I'm working on an old pc with dos 5.0 installed.
I have plugged in a storage media on it, PC can easily see the directories and files, but i cannot overwrite or add directories/files.
So, if i would like to change permissions to one directory, how can i do this?
I have tried with: attrib +a +r a:\DIR1 /s /d
[but the /d option is not enabled on this old version of attrib and so it doesn't work]
I tried to download a latest version of attrib, but it gave me the message "DOS version not supported".
The moral is that i would like to do the same of linux's CHMOD in DOS 5.
I really need your help! i have searched in every site (google ecc.) but i didn't succeeded in finding the right solution.
thanks, have a nice day
dimakx
p.s.=if you know a third party software , too, that works in DOS 5 and could help me, please: notify me :)
What sort of storage media is this? Is it something that could be hardware write-protected (e.g., a floppy disk)?

Before reporting to Microsoft I want to ask here. I have a problem that I cannot see Live Visual Tree of my WinUI 3 application. I cannot even see the in-app toolbar. I can see both in WPF and UWP application, no problems. I have these options for hot reload, that should be fine.
I am using VS2022 17.3.1 and Windows App SDK in version 1.1.4. Weird is that it was functioning without problems, but one restart of application just broke that. I also tried adding the ENABLE_XAML_DIAGNOSTICS_SOURCE_INFO to environment variables manually, but no luck there.
It seems that 32-bit WinUI 3 app is working fine, it only affects 64-bit WinUI 3 applications. Even the new and blank ones. Packaged/unpacked type doesn't affect the problem.
I tried uninstall and install VS again, no changes.
So I did finally find a solution (more of a workaround) to this.
Run following commands in elevated cmd, where you replace WindowsAppRuntime version with version you currently have (for me it is Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.1_1004.584.2120.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe):
takeown /f "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.1_1004.584.2120.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" /r /d y
icacls.exe "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.1_1004.584.2120.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" /grant Users:(RD,R,REA,RX) /t
Don't know what it does, but it is working. This solution is taken over from Developer Community
UPDATE:
You have to repeat this procedure when you update Windows App SDK to a new version.
Here is a PowerShell command that loops over all WindowsAppRuntime folders and applies the fixes on #benderto's answer.
Get-ChildItem -Path 'C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\' -Filter 'Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime*' | Foreach {
takeown /f "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\$_" /r /d y
icacls.exe "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\$_" /grant "Users:(RD,R,REA,RX)" /t
}
You don't need to restart Visual Studio for this to take effect. Restarting the debugging session is enough.
After lots of reinstallion, 100+?, I came across with this information then problem solved.
It is very frustrating the recent quality of Visual Studio 2022 after 17.2. Each update gets me reinstall loops again, again and again, just because something broken.
This time, MAUI (WinUI 3) XAML Hot Reload won't work.
XAML Hot Reload
So I created 3 VMs and installed with different detail of workloads, and tried to figure out "What's wrong". But I failed.
The error seems random. However, I did get some thing strange.
The Hot Reload was "working" after installaion and I left the VM on. After awhile back, I stopped debugging and restarted to debug, the working one became "not working" somehow over time, so I compared two snapshot, one work, one did not. After comparing installion configuration, run with user, run with admin, MAUI App with .net 6.0, MAUI App with template 7.0, both registry, both disk contain (entire C:). I found nothing, all identical as they should be.
Checking Logs:
Event Log, AppData\Local\Temp\VSLogs, AppData\Local\Xamarin\Logs\17.0, the Output of VS
However, the Output: debug. Did make me tracing the component binding process, also found nothing.

Huge data but no luck:
Assembly binding log
Windows Policy, no luck: Audit Access Deny
I have to say the error logs are well hidden.
After lots of google thing, I came across with this information then problem solved. It is a Permission problem.
And then I dig a little further, here i found:
VS Output:
WindowsAppRuntime, installed at first run, may be update after
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.1_1005.616.1651.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
The list of files that Permissions are different (Not Working vs. Working):

Microsoft.DirectManipulation.dll
Microsoft.Foundation.winmd

Conclution:
The "Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime" will get installed on first run and will not get uninstalled with Visual Studio uninstallation.
The "Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime" may get updated and permission also get changed.
The ACL permission of Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime folder and files in it may change somehow after some time, same version (Did not go this far to see why).
Manipulate the Permission manually does the trick
Simple Rest (SYSTEM access right is required, PsExec):
psexec64 -i -s cmd.exe /k icacls.exe "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.1_1005.616.1651.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\*.*" /reset /t
Minimun Reset (for my case, as soon as this reset done, the hot reload shows up when debug, remember to restart debug):
psexec64 -i -s cmd.exe /k icacls.exe "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.1_1005.616.1651.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Microsoft.Internal.FrameworkUdk.dll" /reset
I have developed an application for MacOS. I am including notarization process as part of its distribution. I have followed all the steps and I have run:
xcrun altool --notarize-app --primary-bundle-id "${APP_BUNDLE_ID}" --username "${APPLE_DEV_ID}" --password "${DEV_APP_SPECIFIC_PASSWORD}" --file "${DMG_PATH}"
Then I check notarization progress using:
xcrun altool --notarization-info "${notarize_uuid}" -u "${APPLE_DEV_ID}" -p "${DEV_APP_SPECIFIC_PASSWORD}
Output of it is:
RequestUUID: =<Request>
Date: 2019-05-26 09:40:34 +0000
Status: success
LogFileURL: <Log file>
Status Code: 0
Status Message: Package Approved =~ success ]]
Then I launch staple command:
xcrun stapler staple -v <dmg file>
It also ends with success:
The staple and validate action worked!
However when I extract the .app file and run:
spctl --assess --verbose ./macos/MyApp.app
./macos/MyApp.app/: accepted
According to the docs I have read it should say something like: “source=Notarized Developer ID”, right?
I am running this on MacOS Mojave 10.14.5
What am I missing??
Could someone help me?
Thanks in advance
In case someone faces the same problem I will post the solution to this:
First of all you must staple .app file not the dmg. This means you must extract the binary and staple it
Also in order to check if application has been notarized, in
`System Preferences - Security and Privacy`
Option Allow apps downloaded from: must have Apple Store and identifier developers option checked
Hope this helps
Both the app and the dmg may be notarized and stapled, seperately, one after the other. Try doing that and the error should go away.
Short answer
It could be due to an RPATH referencing a path outside the App bundle. Removing this RPATH would resolve the issue.
Inspecting log files
You can find extra information about the rejection (after trying to launch the blocked app) in the Console.app. Note that you should open the Console.app, before trying to open your blocked app, otherwise not all messages may be logged. You should look for process XprotectService in the logs of your device (i.e. choose your device in the left side bar of the Console.app). If the RPATH is indeed the problem, you should find a record like this:
XprotectService: [com.apple.xprotect:xprotect] File /path/to/your/executable/or/library failed on rPathCmd /rpath/causing/the/problem (rpath resolved to: (path not found), bundleURL: /path/to/your/bundle.app)
Inspecting these log files may give you a key to solve other issues too.
Note that I received the following information from an Apple engineer:
Gatekeeper does not inform users via UI about the specifics of the
error, though it is in the logs for developers to look at. The
notarization process is purely about a detecting malicious software
and does not replicate Gatekeeper enforcement. You still need to get
software notarized and test with Gatekeeper.
We are looking to provide better tooling for developers in the future
to pre-flight some of these common errors.
Contact Apple
If you are not able to solve your issue with the above information, you may want to contact Apple itself using the Feedback Assistant. They do not respond very quickly (~1-2 weeks), but the answers are rather to the point.
I've recently purchased a BeagleBone Black. I installed the drivers, got myself a SD card and an external card reader,7yip and win32 disk imager just like the Beaglebone startup guide told me to. However, when I put my disk on the micro-sd card and insert that into the Beaglebone, I need to tell it to boot from micro-sd.
For that I need to go to the SSH terminal (putty) and type the following:
sudo nano boot/uEnv.txt
In that I need to remove the # at the start of
#cmdline=init=/opt/scripts/tools/eMMC/init-eMMC-flasher-v3.sh
for it to boot off the SD. The first time I did this, it worked. I was just navigating down to the line of code when putty told me that it has disconnected. The next dozens of times I tried to access uEnv.txt, it was completely empty. I don't know why it crashed, nor have I found out how the hell I get it to work. I have unzipped the original file again and installed a new disk several times now, but it's still empty.
EDIT:
Hmm, I've heard win32 disk seems to be unreliable. I'll attempt to use another program, but I don't think that's the problem. But take this into consideration
I found the answer!
I asked a guy I know who has more knowledge in this area. It turns out all this time I was just creating a NEW uEnv.txt file. For all other people who might be struggling with this; The command to open the uEnv.txt file is
sudo nano ./boot/uEnv.txt
The ./ plays a very important role here. From there you can edit the file as you wish.
I hope this helps!
I get the following error(see. figure) in my Xampp and can not access mySQL through XAMPP and phpMyAdmin. In this link-1 and link-2 possible solution is given; but none of them woks in Mac OS 10.9
I assume the problem is with configuration file my.cnf which is located in the /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/my.cnf.
Any suggestion will be appreciate. Thanks.
Completely stop XAMPP, this means stop apache, ftp and mysql.
Open the program called Terminal.
Type in sudo -i to become root (or do su root if the first doesn’t work for you).
You are most probably asked for a password which you have to enter while no characters are displayed.
Execute chmod 600 /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/my.cnf .
Exit your root shell with exit or just close Terminal.
Restart XAMPP (apache, ftp and mysql).
From: http://slopjong.de/2009/08/31/houston-i-cant-write-to-file/
Solution
Reinstall Xampp. Before reinstalling delete all the files, take away your htdoc and database folder to other place of your hdd.
The database location in Mac OS-10.9 is
cd '/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/'
Htdoc location
cd '/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/'
When you complete reinstallation put all the folders to corresponding location and your database will be automatically update.
I looked some other solution but none of them seems work. I was scare if I remove the database to other location and import later will it work or not. And luckily it works, but as precaution careful when you remove big database.
I'm writing app like System Activity in Mac. I used modified darwin.h and darwin.c from this topic.
But it seems that it shows correct info only for certain fields (and some time ago it showed all correct info but only for current process - this app), for everything else it shows correct only pid, process name, group/owner. Everything else like cpu/mem/disk usage is nulled. I think it may be something with sandbox or security. Tried to move application to /Applications and setting root/wheel 755 but it's not work, still zeroed values.
Here's my output : click
Code changed in darwin.c : click, written after a lot of commented printf lines
Also there is a free apps approved in AppStore like SystemInfo (com.lymbilesoft.systeminfoliteforiphone) that shows detailed info about disk and processes, so how do it work? Tried nm-ing it's binary but did not find something useful.
Can someone please help me with it?
I'm not sure if this is the only problem, but it certainly is possible that your app needs to run as root for this to work correctly.
However, simply installing the app in /Applications, doing chown root.wheel, and chmod 755 will not cause it to run as root. It will still run as user mobile.
In order to get the app to run as root, see this answer
I've used this technique successfully, and if you have a jailbroken phone, you can navigate to /Applications/Cydia.app and see that this launch script is how Cydia does this, too.
I use ps aux from the Terminal/Command Line. That gives me all the stuff I need, regarding your concerns.
