How to limit length of data in the output -sql - sql

SELECT po.po_number .... SOME QUERY

Here the output that I am getting is 10-digit numeric value , but I want 10-digit as well as 8 digit numeric, please suggest.

On SQL Server, just CAST or CONVERT your data to the output type you want:
SELECT
CONVERT(NUMERIC(10,0), po.po_number) AS [Number10d],
CONVERT(NUMERIC(8,0), po.po_number) AS [Number8d]
...

SQL Server - Dynamically Filling the column Values with 0's as per the fixed length

I have a column with the given values
MRN
1946
456
27
557
The column values length is fixed.
If at all any value is less than 6characters,then it should concate 0's to the left and make it 6characters length.
The desired output is
MRN
001946
000456
000027
000557
This is called left paddings. In SQL Server, this is typically done with more basic string operations:
select right(replicate('0', 6) + mrn, 6)
If mrn is a number, then use the concat() function:
select right(concat(replicate('0', 6), mrn), 6)
You can also use the FORMAT function for this. (Demo)
SELECT FORMAT(MRN ,'D6')
FROM YourTable
Change the number 6 to whatever your total length needs to be:
SELECT REPLICATE('0',6-LEN(EmployeeId)) + EmployeeId
If the column is an INT, you can use RTRIM to implicitly convert it to a VARCHAR
SELECT REPLICATE('0',6-LEN(RTRIM(EmployeeId))) + RTRIM(EmployeeId)
And the code to remove these 0s and get back the 'real' number:
SELECT RIGHT(EmployeeId,(LEN(EmployeeId) - PATINDEX('%[^0]%',EmployeeId)) + 1)
We can achieve this by adding leading zero's
select RIGHT('0000'+CAST(MRN AS VARCHAR(10)),6)

How to preserve leading zeros when converting to a decimal in oracle

I am running the below query in oracle.

Here, i m getting the result (cesg_amt) as -156.57. But i need the result as -0000000000156.57.
I need the leading zeros with - retained (leading 0's and also the two digits after the decimal).
I have tried as to_char(ta.CESG_amt, '0000000000000.00') AS cesg_amt in the query but of no use.
Can you please help me what needs to be done in the DECIMAL field to get the result as below.
You may use such a formatting :

Splitting field and adding decimal point to create numeric value SQL

I have a field in SQL Server 2014 that I am working with that looks like this:

20060323
I want to add a split the field and add a decimal point and create a numerical field. This is what I would like to see:
**RawField**
200602.02
200603.23
So I need to split the field, add the decimal point, and convert to a numerical value. I tried some code but was getting an error. Please see my code below:
select top 1000 cast(SUBSTRING(cast(RawField as varchar(6)),1,6) + cast('.' as varchar(1)) + SUBSTRING(cast(RawField as varchar(2)),6,2) as int)
from Table
I get an error of:
Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 11
Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '200602.' to data type int.
Is this a good approach?
you want to convert the string to numeric with 2 decimal places ?
select convert(decimal(10,2), RawField) / 100.0
I guest your RawField contains other alphanumeric after that and you only posted the first 8 characters ?
this should work. Just take the first 8 characters and convert. Simple and direct
select convert(decimal(10,2), left(RawField, 8)) / 100.0

You are trying to cast string with decimal number to int.
Use float/numeric/decimal when casting
select cast(SUBSTRING(RawField ,1,6) + cast('.' as varchar(1)) + SUBSTRING(RawField ,7,2) as numeric(16,2))

Convert exponential to number in sql

I have a large amount of card tokens (16 digits) uploaded from xml file to sql-server. The problem is I see them as expression, sample below:

Any suggestion to change them to a 16 digit number? I have tried to change the data type, but got error"Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '3.37201E+15' to data type int"

Try to cast your string to float before converting it :
SELECT CONVERT(numeric(16,0), CAST(TOKEN AS FLOAT))

I don't know what's the format of those numbers in your XML source, but with the data you provide, you'll end up with 33733 for instance followed by a bunch of zeroes. If you have a bigger precision in your XML, maybe you should tweak your importing settings to keep this precision instead of trying to deal with that in the DB.

Try testing your strings with ISNUMERIC to avoid the casting errors you're getting. Adding a raw output of your column will allow you to check which value fails to convert (i.e. converts to 0).

The issue is that all values in the 'a' column return 1 when passed to the ISNUMERIC() function.

Sum of data in varchar column

i have to sum element in a column(SCENARIO1) that is varchar and contain data like (1,920, 270.00, 0, NULL) but when i try to convert data into int or decimal i get this error :
"he command is wrong when converting value "4582014,00" to int type"
here is my request :

If you couldn't convert your '4582014,00' into decimal, there's a chance you have different decimal separator on your server. You could look what it is or just try '.'
4582014,00 should be a decimal
try this (I assume that youre query is working) and changed convert(int into decimal)

The problem is due to the fact that the sum function isn't decoding SCENARIO1 as containing a CSV list of numbers. The way the sum function is usually used is to sum a lot of numbers drawn from multiple rows, where each row provides one number.
Try doing it in two steps. In step 1 convert the table into first normal form perhaps by UNPIVOTING. The 1NF table will have one number per row, and will contain more rows than the initial table.
The second step is to compute the sum. If you want more than one sum in the result, use GROUP BY to create groups, and then select a sum(somecolumn). This will yield one sum for each group.
Try this, I haven't got a way to test yet, but I will test and replace if incorrect.
