I have an NSTextFeild Subclass in which I would like to implement textDidEndEditing: to check after each edit if it is empty or not. The method is being called perfectly, but when I click into another NSTextField (or a subclass), all the text that was in the first textfield is immediately deleted. If I click out into the view, the text stays, but is deleted the next time i click into another textfeild. All I have in the method right now is an NSLog. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this could be happening?

This delegate method wouldn't be causing your problem. I'd look back to your subclass and check to see that you are not using any UITextField delegate methods that are expecting a YES response that you may have inadvertently changed the return responses for. It may be helpful to post you subclass so we can see what is going on in there too...

I have a textfield and a button. When I click inside the textfield, I want the button to disappear. I defined the textfield as both outlet and action ( with event “Did end on exit”). In the method for the textfield, I have self.testButton.hidden = YES; When I click inside the textfield, the button does not go away. Instead, it remains until I hit the return key on the keyboard – causing the keyboard to go away. I tried the same thing w/ touchup inside as the event on the text field. When you click in the text field, nothing happens to the button.
Instead of using the Target-Action mechanism ("Did end on exit" and "Touch Up Inside") use the Delegate mechanism.
First, make your class conform to the UITextFieldDelegate protocol. In your *.h (header) file add the following:

Second, implement the -(void)textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField *)textField method. Also, remember to set yourself as the delegate too: self.textField.delegate = self. That way, the method will get called every time the user starts editing. Inside that methdod call self.testButton.hidden = YES;. In your *.m (implementation) file add the following:

Similarly, to make your button appear again, implement the - (void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField method. Inside it un-hide your button. Again, in your *.m file add the following:

Although delegates may be a mystery to you right now once you become familiar with them
you will realize they're very easy. And this is very important because iOS programming
relies heavily on delegates.
A delegate is a "notification" mechanism based on the "Hollywood" principle which is: don't call us; we'll call you.
In your case the class that contains the UITextField is interested in knowing when the UITextField begins editing and when it ends editing. But your class cannot be "polling" (that is, constantly asking) the text field to find out if the state changed. Instead you register your class with the text field and it will be the text field the one that will let you know when something happened. That will be thanks to the methods that you implemented.

Have you made sure that testButton has its IBOutlet set before you hide it?
If you want to button to disappear when the user begins editing the text field, try UIControlEventEditingDidBegin.
I have a textField that is set to change the tableView's dataSource with each letter that's entered (and call reloadData).
But for some reason, every time a letter is entered, the keyboard is dismissed.
Anyone know why?
Your text field is resigning because reloaded cells are sent a -resignFirstResponder message due to the fact that their survival is not guaranteed after a reload. See this related question for more.
Use this method textFieldShouldReturn: and add UITextFieldDelegate delegate in yourClass.h file. set delegate to yourTextfield and write following code in viewDidLoad method.
yourTextfield.delegate = self;
and also implement the textFieldShouldReturn: as following as

I got a NSTextView in a document-based cocoa application which is the result of a tutorial by Apple for programming a text editor within 15 minutes. In my "PureBasicDocument.m" implementation I got the textDidChange method which is called every time I change something in the NSTextView. I also got the method for the textStorageDidProcessEditing notification, but it is never called. How do I invoke it? I am sure I simply just forgot to assign outlets or something like that. But staring and looking over and over again at the textView and the window for their outlets did not bring me further. I am clueless. Better than nothing, here's at least the header file ("PureBasicDocument.h") of my document class for now:

right click the pureBasicDocument Object in the MainMenu.xib.You can see the outlets(textView).
from there you can make the connection to the respective tableview.

Working on an experiment on the iPad. Tried some variations on how to do this, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly...
I tap a UIButton on my MainViewController and a TextEntryModule is added to the view. TextEntryModule is its own class (for multiple instantiation) and it contains a UITextView called TextEntry (this all works at the moment).
I tap on the TextEntry UITextView and it brings up the keyboard and another view (located in MainViewController) with a UITextView called TextPreview. (this also works at the moment).
The part I'm having trouble with is synching the two UITextViews. The idea being that when I type into TextEntry, the text in TextPreview will also be updated.
Outlets are linked properly for the text fields, but I think I'm missing something "obvious":

Then you will have to set the TextEntryModule object's delegate to self since the controller now conform to the protocol and can "act" upon this notification.
You need to become a UITextFieldDelegate and monitor when text changes in the one field and then update the other field. Take a look at the documentation on it.
I know this question has been asked several times and I did read existing posts on this topic but I still need help.
I have 2 UIViewControllers - parent and child. I display the child UIViewController using the presentModalViewController as below:

The child view has a UIPickerView. When user selects an item from UIPickerView and clicks done, I have to dismiss the modal view and display the selected item on a UITextField in the parent view.
In child's button click delegate, I do the following:

Delegation is the way to go. I know some people that may be looking for an easier solution but trust me I have tried others and nothing works better than delegation. So anyone having the same problem, go read up on delegation and follow it step by step.
In your subviewcontroller.h - declare a protocol and declare delegate mthods in it.

Don't forget memory management!
If a low-memory warning comes in during your modal view's display, the parent's view will be unloaded. Then parent.myTextField is no longer referring to the right text field until the view is reloaded. You can force a reload of the view just by calling parent.view;
However, a better idea might be to have the parent view have a String property that can be set by the child view. Then, when the parent view reappears, put that data into the text field, inside viewWillAppear: for example. You'd want to have the value set to some default value for when the parent view initially shows up too.
-(void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL) animated doesn't get called for me either, exactly when it's a modal view controller. No idea why. Not incorrectly overridden anywhere in this app, and the same problem occurs on the other 2 apps I'm working on. I really don't think it works.
I've used the delegate approach before, but I think that following approach is pretty good as well.
I work around this by adding a private category to UIViewController, like so:
