I have a particular table in access which I am trying to migrate it to SQL Server, the problem is that I am trying to create a table in sql server with the required fields and there are around 200 variables. Hence I am trying to find out if there is any easy way of copying the access data type in the sql server migration assistant.
If not I will have to manually type in the access data type in the create table sql query.

I am new to SQL and I started learning it, I use it mainly in excel to get data from an outer Database
I first go to data then Refresh all then from the menu I choose connection properties
Then a dialogue appears and I input my code in the window called Command text from the Tab Definition
I added images to show where I input my SQL code
My question is what type of SQL do I input there ?
is it mySQL or SQLServer or what ??, so I can learn it, because some commands just don't work with me the way they are supposed to do
You can connect to any database type as long as you have the appropriate ODBC drivers. For example, here is documentation for MySQL for Excel. Quote from article "Use Microsoft Query to retrieve external data":
If the external database that you want to access is not supported by the
ODBC drivers that are installed with Microsoft Query, then you
need to obtain and install a Microsoft Office-compatible ODBC driver
from a third-party vendor, such as the manufacturer of the database.

OLAP databases do not require ODBC drivers. When you install Microsoft Query, drivers are installed for databases that were created
by using Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. To connect to other
OLAP databases, you need to install a data source driver and client
software.
Whichever database type you connect to, you will still be using Microsoft's SQL variant (as developed for SQL Server). As a beginner you're not going to notice too many differences right off the top. Most of the differences are related to data types, such as DATE vs DATETIME. Here is a wiki on SQL Compliance and this article on MS Access SQL will also apply to Excel Query.

Hey IO have an old access data base and I have reeated the New data base using SQL Server Management Studio but all the data is still in the Access data base and I was wondering how to link these two. I have been trying to create the linked tables in access using the ODBC tool but none of the table I want are appearing?
Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can do this?
Also I then have started to create the front end of the database using Visual Studio but cant get the fields to populate as the SQL database currently has no data linked to it
Instead of linking tables have you considered using SQL Server Express (you did not mention what the 'new database' is, assume Access?) and the data import wizard to port the data to SQL Server? You get all the tools by downloading 'SQL Server with tools' from Microsoft. And use SSMS for management functions, it is much easier than the Visual Studio interface.
I am a programmer and am wanting to undertake a project of converting an Access database to an SQL database.
Is this pretty easy to do? Can I just use a tool to create all the tables with the same names and 'copy' over the data?
I know that Access has built in reporting features. Does SQL have these reporting features? If not, is it easy to create them?
You just need to import your access to sql server database.

MS Access is not a database at all, by default, it uses the Jet or ACE database to store data, but Access will also work perfectly well with data stored in a number of other databases, MS SQL included. There is no need to change from an MS Access front-end when you are moving the tables to a new back-end. SQL Server does not have all the user-interface and reporting tools that MS Access has, it is a database, not "a rapid application database development and reporting tool"

I want to create local a database in SQL Server 2008 R2 using AS/400 schema...how can i do that..i don't know what is AS/400 schema in SQL...i tried to search on internet but not able to find any helpful link.

You would need to extract the file structures from the AS/400 and manually create, I know of no automated method, the corresponding SQL tables.
I'm working in an Access 2007 database and need help migrating tables to SQL server. Is this possible to do having only purchased Access 2007 or do I need to download a separate program for SQL? When I try to create a new SQL database or open an existing one through Access, I'm getting a "CREATE DATABASE" or "CREATE TABLE" error and not sure what the issue is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you need to install it. There is a free edition of SQL Server, called Sql server express. Database size limit is 4gb. If it suits you go for it. Also, i belive Access has migration tool built in.
Update: In Access 2007 - Database Tools -> Move Data -> Sql Server ( follow the wizard ).
