Cancelling an in-progress WSAPI/LBAPI request - rally

I have been developing an app which processes many WSAPI and LBAPI requests which take an extended period of time to complete. In the event that certain parameters are changed, these requests become irrelevant and canceling them would be the best thing to do, in an effort to clear up the network queue for the new set of requests that need to take place.
I have searched the docs of both APIs and haven't been able to find any way included in the SDK to cancel these requests. I'm wondering if there might be a way to do this manually, or if there is a function I might be missing.

You haven't found it because it doesn't exist in Ext. :-) We have run into similar things in the past but haven't had a critical need to build this into the framework yet.

Need suggestions: Send multiple images to backend, perform upload operation in backend, send response

I need some best practice guidelines for a backend service in a scenario like this one:
UI sends multiple images for uploading to the backend service
Backend service receives all of the images and processes upload to storage one by one
There can be failure in 1 or multiple image upload
My question is how do I send the response towards UI if my backend service is unable to upload 1 or more file(s).
One way can be to send failed and successful image link together in a JSON response body. So the UI knows about the failure and handles it in its own way.
Another way can be to send only the successfully uploaded images' link which is the best case scenario.
Any suggestions will be welcomed with some reference links.
Use an Orchestrator - something specific that can coordinate multiple actions and provide a meaningful result back to the caller.
This might be as simple as a component sitting in the UI that orchestrates calls to the backend. The UI component and the backend service might be designed as parts of a cohesive solution, or the UI component might simply act as a type of client/proxy/facade to some random backend service.
UI calls the orchestrator with references to all the images it needs uploading.
The orchestrator works through the items, uploading each as you prefer (sequentially or in parallel, etc). For each file, handle errors however you prefer - e.g. try once and die gracefully on failure; put errors into a queue or some other mechanism for retry (how many times is up to you); etc.
Based on rules internal to the orchestrator, return status to the caller.
For potentially long-running processes (like file uploads) make sure the call to the orchestrator is asynchronous.
Rather than only returning "complete" result at the end, the orchestrator might provide a simple status back, allowing callers to get some idea of where processing is at. For example, you might have a call-back (from the orchestrator to it's caller) that simply emits very simple statuses like: processing, failed and complete. A more complex solution would be for the orchestrator to return more specific info like %complete and detailed error info.
Have a look at how the big cloud providers do complex file uploads by reading their documentation and studying their API's.
I need some best practice guidelines for a backend service
In no particular order:
Keep it as simple as possible - generally, the fewer moving parts the better. E.g. pay attention to the Single Responsibility Principle (SRP).
Clean up after yourself. If the upload service generates any data - make sure you have a clean-up process so you don't end up with mountains of un-needed data lying around, especially stuff like image files. If you design an upload solution that maintains state (which is independent of what happens to the images once they are uploaded) then you'll be storing data which probably won't be needed once the images are all processed.
Think about support - not just developer debugging but also operational support. Getting your solution into production is not the end result, it's just the beginning.
If designing this solution across teams (e.g. frontend and backend teams) make sure both teams are involved in the design. If the backend team can't provide a solution that works for the frontend team then it's not going to end well.
Think about the likely error scenarios and how can you handle them.
This isn't really just a question of best practice, as there are multiple ways you could implement it, more than one of which could be valid. This is actually an architecture and design question, with more than one valid answer, hence I don't think it fits as a Stack Overflow question and you will not get references to any one correct approach.
That said, by way of an answer I will outline what I think you need. At a very high level, and not necessarily in this order but taking these factors into account, I would:
Design the UI process flow. For example, you may decide that the user process will have several stages:
User selects first image for upload;
User selects each subsequent image for upload;
User presses some kind of "Go" button after selecting all images;
System now uploads the batch, and user receives a response confirming success or otherwise;
User has option to click through to detailed success/error details.
Design the required success/error reports
Design the data needed to support the overall functionality
Provide one or more APIs giving the upload function and the report function(s) the CRUD access they need to this data
If you hit any specific technical issues at any stage, then please post a new questions accordingly as you go.
As to the point you mentioned, how to send the UI response, there is more than one valid way but I would return a basic success/falure response initially, containing only minimal details such as number of successes, and return more details in further messages in response to user actions (such as clicking through to detailed success/error details), at which point I would retrieve the requested error details from the database.
As I said at the start of my answer, I don't think your question can be answered just in terms of best practices, as it's a whole architecture and design question, but I hope my answer helps you along this path.

Simple time-based chest push notification setup

Hello I am trying to create a simple push-notification system similar to this common use case:
1. The user gets a chest and can either watch an ad to skip the wait time or wait one hours for the chest to open. The app sends an upstream request which sets up a downstream push notification that shall be delivered in one hour to let the user know the chest is ready.
2a. The user then waits an hour, gets a push notification (outside of the app) to open their chest and they do!
or
2b. They wait 20 minutes then decide to watch the ad. The app sends an upstream request which cancels the pending push notification which would have otherwise been delivered in 40 minutes.
Okay awesome so that is the problem and I am having a hard time understanding how to do this. I have looked over the documentation for each of these programs but they seem designed for downstream push notifications. It just seems odd there is no built-in support for this use case. It seems like such a common use case.
I so far found 3 solutions that will integrate into my cross-platform Unity setup and provide services for free or super-cheap:
Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS)
Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
OneSignal
Amazon seems to group clients into "Topics" so I guess I would be setting up a one-device-topic and essentially. I can subscribe and unsubscribe from them but it doesn't seem to support a topic with a 60 minute delay.

So basically I can add attributes to my message but it would seem I need to implement the server-side code to read a delay attribute then somehow queue a message for delay. Maybe I am missing something?
For Firebase I pretty much see the same thing as Amazon. There are topics https://firebase.google.com/docs/cloud-messaging/android/topic-messaging and a means to send upstream messages https://firebase.google.com/docs/cloud-messaging/android/send-with-console but with the messages I don't see anyway here to get the time delay https://firebase.google.com/docs/cloud-messaging/unity/topic-messaging I see conditions towards the bottom of that article but I don't know if it is meant for this use case.
OneSignal has the easiest to scroll-through API. I'll refer to some strings that you can CTRL-F by using the format ("Create Notif") because everything is on this one page: https://documentation.onesignal.com/reference
So basically I can ("Send to Specific Devices") which I guess would be the sending device, then I can ("Schedule notification for future delivery.") using the send_after parameter. And finally, if need be, I can ("Cancel notification"). So this appears to be everything I need. I'm currently looking at this option and trying to figure out how to actually get this working.
So there is my progress over the last few hours researching each of these options. I am hoping you can help me better understand how I may be misunderstanding the above options as this seems to me a very common use-case. Perhaps I am just not googling the question correctly. Any help appreciated.
Whenever there's a likelihood that you'll need to cancel a significant percent of the notifications you send, you should use local notifications. That way you can easily schedule and cancel them locally without making any network requests. Also, this solution works for offline devices which is great for games (played on planes, etc...)

How to make repeat notification with stackdriver

using stackdriver's url monitoring.
When it goes down, one time will come but the next will not come.
I would like you to repeatedly notify this if the situation does not change in the next 5 minutes, but I do not know the setting.

I'm a product manager with Stackdriver. This is a feature request that we have heard before and are aware of.
This is, unfortunately, not supported at this time, though there are some workarounds:
PagerDuty can be used as a notification channel, and PagerDuty supports repeated notifications.
Webhook can be used as a notification channel, which can be used to create a fully custom delivery mechanism (including one that delivers repeatedly).

Reliability of Google Calendar Push Notifications

I have encountered a problem, that Google notifications quite often do not arrive without any apparent reason. This makes them almost unusable for me, since it seems like they appear just in 60% of cases.
Is this common? Should I stop relying on them and set up a one minute scheduler for syncing event insted?

AFAIK, notification is not 100% reliable also stated in the document. As an alternative you could use Incremental sync:
Incremental sync allows you to retrieve all the resources that have been modified since the last sync request. To do this, you need to perform a list request with your most recent sync token specified in the syncToken field. Keep in mind that the result will always contain deleted entries, so that the clients get the chance to remove them from storage.

blocked requests in io_service

I have implemented client server program using boost::asio library.
In my implementation there are times when io_service.run() blocks indefinitely. In case I pass another request to io_service, the blocked call begins to execute normally.
Is there any way to see what are the pending requests inside the io_service queue ?
I have not used work object to block the run call!
There are no official ways to query into the io_service to find all pending request. However, there are a few techniques to debug the problem:
Boost 1.47 introduced handler tracking. Simply define BOOST_ASIO_ENABLE_HANDLER_TRACKING and Boost.Asio will write debug output, including timestamps, an identifier, and the operation type, to the standard error stream.
Attach a debugger dig through the layers to find and examine operation queues. This answer covers both understanding handler tracking and using a debugger to examine an operation queue for the epoll_reactor.
Finally, if you believe it is a bug, then it may be worth updating to the latest version or checking the revision history for relevant changes. Regardless, describing the problem in more detail may allow others to help identify the source of the problem and potential solutions.
Now i spent a few hours reading and experimenting (i need more boost::asio functionality for work as well) and it turns out: Kind of.
But it is not as straightforward or readable as one might hope.
Under the hood (well, under the outermost hood) io_service has a bunch of other services registered, which do the work async_ operations of their respective fields require.
These are the "Services" described in the reference.
Now sadly, the services stay registered, wether there is work to do or not. For example if your io_service has a udp socket, it will still have all the corresponding services, even if the socket itself is inactive.
But you can ask your io_service which services it has. Lets say you want to know wether your io_service called m_io_service has an udp datagram_socket_service. Then you can call something like:
if (boost::asio::has_service<boost::asio::datagram_socket_service<boost::asio::ip::udp> >(m_io_service))

}
That does not help a lot, because it will be true no matter wether the socket is active or not. But after you know, that you have that service, you can get a ref to it using use_service instead of has_service but with the same elegant amount of <>.
And now you can inspect the service to see what it is up to. Sadly, it will not tell you what the outstanding handlers names are (probably partly because it does not know them) but if it is a socket, you can get its implemention_type and with that check whether it currently is_open or find either the local_endpoint as well as the remote_endpoint.
In case of a deadline_timer_service you can, among other stuff, find out when it expires_at.

This information should then hopefully allow you to determine which async_ operation did not return.
And if not, at the very least you can cancel any unexpectedly active services.
