about 100 records of text and date fields, each of which must be transposed into a 2-column table and printed to a PDF file.
To do this I have been using VBA code which works through the worksheet rows to sequentially: copy/transpose into two columns in a separate worksheet (Template) and then use rng.ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF to create the PDF file.
It has all been working fine for several years, until someone recently noticed that sometimes the largest field does not show all the text from the Excel cell. It is invariably cut off after about 1000 - 1100 characters.
Many discussions mention that there is a 1024 limit on cell displays, but I thought this only applied to Excel 2003 and before - 2007 should be fine shouldn't it? In any case, I have found it is always possible to manually adjust the Excel field to reveal all of the text (both in the original worksheet and the temporary 2-column Excel table), sometimes totalling more than 2000 characters. Of course, I don't want to manually adjust and print to PDF 100 times on a regular basis. So I used AutoFit: Sheets("Template").Rows("1:18").Selection.EntireRow.AutoFit
Unfortunately this does not seem to duplicate the manual cell expanding that we have tried successfully. None of the cells is merged. All are wrapped and General formatted. I have tried cleaning text entries via Notepad before entry and inserting blank rows with Alt-F (as suggested elsewhere).
If AutoFit will not work, I am thinking maybe I could include some code to set a customised row height for each table by getting the total word count (is there a function?) and setting row height to about 0.8 * number of words - based on initial calculations.
Any ideas please?
I've used a method similar to what you suggested your last paragraph but with a character count instead of a word count. The VBA function is:
len(range("A1").value)
I did it since I had merged cells and they wouldn't autofit.
You'll have to calibrate for your column width, font and font size but from what I've learned there's no exact method. If you set your characters per line factor too high you might cut off a line, too low and you might get a blank line.
I am uploading a currency rate workbook through a filehandler in VB.net through System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.
When viewing the rates in the Excel sheet, I see 0.55865921787709500000.
Viewing the same rate in the datatable under debug mode, I see 0.55865921787709480000.
Under Excel, the decimal places are set to 20 - seems to just pad out zeroes past decimal position 15.
I've tried reading/writing the cells to a text file (same '500000' result).
Tried saving the workbook as a comma-delimted text file - same '500000' result.
The rate worksheet is created from another web site. I have attempted to add a 16th digit to the worksheet, but it flips back to zero after I move off the cell. I know Excel has a 16-digit precision limit. In this case, it appears to be storing more.
Is there any way to peek at the actual stored value in the workbook - other than examining the datatable?
Excel is retaining more than 15 significant digits - depending on what system created the original Excel document. In this case, the doc was produced by Crystal Reports. The "extra" significant digits can be viewed using the OLEDB connection against the Excel spreadsheet or by viewing it through the Google Docs version of Excel.
In this particular case, I had to make the SQL-stored rates match the spreadsheet. I converted each rate to a decimal and a string. I used the string to locate the period in the rate and start counting consecutive zeroes that appear after the decimal. This count was added to 15 as the number of digits on a system round of the decimal. The rounded number matched the figures shown when viewing the information in Excel.
Why is the length for my longcomment field (defined as varchar(600)) only up to 255 coming from an Excel spreadsheet? The length of the value in the spreadsheet is over 300 characters and the field in the table is defined at varchar(600). However, when I select on that field in SQL, it is truncating at 255.

When an Excel files is parsed for import, only a certain number of rows are scanned to determine column size of the input. How you are importing the data makes a difference on what you need to change, basically you either need to override the detected column size or increase the number of rows scanned. Leave a comment with what import method you are using if you need additional help.
In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, you can change the size by going to the Tools/Option menu and opening the Query Results branch on the tree control. Then under the Results to Text leaf is the the “Maximum number of characters in a column” value.
