How to create AsyncCallback call for Presenter Widget in GWTP? - gwtp

Ok, we often see people use AsyncCallback for client to call methods from Server. That's easy, even more easy if we use GWTP platform.
My question is how we create AsyncCallback for a presenter widget in GWTP? Thre is no server involved.
Ex, i want to create a ConfirmationPresenter which has 2 buttons (ok & cancel). When user click ok the system will go to onSuccess of AsyncCallback method.

If you can provide a very simple example based on GWTP platform then it will be great. Some other examples on internet was not based on GWTP platform & too complicated.

Helix Toolkit How to use MouseWheelEventHandler to run specific methods in other classes

I would like to run particular methods of a custom Camera class whenever the user zooms in or out in the helix toolkit view that my program is running inside of.
A key feature of this functionality is getting the mouseargs from the event so I can adjust the camera in a way that is proportional to the number of scroll ticks.
I began to try this:

but was having a lot of trouble figuring out how to pass a MouseWheelEventArgs object into the onMouseWheeled method when I'm trying to add the onMouseWheeled method to the MouseWheelEventHandler. Assuming nothing is fundamentally wrong with that sentence, which is nothing more than wishful thinking, The last thing I am trying to figure out is how to get mouse wheel event args so that I can pass it into a method.
Then I tried this:

What does invoke actually do? I only have this running to try to see if its working because onPropertyChanged methods I always use run the Invoke command like so. I'm actually not sure where I'm going with this.
How does the handler work?
How do the event args get called out so that I can use them and pass them as objects to other methods?

Try to use preview mouse wheel event

null pointer exception on android asynctaskloader

I'm trying to do a twitter android application. I'm still working on the login.
So I'm using asynctaskloader after a friend suggested me to use it. I believe I get a null pointer exception at this line:

You're not using the loader class right.
You need to call the LoaderManager with this line:
getLoaderManager().initLoader(ID_FOR_THIS_LOADER, DATA_BUNDLE, CALLBACK);
If you're in a Fragment you need to add getActivity() at the beginning, and if you are using the android.support.v4.jar, you will call getSupportLoaderManager().
You place this line in your onCreate or onResume method. It will simply notify your activity that you want to start a new loader.
After that you'll need to implement the callbacks notifying that your loader is created/finished. This callbacks are implemented by the object you specified as third parameter (CALLBACK). It can be an activity, a fragment... You will find the syntax online.
Here is what it will look like:

Metro c++ async programming and UI updating. My technique?

The problem: I'm crashing when I want to render my incoming data which was retrieved asynchronously.
The app starts and displays some dialog boxes using XAML. Once the user fills in their data and clicks the login button, the XAML class has in instance of a worker class that does the HTTP stuff for me (asynchronously using IXMLHTTPRequest2). When the app has successfully logged in to the web server, my .then() block fires and I make a callback to my main xaml class to do some rendering of the assets.
I am always getting crashes in the delegate though (the main XAML class), which leads me to believe that I cannot use this approach (pure virtual class and callbacks) to update my UI. I think I am inadvertently trying to do something illegal from an incorrect thread which is a byproduct of the async calls.
Is there a better or different way that I should be notifying the main XAML class that it is time for it to update it's UI? I am coming from an iOS world where I could use NotificationCenter.
Now, I saw that Microsoft has it's own Delegate type of thing here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh755798.aspx
Do you think that if I used this approach instead of my own callbacks that it would no longer crash?
Let me know if you need more clarification or what not.

Edit: BTW, the error I get when I go to update the UI is:
"An invalid parameter was passed to a function that considers invalid parameters fatal."
In this case I am just trying to execute in my callback is

It appears you are updating the UI thread from the wrong context. You can use task_continuation_context::use_arbitrary() to allow you to update the UI. See the "Controlling the Execution Thread" example in this document (the discussion of marshaling is at the bottom).
So, it turns out that when you have a continuation, if you don't specify a context after the lambda function, that it defaults to use_arbitrary(). This is in contradiction to what I learned in an MS video.
However by adding use_currrent() to all of the .then blocks that have anything to do with the GUI, my error goes away and everything is able to render properly.
My GUI calls a service which generates some tasks and then calls to an HTTP class that does asynchronous stuff too. Way back in the HTTP classes I use use_arbitrary() so that it can run on secondary threads. This works fine. Just be sure to use use_current() on anything that has to do with the GUI.
Now that you have my answer, if you look at the original code you will see that it already contains use_current(). This is true, but I left out a wrapping function for simplicity of the example. That is where I needed to add use_current().

Asynchronous callback - gwt

I am using gwt and postgres for my project. On the front end i have few widgets whose data i am trying to save on to tables at the back-end when i click on "save project" button(this also takes the name for the created project).
In the asynchronous callback part i am setting more than one table. But it is not sending the data properly. I am getting the following error:
org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: insert or update on table "entitytype" violates foreign key constraint "entitytype_pname_fkey"
Detail: Key (pname)=(Project Name) is not present in table "project".
But when i do the select statement on project table i can see that the project name is present.

Is it wrong to set more than one in the asynchronous callback where all the other tables are dependent on a particular table?

With that foreign key constraint, you must make sure the erasync.setProjects(...) has completed before you insert the rest of the stuff.
I suggest doing the erasync.setEntityAttribute(...) magic in (or from) an onsuccess callback instead of jumping right to it.
You're firing several request in which (guessing from the error message) really should be called in sequence.
Any time you call more than one rpc call; try to think that you should be able to rearrange them in any order (because that's allmost what actually happens because they're asynchronous)... If running them in reverse order does not make sense; you cannot fire them sequentially!
Two ways to fix your problem:
Nesting:

The second option is most likely going to be much less messy, as several nested asynch callbacks quickly grows quite wide and confusing, also you make just one request.
Because of nature of Async, don't assume setProjects(...) method will be called on the server before setEntityAttribute or setEntityType.
Personally, I prefer to have a Project class which contains all necessary info, for example:

What is the most efficient way to handle the lifecycle of an object with COM interop?

I have a Windows Workflow application that uses classes I've written for COM automation. I'm opening Word and Excel from my classes using COM.
I'm currently implementing IDisposable in my COM helper and using Marshal.ReleaseComObject(). However, if my Workflow fails, the Dispose() method isn't being called and the Word or Excel handles stay open and my application hangs.
The solution to this problem is pretty straightforward, but rather than just solve it, I'd like to learn something and gain insight into the right way to work with COM. I'm looking for the "best" or most efficient and safest way to handle the lifecycle of the classes that own the COM handles. Patterns, best practices, or sample code would be helpful.
I can not see what failure you have that does not calls the Dispose() method. I made a test with a sequential workflow that contains only a code activity which just throws an exception and the Dispose() method of my workflow is called twice (this is because of the standard WorkflowTerminated event handler). Am I missing something? Concerning the lifecycle-related methods of an Activity (and consequently of a Workflow) object, please check this post: Activity "Lifetime" Methods. If you just want a generic article about disposing, check this.
Basically, you should not rely on hand code to call Dispose() on your object at the end of the work. You probably have something like this right now:

Instead, you need to use try blocks to catch any exception that might be triggered and call dispose at that point. This is the canonical way:

This is so common that C# has a special construct that generates the same exact code [see note] as shown above; this is what you should be doing most of the time (unless you have some special object construction semantics that make a manual pattern like the above easier to work with):
