OpenCart auto complete broken on featured module - module

apologies if this has already been covered.
I have an issue where i can't add products to the featured module as the auto-complete doesn't find anything and never drops down. Is this something that's happened for any one else?
Currently using v1.5.6
Error shown in console after any action on the featured module admin page is...
"event.returnValue is deprecated. Please use the standard event.preventDefault() instead. "
OpenCarts error log shows...
'PHP Notice: Undefined variable: filter_category in /home/sites/cardboutique.ie/public_html/admin/controller/catalog/product.php on line 1434'
I've re-upped all the files (as it was working) but no joy.
I also doubt the first error is the main issue but don't have decent enough knowledge to vouch for that.

How to solve crashes in Google Play Console?

In Google Play Console on the dashboard of your application there
is a graph with Crashes & ANRs.
What is the best practice to solve
crashes to provide the best service to your users? My application is
written in Python in Kivy framework.
Navigate to Quality -> Android Vitals -> Crashes and ANRs.
This lists each event and on the right you will see a "->" arrow labelled "View Details".
Click this, scroll down past the graph and you'll see the Stack traces.
This is what you need to look at to fix your code.
The top line will be the error, then it'll show the line of code where the error occurred, for example:
java.lang.NullPointerException:
at com.test.MyApp.doSomethingCool (MyClass.java:123)
at com.test.MyApp.somethingElse (AnotherClass.java:321)
Here you have some null value causing an issue in the "doSomethingCool" function of your app and that code should be on line 123 of "MyClass.java".
The trace lines after that show what called that function that failed, so above, this is showing that "doSomethingCool" was called from function "somethingElse" on line 321 and that code is in "AnotherClass.java".
This example is for Java.
--Updated--
If you are coding in Python, then the stack trace may not show you where in your own code the problem lies. Instead your best bet is to search on Google for the top line error and hope that the answer is online.
Separately from stack trace analysis I would highly recommend that you place your project into source control with GIT or SVN, specifically so that you can see what changes might have caused an error.
Update your code in the repository only when it's working and then you will always have a safe saved version that is known as working. You can then easily compare your current code and see what changes might have caused an error. This is especially useful for Android, which regularly updates versions of shared libraries.

Magento 2, PageBuilder - adding custom content type

I'm trying to add custom content type to existing page builder module in Magento 2 following https://devdocs.magento.com/page-builder/docs/create-custom-content-type/overview.html
Bit of a problem that docs is kind of outdated, but the biggest issue for me right now, is that for some reason, panel with settings of content type is not loading. Console doesn't throw any errors and I'm not even sure how to debug this.
Normal behavior: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1OClPda-WGuc7idNogUnTz0wi4ZSk_Qu_
Behavior of custom content type (settings are not loading at all): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1I-IeTImec-M8DuLfgjiA193mhm0Fwtd8
Maybe someone already stumbled upon issue like this and know possible ways to solve it?
Ok I've found out what problem was, so I'm answering this question in case someone will need this in future.
Check your ui_component xml structure, I was having an issue with naming there (namespace was not correct), and that's why it was not loading.

Odoo 9 - cannot load custom module

I am brand new to odoo, just installed version 9 and made a module 'aidentest' using
.>>python odoo.py scaffold aidentest addons
That created the aidentest module in the addons folder. Uncommented everything in the autogenerated files
but when I went to check out my 'Hello World' page at
http://localhost:8069/aidentest/aidentest
I got a 404 not found
So I went to apps to try and load my module, but I could not find it.
Does anyone know what I need to do on Odoo 9 to load up and start coding my custom module?
Briefly: You have to activate developer mode by going to Top right menu>about>activate developer mode
I had basically given up, and was mindlessly clicking about when I hit the 'About' link on the generic-whiteguy dropdown. I had to actually stop thinking before I was able to locate the completely senseless place where they put the thing I need.
The About modal window popped up, and in it was an activate the developer mode button
Some things changed immediately, but I still couldn't find my custom module.
Then I walked away, came back and when I returned I had some auto-generated emails (new things had loaded - slowly). Did this mean that maybe my module had also become accessible? I checked, and sure enough, there it was.
ZERO DOCUMENTATION about this
Please check the config file. Then send the last error it has.

getting vanilla php to display errors instead of blank page, like ROR does [duplicate]

How to get useful error messages in PHP?
Im currently learning php and at the same time a bit of ruby on rails, one of the thing ive noticed about ruby on rails that i really like is when theres an error on page, it will display you an error page pointing you in the direction of what is wrong.. like the image bellow
But when i get an error in php i just get a blank page, which means i have to read through each line of code to try and find what went wrong, as ive just started most of my errors tend to be little syntax problems, which are relatively easy to fix, but relatively hard to find if you've missed a ; off the end of a line.
Is there a line that i could put into my <head> during development to show me these errors ? Somthing like <?php show_errors ?>
Or is there an alternative, at the moment im using sublime text 2, Mamp and Firefox to work in. Is there a setting in any of those that i can turn on to allow me to see errors, either code validation in sublime text 2 or a setting in mamp or firefox that will show me an error page instead of a blank one ?
If i was to use a framework do any of them have built in error alerts ?
To resolve your blank page issue, you'll have to reconfigure PHP
display_errors = on
display_startup_errors = on
It is important to set them outside your script (i.e. not with ini_set()), otherwise parse errors will still result in a blank page. See documentation for details.
Then, on top of your script, assure that every kind of error gets shown:
error_reporting(-1)
For nicer error messages you could install XDebug (it is a common extension, not a framework and does not affect your code in any way).

Mysterious FireBug Error repeats with ExtJS

When debugging ExtJS 4 (tried both versions 4.1.0 and 4.1.1), FireBug repeatedly shows the following error: An invalid or illegal string was specified
http://docs.sencha.com/ext-js/4-1/extjs/ext-all.js
Line 18. It does not break on the error, though that option is specified. Additionally, neither my code or ext-debug.js and it's loader seem to actually call ext-all.js.
This error gets logged to Firebug's console about once per minute, which is annoying. What bothers me is that I cannot get the error to go away. Is this a FireBug bug? An ExtJS bug? Aliens? How can I debug the debugger?
I had the same problem before and I've solved it by removing a special character at the end of my JS file! (app.js I think)
It was weird, but the problem came from hidden special characters like: Zero-width non-joiner or Right-to-left mark.
Open another JS file but do not copy/paste your code there. Just write it again and check whether the problem exists or not.
And don't forget to check your data if you have some. As this article explains about the problem: http://www.ashorlivs.fr/javascript-jquery/article/an-invalid-or-illegal-string-was
For general debugging see this link http://www.sencha.com/learn/debugging-ext-js-applications/
You can also use ext-all-dev.js while in development mode.
There is another excellent tool on top of firebug, at this link http://www.illuminations-for-developers.com/
PS: I still didn't figured out how to post a comment. I guess it comes when I have more points/reputation. Hence adding it as an answer. thanks.
