Extract required data with details from SQL data table - sql

I have below data in SQL Database
Path
------------
Mb\Dbi\Abc
Mb\Dbi\Abc\123
Mb\Dbi\Dks
Mb\Dbi\Abc\Hig
Mb\Dbi\Abc\123\Xyz
Mb\Dbi\Abc
Mb\Dbi\Abc\Hig
Mb\Dbi\Abc\123
Mb\Dbi\Hig
Mb\Dbi\Dks\67H
I want to extract the above data in below format, Here "Mb\Dbi" remains constant and need to extract distinct Names after that and also need their exact value path.
Sr. Name Value
1 Abc Mb\Dbi\Abc
2 Abc\123 Mb\Dbi\Abc\123
3 Dks Mb\Dbi\Dks
4 Abc\Hig Mb\Dbi\Abc\Hig
5 Abc\123\Xyz Mb\DbiAbc\123\Xyz
6 Dks\67H Mb\Dbi\Dks\67H
What will be the query/stored procedure /function to accomplish this?
Thanks

You haven't specified what database server you are using.
Either way, you need to search for a replace function.
In SQL Server, the function is replace, you can find the definition here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/es-es/library/ms186862(v=sql.105).aspx
Your query will look like this in SQL Server:
Select replace(subquery.path,'Mb\Dbi','') AS Name, subquery.path as Value from (Select distinct path from {yourtable}) subquery
Regards

If You also want to generate the Serial Number:
SELECT (ROW_NUMBER() OVER ( ORDER BY [Path])) AS [Sr.]
,REPLACE ([Path],'Mb\Dbi','') AS [Name]}
,[Path] AS [Value]}
FROM tbl_PathValues
Or you can have the target table with a column predefined as an Identity column.

Try something like:
SELECT RIGHT(Value, (SELECT LENGTH(Value) - 6))

Try somthing like this,
SELECT RIGHT(DB.Path,SELECT LENGTH(DB.Path) - 6) AS 'Name', DB.Path AS 'Value' FROM DB;

You need to insert your data into Database by escaping '\'. Further following query will solve your problem:
Solution is for MySQL
SELECT #rownum := #rownum + 1 AS 'Sr.',SUBSTRING(path, 8) AS `name`, path AS VALUE FROM test_path, (SELECT #rownum := 0) r;
Hope it helps...

ORACLE TO_CHAR SPECIFY OUTPUT DATA TYPE

I have column with data such as '123456789012'
I want to divide each of each 3 chars from the data with a '/' in between so that the output will be like: "123/456/789/012"
I tried "SELECT TO_CHAR(DATA, '999/999/999/999') FROM TABLE 1" but it does not print out the output as what I wanted. Previously I did "SELECT TO_CHAR(DATA, '$999,999,999,999.99') FROM TABLE 1 and it printed out as "$123,456,789,012.00" so I thought I could do the same for other case as well, but I guess that's not the case.
There is also a case where I also want to put '#' in front of the data so the output will be something like this: #12345678901234. Can I use TO_CHAR for this problem too?
Is these possible? Because when I go through the documentation of oracle about TO_CHAR, it stated a few format that can be use for TO_CHAR function and the format that I want is not listed there.
Thank you in advance. :D
Here is one option with varchar2 datatype:
with test as (
select '123456789012' a from dual
)
select listagg(substr(a,(level-1)*3+1,3),'/') within group (order by rownum) num
from test
connect by level <=length(a)
or
with test as (
select '123456789012.23' a from dual
)
select '$'||listagg(substr((regexp_substr(a,'[0-9]{1,}')),(level-1)*3+1,3),',') within group (order by rownum)||regexp_substr(a,'[.][0-9]{1,}') num
from test
connect by level <=length(a)
output:
1st query
123/456/789/012
2nd query
$123,456,789,012.23
If you wants groups of three then you can use the group separator G, and specify the character to use:
SELECT TO_CHAR(DATA, 'FM999G999G999G999', 'NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS=./') FROM TABLE_1
123/456/789/012
If you want a leading # then you can use the currency indicator L, and again specify the character to use:
SELECT TO_CHAR(DATA, 'FML999999999999', 'NLS_CURRENCY=#') FROM TABLE_1
#123456789012
Or combine both:
SELECT TO_CHAR(DATA, 'FML999G999G999G999', 'NLS_CURRENCY=# NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS=./') FROM TABLE_1
#123/456/789/012
db<>fiddle
The data type is always a string; only the format changes.

How to write a DB2 select query to include the string before the '-' delimiter

I have a column "Department" in my Table "College". Department is having data like
Commerce1-683877
Science2-678900
I need to write a select query which returns only Commerce1 and Science2.
I am completely new to DB2, please help me solve this.
select substring(department,0,CHARINDEX('-',department) as DEPT from College
Edit -1 : Thanks #Charles
I tried your solution :
select substring(department , 1, LOCATE('-',department) - 1) AS DEPT from College
but it's throwing me an error :
SQL Error [42815]: THE DATA TYPE, LENGTH, OR VALUE OF ARGUMENT 3 OF SUBSTRING IS INVALID. SQLCODE=-171, SQLSTATE=42815, DRIVER=4.9.78
Edit 2: You're right #Charles, all my rows doesn't contain '-'
I tried using the below query as well but getting the same error :
select substring(department,1, LOCATE('-',department || '-') - 1) as DEPT from College
What platform and version of Db2?
Did you look for an appropriate Db2 SQL Reference manual?
Note Db2 SQL string & arrays start at 1, not 0.
select substring(department,1, LOCATE('-',department) - 1) as DEPT from College
One method uses regexp_substr():
regexp_substr(department, '^[^-]+')

get sub string in between mix symbols

I want to get sub string my output should look like gmail,outlook,Skype.
my string values are
'abc#gmail.com'
'cde.nitish#yahoo.com'
'xyz.vijay#sarvang.com.com'
somthing like this as you can see its having variable length with mix symbol '.' and '#'
string values store in table form as a column name Mail_ID and Table name is tbl_Data
i am using sql server 2012
i use chart index for getting sub string
select SUBSTRING(Mail_ID, CHARINDEX('#',MAil_ID)+1, (CHARINDEX('.',MAil_ID) - (CHARINDEX('#', Mail_ID)+1)))
from tbl_data
And i want my output like:
'gmail'
'yahoo'
'sarvang'
Please help me i am newbies in sql server
This is my solution. I first get the position of the '#', and then get the position of the '.' in the string prior to it (the '#'). Then I can use those results to get the appropriate substring:
SELECT V.YourString,
SUBSTRING(V.YourString,D.I,A.I - D.I) AS StringPart
FROM (VALUES('abc#gmail.com'),
('cde.nitish#yahoo.com'),
('xyz.vijay#sarvang.com.com'))V(YourString)
CROSS APPLY(VALUES(CHARINDEX('#',V.YourString)))A(I) --Get position of # to not repeat logic
CROSS APPLY(VALUES(CHARINDEX('.',LEFT(V.YourString,A.I))+1))D(I) --Get position of . to not repeat logic
Note for value of 'abc.def.steve#... it would return 'def.steve'; however, we don't have such an example so I don't know what the correct return value would be.
I'm posting this as a new answer, a the OP moved the goal posts from the original answer. My initial answer was based on their original question, not their "new" one, and it seems silly to remove an answer that was correct at the time:
SELECT V.YourString,
SUBSTRING(V.YourString,A.I, D.I - A.I) AS StringPart
FROM (VALUES('abc#gmail.com'),
('cde.nitish#yahoo.com'),
('xyz.vijay#sarvang.com.com'))V(YourString)
CROSS APPLY(VALUES(CHARINDEX('#',V.YourString)+1))A(I)
CROSS APPLY(VALUES(CHARINDEX('.',V.YourString,A.I)))D(I);
This answers the original version of the question.
This may be simplest with a case expression to detect if there is a period before the '#':
select (case when email like '%.%#%'
then stuff(left(email, charindex('#', email) - 1), 1, charindex('.', email), '')
else left(email, charindex('#', email) - 1)
end)
from (values ('abc#gmail.com'), ('cde.nitish#yahoo.com'), ('xyz.vijay#sarvang.com.com')) v(email)
I create a temp table with your data and write below query its worked
CREATE TABLE #T
(
DATA NVARCHAR(50)
)
INSERT INTO #T
VALUES('abc#gmail.com'),
('cde.nitish#yahoo.com'),
('xyz.vijay#sarvang.com.com')
SELECT *,LEFT(RIGHT(DATA,LEN(DATA)-CHARINDEX('#',DATA,1)),CHARINDEX('.',RIGHT(DATA,LEN(DATA)-CHARINDEX('#',DATA,1)),1)-1)
FROM #t
AND its a output of my T-SQL
abc#gmail.com gmail
cde.nitish#yahoo.com yahoo
xyz.vijay#sarvang.com.com sarvang

SQL QUERY to bring last letter in a string to first letter position using SQL Server

I have a column called Supervisor from a table JobData in a SQL Server database. In this Supervisor column the records are of the format below.
DANNYL
ADITYAG
SAMMYS
BOBBYJ
I want to convert these records to lower case and bring the last letter to first letter. For example, DANNYL should be changed to the format ldanny and this format should be applied to all the remaining records.
Can anyone help me out with a SQL query for this?
You can use the following solution using LEFT and RIGHT to get the parts of the name. By using LOWER you can convert the upper case characters to lower case:
SELECT LOWER(RIGHT(Supervisor, 1) + LEFT(Supervisor, LEN(Supervisor) - 1))
FROM JobData
WHERE LTRIM(RTRIM(Supervisor)) <> ''
-- or using ABS on the length - 1 so the WHERE isn't needed.
SELECT LOWER(RIGHT(Supervisor, 1) + LEFT(Supervisor, ABS(LEN(Supervisor) - 1)))
FROM JobData
Since it looks like the column Supervisor contains empty values you can also use the following solution without calculation and not failing on the empty values:
SELECT LOWER(RIGHT(Supervisor, 1) + REVERSE(SUBSTRING(REVERSE(Supervisor), 2, LEN(Supervisor))))
FROM JobData
... and another possibility using STUFF:
SELECT LOWER(LEFT(STUFF(Supervisor, 1, 0, RIGHT(Supervisor, 1)), LEN(Supervisor)))
FROM JobData
demo on dbfiddle.uk
there is probably a better way do to that , but here is my proposition.
SELECT lower(left(right('DANYL',1)+'DANYL',len('DANYL')))
Using SUBSTRING you can get the expected result:
SELECT LOWER(CONCAT(SUBSTRING(Supervisor, LEN(Supervisor), 1), SUBSTRING(Supervisor, 0, LEN(Supervisor))))
FROM JobData
Demo with the given sample data:
DECLARE #JobData TABLE (Supervisor VARCHAR(100));
INSERT INTO #JobData (Supervisor) VALUES
('DANNYL'), ('ADITYAG'), ('SAMMYS'), ('BOBBYJ');
SELECT LOWER(CONCAT(SUBSTRING(Supervisor, LEN(Supervisor), 1), SUBSTRING(Supervisor, 0, LEN(Supervisor)))) AS Supervisor
FROM #JobData
Output:
ldanny
gaditya
ssammy
jbobby
Like this? :
SELECT
LOWER(CONCAT(SUBSTRING([Supervisor], LEN([Supervisor]), 1),SUBSTRING([Supervisor], 1, ABS(LEN([Supervisor])-1))))
FROM TABLE

Searching Technique in SQL (Like,Contain)

I want to compare and select a field from DB using Like keyword or any other technique.
My query is the following:
SELECT * FROM Test WHERE name LIKE '%xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz%';
but my fields only contain 'Ramakrishnan'
My Input string contain some extra character xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz
I want the SQL query for this. Can any one please help me?
You mean you want it the other way round? Like this?
Select * from Test where 'xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz' LIKE '%' + name + '%';
You can use the MySQL functions, LOCATE() precisely like,
SELECT * FROM WHERE LOCATE("Ramakrishnan",input) > 0
Are the xxxxxx and zzzzz bits always 6 and 5 characters? If so, then this is doable with a bit of string cutting.
with Test (id,name) as (
select 1, 'Ramakrishnan'
union
select 2, 'Coxy'
union
select 3, 'xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz'
)
Select * from Test where name like '%'+SUBSTRING('xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz', 8, CHARINDEX('_',SUBSTRING('xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz',8,100))-1)+'%'
Results in:
id name
1 Ramakrishnan
3 xxxxxx_Ramakrishnan_zzzzz
If they are variable lengths, then it will be a horrible construction of SUBSTRING,CHARINDEX, REVERSE and LEN functions.
