I am trying to set up Apache http 2.2, with mod_jk module.
The intention is to set up a load balancer right on my PC, for test purposes.
So I made some changes to httpd.conf to set some parameters, then I run it and I get the popup:
"Windows couldn't start Apache 2.2 on local PC. For more information check system events log. If it's not a windows service contact service provider and reference the code:1"
I check on the log and I get:
httpd.exe: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 192.168.0.35 for ServerName
So I uncomment on httpd.conf line: ServerName myPcName:80 and run it again.
I get the same popup, but this time I don't get anything on the events log.
Any idea on how to let it work?
(Nothing is bound on 80 port.)

Please check if port 80 is being used by other application or not. Most of the time in my case "Skype" was using port 80. So I had to stop it and then I used to start Apache service.
To troubleshoot further what you can do is, goto apache's bin directory and run httpd.exe -t option. This will show you exactly what is causing problem.
The configuration file in the apache /conf folder, has a piece of code that starts from C:. It is copyrighted and therefore you cannot change the code.
All you have to do is make a second copy of the whole apache folder and put it directly in your C: directory. Your apache file is in System 32 causing you to use cprompt right. Having 2 identical apache folders one in C: and one in System 32 bypasses the problem.

I have a problem, I had apache Solr installed and it uses localhost for access on webserver...
now I have installed Apache and startet httpd.exe and I get the warning / error:
Could not reliably determine the server’s fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName"
when I stop solr, I can start and use localhost for apache httpd...
but I want to have the possibility to use both webservices, how can I configure Apache to do that? and get access to service not with localhost, but with another domain name or some configuration in httpd.conf
I tried to change the line "ServerName www.example.com:80" in httpd.conf file but no effect,
sorry but I'm pretty new to webservers and Apache, how should I configure that?
You have several things mixed here:
Installing Solr should in no way be related to other questions, unless it is configured to run on port 80. If that is the case, you simply can not run two services on the same port so you have to pick, or just move Solr to 8080 or whatever.
Could not reliably determine... is just a friendly warning and will not prevent any functionality, and it should disappear when you add ServerName www.example.com:80 in httpd.conf
With default settings, Apache will respond to any http request that comes to port 80, so you don't have to configure anything there (and if you want to modify that, use VirtualHost). You can achieve reaching your webserver by other hostnames by editing hosts file on your machine. If you want others to be able to do that, you have to configure DNS (which is separate issue)
Basically I've got a VPS setup but I incorrectly set the hostname. I left it for a while and it was fine, installed zpanel etc and now it's a 'web host' and everything was fine. Now I want to change the hostname so I logged into the hosting companies control panel for the server and changed the hostname.
The original and the new hostname are in the format of xxx.yyy.com. So nothing happend and I could still reach the zpanel login page via the 'old' host name even though in the hosting companies control panel it said it had changed.
For ease of explanation, we shall say my old hostname was xyz.example-domain.com and my new is server.another-domain.com. Both domains are controlled within this installation of zpanel.
Anyway. I deleted the dns entry for "xyz" on example-domain and, as you would expect, if you go to xyz.example-domain.com you get nothing. I created a dns A record for server.another-domain.com but now all you get is the default apache 'welcome to your server' page. To get to zpanel login, you need the IP address.
SO my question is, do I need to do something else? It seems that I need to change where this zpanel login page is getting displayed so that it can be server.another-domain.com. I'm guessing there is some file somewhere that I need to edit but I don't know what one and "the internet" isn't really helping as all I find is 'change the host name in the hosting companies control panel' which I've done.
PS It is an apache 2 server running CentOS 6
Take a look at your Apache configuration located in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. If you intend on running multiple domains off the same host, you'll need to setup Virtual Hosts. You'll see a detailed explanation of those settings toward the bottom of your configuration file.
Depending on where you've located your files, you'll want to set your DocumentRoot accordingly for each of your Virtual Hosts, and that will instruct Apache to look for the files in the proper places. By default, I believe it looks in /var/www.
NOTE: You will need to restart Apache or reload configurations whenever you alter your configuration file. You can do this by running either one of the following commands (as root):
/etc/init.d/httpd restart
/etc/init.d/httpd reload
Go to /etc/zpanel/panel/
rename: index.php -->panel.php (or any other name).
Then create index.php and let it in blank (or write a welcome message)
Finally enter to your zpanel like this: http://www.yourIP/panel.php

Is not necessary change any port
When I'm trying to start the Apache 2.2 server it is showing the following message: The Requested Operation has failed
In command Prompt it is showing as follows:
C:\Documents and Settings\amth>net start apache2.2
The Apache2.2 service is starting.
The Apache2.2 service could not be started.
A service specific error occurred: 1.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3547.
Open run( win + r ) in windows and then type services.msc. Search for Apache service. Double click on the service and select any startup type other than disabled. This should work like a charm.
Open conf folder then open httpd.conf file in your text editor.
Find this line:
Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80
and change it to
Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8080
Then hit save
I have wasted a whole day on figuring out why curl_init() threw an undefined-error. Im using Windows, Apache 2.4 and PHP 7.3
After trying to:
Install a fresh version of Curl As described in this post
Enabe Curl in the php.ini file following this description
I still got this error.
The solution was to add the directory of the php e.g c:php/ to the PATH Variable in the Windows environment variables.
->Hit the Windows-Key and S
-> search for "System"
-> go to advanced options(a small window shuld pop up)
-> hit environment variables
-> in the **bottom** box scroll until you find "PATH"
-> select it and hit "edit"
-> enter the php directory and close the window
-> reboot your PC

Have you done any changes in httpd.conf file ? i was also facing same problem in my case i have saved httpd.conf file as txt so due to that i was getting error
Was getting this issue when trying to start Apache with mod_jk. As part of loadmodule in http.conf file LoadModule jk_module modules/mod_jk.so was added but in Apache2.2\modules folder mod_jk.so file was not available. Added mod_jk.so file to modules folder and apache started without any issues.
Here is what I did - if you uninstall and reinstall apache via command prompt it
httpd -k unistall/httpd -k install
then it displays the errors
in my case the require all was missing 'granted' at the end of to look like 'require all granted'

I ran into the same error message on Windows Server 2008 R2. I was using SSL and realized that my signer certs, configured in ssl.conf, where placed in the wrong folders on the file system. I placed the certs in the correct spot and the service and Apache was working fine afterwards.
I've tried closing World Wide Web services, changing a lot of ports and surfing many forums, and eventually I looked in to Logs=>Apache (error.log) files.
I saw in this error:
PHP Fatal error: Directive 'asp_tags' is no longer available in PHP in Unknown on line 0
Then I opened php.ini files in XAMPP. Find with ctrl+f asp_tags=On line and turn it to Off.
All of it then worked.
In my case Apache 2.4 is worked on Win7Pro 64bit. Last week it worked fine but today I was unable to start it as usually. I tried to check logs for errors but no clue. Then I went to Control panel -> Administrative tools -> Services and found there Apache service was disabled!? Click on property, set Startup type to manual and - voila! It started like charm.

I found that there was nothing in the logs, and the advice to go to the xampp root with a cmd and run apache_start.bat actually got the error (a missing path in the .conf file) which didn't show up any other way.
All working now.
If this is a fresh install, rather than using the control panel to start Apache, you may want to go to XAMPP's root directory and call apache-start.
In my case, apache was failing to start due to a configuration error
httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 37 of C:/..../xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
ServerRoot must be a valid directory
If that's the case, make sure that you run setup_xampp (Thanks to https://stackoverflow.com/a/17978400/239408 !)
Most likely you have blocked port 80. The most common problem is skype, change skype settings to use a different port, and restart.
Then run apache.
IF you encounter this kind of error in XAMPP

1) First thing you do is click the Netstat on the Xampp (it will give you the list of names, ports, address and PID)
2) Find the Port 80 and Check the Name who uses the port. for Example [httpd.exe]
3) Then go to the window task manager and click the processes
4) Find the Name of the application who uses the port. click the name and click end process
5) then back to the Xampp and click Start
Right click on Xampp Control Panel, and click on 'Run as Administrator'
That solved my problem.
I previously installed my XAMMP on one of my usb keys. Windows exchanged inadvertently their drive letters, making all my paths wrong in my XAMMP setup files. I changed back manually the drive letter of one key (before replugging the other one into my pc) so everything is ok again.

As I am working in a corporate environment where developers faces firewall issues, none of the other answers resolved my issue.
As the port is not used by Skype, but by some other internal applications, I followed the below steps to resolve the issue:
Step 1 - From the XAMPP Control Panel, under Apache, click the Config button, and select the Apache (httpd.conf).
Inside the httpd.conf file, somehow I found a line that says:
Listen 80
And change the 80 into any number / port you want. In my scenario I’m using port 8080.
Listen 8080/1
Still from the httpd.conf file, I found another line that says:
ServerName localhost:80
And change 80 to 8080/1.
ServerName localhost:8080
Step 2 - From the XAMPP Control Panel, under Apache, click the Config button again, but this time select the Apache (httpd-ssl.conf). Inside the httpd-ssl.conf file, find line that says
Listen 443
And change the 443 into any number / port you want. I’ll using 4433 as the new port number.
Listen 4433
Still from the httpd-ssl.conf file, find another line that says
ServerName localhost:443
And change 443 to 4433.
ServerName localhost:4433
Remember to save the httpd.conf and httpd-ssl.conf files after performing some changes. Then restart the Apache service.
We have development team of 10 people working on Linux platform our application is hosted on Apache server
Now what i want if every developer is having own codebase in his directory
he can have his own httpd conf file which uses his code base and his port on that server
and whenever he changes the code base he needs run only his apache process
and there is no need to start , restart the apache server as other people should not get disturbed
so can we do this listening same server on different ports with different DocumentRoot and no need to start or restart the whole apache server only individual process of apache need to be started if any changes are done in the local conf file of that user
You need not get into the complexity of managing virtual hosts.
You can create alias for each developer which will point to his directory.

Developer can update code see the result at the above url without restarting server.
