I am trying to run IBM worklight (Developer Edition-Free) for the very first time on a mac machine other than mine.I have already set up worklight on my mac and it seems to work fine without any errors but when I try to do that on another machine I am getting this error during when I try to do Build all and deploy on a newly created project,
Any help is appreciated. FYI: there is no admin access for the current user.

This error usually means that you are lacking execute permissions in your account for either all or some files/folders. If you do not have admin access, ask your administrator to fix (add) the missing execute permission.

Can't run vb.net application as administrator across network

I have created a small application that auto elevates as administrator using the command:
requestedExecutionLevel level="highestAvailable" uiAccess="false"
This works fine if I run the application locally on the computer. However, if the computer tries to run my execuatable across the netork, it simply crashes on startup with a message "Do you want to send more information about the problem?" error. If I right click and run as administrator, my application will work and will prompt for admin credentials.
The folder I am running my application from (across the network) has full read/write permissions for 'everyone'.
My question is: Is there something I've missed? Why can I run my application locally and not get prompted but across the network crashes or requires admin?
Can anyone help explain what might be causing this issue?

I don't understand why it is making reference to System.Net.Sockets?? But that is what seems to be crashing my app.
Make sure that the other computers attempting to run your application have the correct .Net framework versions installed. If users are able to open the executable, there shouldn't be any other issues with permission.
If you have verified the framework versions, see if there is anything in the error report that might point to a reason for the crash. A lot of times there may be something in there that can point you in the right direction.
.NET applications don't like to run from the intranet by default.
Try this:
Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration
Click Configure Code Access Security Policy link
Click Adjust Zone Security
Set the My Computer and Local Intranet to Full Trust
If this works, then it is a local security issue. If you need it scripted out, you can use the caspol exe that is in the framework. Sample

Server 2012 IIS site on different drive

I'm trying to get IIS 8 on a brand new Server 2012 up and running to run a .net 4.5 app and I can't get it to work across drives

The current site is just a single file index.html.
If I copy the folder to anywhere on c: like c:\callsheet-test\ or c:\inetpub\callsheet-test it works perfectly once I change the target location in IIS 8 (site > basic settings).
It doesn't matter if there is an web.config file as a complex mvc/webforms app gives the same error.
I have tried copying the file with permissions and even thought the permissions seem to match for all users. I am still getting this error.
I have deleted the partition and and recreated it as a mount point c:\mount and the same issue happens. Copy the files to c:\notamount and they work fine.
This server is running on a VMware server. Windows 2012 x64 Standard.
Based on further investigation of the problem (via link in my comment above), I've found a workaround via here: change the Group Policy value of "Audit Removable Storage" from "Not Configured" to "No Auditing" and reboot. Bizarre I know. This setting is in Windows Settings/Security Settings/Advanced Audit Policy Configuration/System Audit Policies/Object Access.
Even though we're using VMWare and not Hyper-V this workaround still worked for me. Hopefully Microsoft can provide a answer.
I also had the same error and the solution was similar. I had installed Sql Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012 and it was at this time that I noticed IIS worker processes running from the system C: drive were unable to access configuration files on the E: drive. The site could only be loaded when on the C: drive, despite all the necessary NTFS permissions being granted through IIS_IUSRS, IUSR, Users and/or even the specific AppPool itself. This became evident when IIS couldn't access the E: drive even when running the AppPool (.NET 4.5) using an admin account other than the ApplicationPoolIdentity account (IIS APPPOOL.NET v4.5 in this context - verified in procexp.exe). Installing Sql Server 2012 was throwing errors during installation and required enabling auditing for object access among other settings.
Solution:
Run -> secpol.msc
Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Audit Policy
Change "Audit Object Access" policy to "No Auditing"
Hopefully, this background helps ease someone's headache. :-)

Cannot start LocalDB

Cannot start LocalDB instance, I have installed and re-installed over and over.
Keep getting this error :
Start of LocalDB instance "v11.0" failed because of the following error:
Error occurred during LocalDB instance startup: SQL Server process failed to start.
Anyone any advice ? ?
Microsoft SQL Server 2012, i have ensured the FULL installation options, stopped all services SQL related and tried restarting .
sqllocaldb info
gives me :

when i try
sqllocaldb start v11.0
I get the above error.
When all else fails and you don't care about data loss, delete and recreate your LocalDB\v11.0 database! At the command prompt
sqllocaldb delete v11.0
sqllocaldb create v11.0
(Sqllocaldb is in your PATH right? It was for me.)
I was getting a similar error, but when running
sqllocaldb start
The local db started successfully. Also when checking the event log I saw an error along the lines of
Windows API call WaitForMultipleObjects returned error code: 575
What fixed it for me:
In IIS, configure the app pool to run under an account with permissions to the DB on the server (advanced options of the app pool)
In the advanced option of the app pool, set Load User Profile to true

It worths looking at LocalDB log files too, it is more detailed than event log:
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\ProjectsV12\error.log
Besides recreating the instance I had to delete the content of this folder:
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\SSDT\
This is where I have the mdf and ldf files.
My solution:
Go to: %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\ and allow total control of the folder "Instances" to everyone group.
I know this is not OK but it solved my problem and i don't really care about the data of that folder as this is a developing and testing computer.
Same problem here. Here's how I fixed it using bits of the other solutions posted here.

I realized that I had SQL Server Management Studio installed on my development machine, but no other SQL components. I installed the database engine, shared components, and localdb from SQL Express

Found this article:
Cannot start LocalDB
Run the following in cmd to get the localdb instance name:
C:> sqllocaldb info
In my install, I had:
MSSQLLocalDB
ProjectsV13
I ran the following to delete the instances:
sqllocaldb delete MSSQLLocalDB
sqllocaldb delete ProjectsV13
I ran into issues trying to delete/create these (sqllocaldb delete MSSQLLocalDB). I ended up deleting all of the folders and files under '%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances*' (You need to stop SQL Server and kill all sqlserver processes)
Then running 'sqllocaldb create' created and started the default instance and all files.
Had this issue suddenly too but saw nothing weird in logs. Was able to get it running by running the following in an administrator command prompt:
sqllocaldb start
I had this issue. I was trying to use Windows Authentication through an application, but the IIS App Pool credentials were wrong. I was using my Windows user name (ie: NETWORK\name) as my identity, but I changed it to the built-in "LocalSystem" and it worked.
You should check the Event Log for additional information.

What worked for me was the local IIS application pool I was using was the ApplicationPoolIdentity and that did not have permission to login to MSSQLLocalDB. As soon as a I changed the app pool identity to my windows login account - I was able to connect ok.
Had this issue on Windows 10 when our application was run with compatibility for Windows 8 enabled. Turning off the compatibility setting fixed it.
Before you try something drastic:
After waiting for about 5 minutes it "healed" itself.
(May be this is what this log message is pointing at: "The RANU instance is terminating in response to its internal time out")

If your LocalDB instance is run by the Windows SYSTEM user (as in my case) the path to error.log is this (MS SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB on Win11): C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\<InstanceName> (enter this path subfolder by subfolder to avoid access problems!)

Login failure: unknown user name or bad password

We are running Visual Studio 2012 and Team Foundation Server 2012. In the Team Explorer window, I am able to successfully connect to our TFS environment. However, when I select the Security link under Team Project or Team Project Collection, I receive a message "Team Foundation Server: Login Failure: unknown user name or bad password".
I have not found a log file or anything in any event viewer file that helps debug this problem.
Is there a log file I can search for that contains some 'hints' as to want the connection problem is?
where are your credentials stored on your locale machine that are used to connection team foundation?
We realized that the root cause for this issue is that Visual Studio is trying to open a browser using the same credentials used to connect to TFS. If those credentials are not allowed to run processes on your machine (I suspect in your case it’s domain users on a different domain which is not trusted by the client domain) then opening the browser will fail. That explains why you can hit those URLs using a browser instance that is opened using your own credentials.This will be fixed in a future release of visual studio.
In TFS 2012, the management interface for permissions and project settings has largely shifted to Team Web Access.
Clicking any of the following settings from Team Explorer 2012 will produce the "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" error:

I have the same problem. To correct it (temporaly), you must run VS 2012 with this command:
C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /netonly /user:{domain\loginname} "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe"
Change {domain\loginname} by the domain and login name of your tfs domain account. A console will ask for your password and all works!
I also experienced the same issue with TFS. I found a solution for that. You have to remap your workspaces in your PC or Remote server. If you have any uncommitted changes in your projects, you have to keep backup, otherwise you will lost your changes.
Steps -
Go to Workspaces in Visual Studio
File-> Source Control -> Advanced -> Workspaces
Remove the current workspaces.
Remap the projects again.
I was experiencing the same issue with TFS Express 2012. I don't know if my situation applies to you but here are the facts:
My TFS instance was running on a remote server.
Neither that server or my local machine were on a domain.
I was using the same user account name on both machines but with
different passwords.
Setting the passwords to be same fixed the problem.
The functions that weren't working were the ones that launch the project website, which I could navigate to directly anyway.
Managed to fix the issue myself by mapping a drive to the area where TFS appears to have A cache located - but then I have 2 separate workspaces going across 2 separate domains

How to configure Jenkins/Hudson to Use LDAP on Snow Leopard Server

We run jenkins on a mac mini server and need to have it use OpenDirectory. (I took this up again after getting Nexus to work with OD.)
I went into the Manage Jenkins tab, opened up the LDAP config panel and it attempts to connect, but I am getting an error that it can't connect. I am trying to just supply a username and password.
So the reason I couldn't connect was the Manager DN has to be the complete FQ name, e.g. uid=root,cn=users,dc=ontometrics,dc=com.
Once I got that working, I was getting LDAP Error 49: bad credentials. To solve this, I found a great LDAP browser that installed in a few minutes on the mini server: LDAP Manager. That helped me see the FQN for the root account.
One last thing: once I had the right account, it auth'ed, but then on saving the settings, I got an ERROR 500. Turned out, that was because I had a few spaces in the FQN, so do not do dc=ontometrics, dc=com. Then it worked and I logged in!
BTW, the mini server with 8 GBs of RAM runs Jenkins beautifully.
